Rush in 1980 at the Philly spectrum when a ticket was still under 10 bucks. I had no desire at that time to go into a big city and see a concert, but after that I could not stop going and saw around 30 concerts during the 80s. It was actually free because a friend had another friend back out so I provided the transportation for the ticket. I saw Twisted Sister, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest on the same bill one night for free also by providing the wheels to get there.

Istanbully, L7 and Joan Jett at a club called Elysium in Austin, when I was fifteen. You don't want to know how I got in.

Oh yes we do!

Best Missed Opportunity?  When I finally got a chance to see Pink Floyd I figured they would be best taken in while drunk but I overdid it and don't remember most of the concert.  Damn.  Well, at least it was post-Roger Waters so I don't have to kick myself QUITE as hard.  Wait, I should get someone else to do the kicking, shouldn't I?  Excuse me for a while ...

Mine was back in the early 90s. My best friend not only got me and him excellent tickets to a ZZ Top show, for my birthday, but we were going backstage to meet the band (my bud worked with a muscle car salesman, and met drummer Frank Beard through that, striking up a bit of a friendship).

What a way to spend a Saturday night, huh?

Well, my boss at the time informed me I had to work overtime on my bday.... not just OT, but graveyards. Worked at a plastics extruding plant at the time. I got stuck on a line trying some goofy-ass experimental product combining wood pulp and plastic, fucking smoke pouring out everywhere, burned my arm......

Ok I admit it I was a heavy metal chick. I had the big hair and everything. My first concert was Judas Priest and Dokken, I think it was around 86-87. Can't really remember alot from back then.

Hee hee....... I bet it was a good show, though. Gotta luv you heavy metal girls.

Saw Priest numerous times prior to the more 'commercialized' Turbo tour, still one of My fave bands today. Leather, Whips and that definitive metal scream of Rob Halford's, gotta love it! Saw Dokken one time sans George Lynch, still a rockin show though.

Let's see... first concert would have been RHCP w/ Foo Fighters in '99. Great show, and after a full three dozen more concerts, it still ranks as one of the top four.

I remember that tour.

RHCP do a great show. ( Thanks DAVE!!! )

I see the stage just fine, and if the acoustics suck, you're seeing the wrong bands.

I find that as I've gotten older, I pay extra (usually a lot extra) to be on the floor and as close to the stage for a concert.  Thank God for ebay, stubhub, etc.
There is no comparison to the energy level on the floor.  Well worth the money.

And to answer Level...I've always thought Bruce sucked.  First few albums were ok.  Once Nebraska came out though...ugh.

Since we live in the 54th Market in the US, if you pretty much just get tickets when they go on sale, you're going to get good seats. Past month: 3rd Row, LC Aisle for Doodlebops, 1st Row R Aisle for Gov't Mule, and 1st Row for Electric Hot Tuna.

Wife#1 is pretty aggressive getting tickets. Old habits from when they were really important.

Than that Banjo thing would have killed you.

Don't let anyone else find out or you'll have to surrender your Jersey Plates.

I was about 10...my mother and I went to see Pink Floyd, The Wall tour.  Wow!!!  Even though the experience was more than I could handle at 10, I was hooked on live music.  The first concert I saw without dear old mom was The Scorpions, I was 14 and saw them as well as Van Halen and Duran Duran in the same week.

When I was 16ish my mother took me to an Alice Cooper concert on Halloween. I was scared to death but I remember it to this day.

Ha! You're wrong. I'm 23. It's a strange world we live in.

I was going to guess you're pretty young as I saw that tour myself just a couple of years ago.  At our show Billy Squier played so long as the warmup we only got to see Bad Company do about six songs, literally, which was a shame as they have a number of hits and were sounding quite good.

Wow that sucks.  I'm definitely no fan of quitting a job lightly but that might have been a case for it.  Still, I understand being responsible and probably needing the money.  I'm guessing that boss was no rock fan...

Now you've got me really craving a wild, loud concert.

Yeah, I'd be much happier if Bruce were covering Bob Seeger, instead of Pete.

Actually, he does like rock, and is a decent guy overall, just kinda anal when it came to work lol. And the job was (and still is) the highest paying one I've ever had, so quitting wasn't an option.

He's also a die-hard Redskins fan, so I got back at him a bit later, the year Dallas won their second Super Bowl in a row; I took a chance and bought a hat on the way to work (before the game had started), which had "Back To Back Champs" and Cowboy logos on it. He was spitting and sputtering when he saw it, and called me "arrogant" lol...... I waved it at him later that evening , and said "no, just right!".

Inspiral Carpets around '88. It was wank. Even to a 15 years old wet behind the ears.

Had a much better time at The Happy Mondays around 9 months later. A real eye-opener, never seen so many people completey and utterly blitzed.

And that was just the band...  I've always been jealous of you guys over there and your ability to see all of the bands I loved.

LadyJulieAnn,

The likes of The Smiths, Happy Mondays, Stone Roses, Charlatans etc are dead and buried but they all have tribute bands and they're still good nights even though it's not the real thing - everyone reliving the early 90s, sold out all over the show and everyone knows the music - all makes for a good night. Hey, there must be planes from the US and A to Britain - get your sub to treat you to a trip over when one of your bands are on.

http://www.ticketline.co.uk/date_order.php?e=2419200

The Jam tribute band is on the 16th Dec in Sheffield. That'll be quality, an early christmas present for the good Lady.
