Edit: You know, I think that's my first official concert - but I am pretty sure I saw Madness and The Motels play a small Westwood clothing shop prior to that also. Later I would mainly concentrate on smaller acts playing Hollywood clubs or slightly larger venues like the Greek Theater above Los Feliz. Screamers, Cramps, Nuns, Lydia Lunch, Foetus, Adam Ant, etc...

( I opened the stage gate for performers and checked IDs) I had a great summmer out of high school 1970...met and saw Hendrix one night then Simon and Garfunkle the next. Couple years later saw Zepplin open as a new band for the Who doing Tommy. Pink Floyd's DarkSide of the Moon tour. Yes, Genesis,the Dead, ...needless to say, I love live music and go as often as possible. 


Now that's a hell of a list.

I'm curious as to why you're not a fan of Springsteen, just don't like the music?
 
And did Manilow do "Mandy"? Did he? lol..... oh man, I actually like that song.

The Motels, an underated band; Martha Davis has an incredible voice. Have you ever seen Henry Rollins out there? That's his stomping ground, I think.

an oldies station- guess they are not Old enough yet lol

Status: offline 		Wow, bringing back some great memories here along with quite a few "ew, I wish I had gotten to see that"s.  Led Zeppelin or Three Dog Night in their prime?  Sweet.  Bowie?  No, never quite caught up with him.  I did see the Talking Heads on the "Speaking In Tongues" tour, though (later immortalized in the film "Stop Making Sense".)

My first concert was Styx on their "Paradise Theater" tour.  Now, say what you will about Styx - and I've said a few things myself, especially with the decline that started around "Cornerstone" - but they put on a damn entertaining show, they don't just stand up there in their blue jeans and jam for 90 minutes (though that can be done well too).  And they've been good everytime I've seen them.  And for any Styx fans reading this they put out an album a few years ago called "Brave New World" that I honestly think may be one of their 5 best.  Check it out.

Anyway, like an earlier poster, I've also seen Pat Travers, opening up for "Foghat" in Houston around 79.  Weirdest pairing may have been the Fixx opening for The Moody Blues (da*n sound guy buried the bass on "Just a Singer (In A Rock 'n Roll Band!!) or, no, it was a very LOUD Wall of Voodoo opening for ...the Go-Gos.  Yep, you read that right.  I know, doesn't beat the Monkees (or was it Herman's Hermits) opening for Hendrix but still....

And Foreigner without Lou Gramm is just not right unless the guy also has an unusually great voice. 

Some other great concert moments:

Genesis - best light show I've ever seen, even better than Queen's (at least the tour I saw).  You kept thinking Okay, they've done everything they can with this set of lights and then they'd come up with something different.

Best use of film in a concert - Supertramp - caught onto them too late for what were probably their best tours but still enjoyed the "...famous last words..." and "Brother Where You Bound" tour.

U2 - Zoo TV tour - I know many purists hate that period of U2 but I thought it was pretty brilliant and loved the live show as well.

Okay, I could go on but I've already taken us far enough off track and most of you stopped reading at the word "Styx" anyway.  Hey, we all have our guilty pleasures, right, especially on this site.

By the way, for the Cars fans, there is a new compilation out this year called "The Cars Unlocked" I think with lots of live footage, behind the scenes stuff, interviews, etc. that looks pretty interesting.

Best Missed Opportunity?  When I finally got a chance to see Pink Floyd I figured they would be best taken in while drunk but I overdid it and don't remember most of the concert.  Damn.  Well, at least it was post-Roger Waters so I don't have to kick myself QUITE as hard.  Wait, I should get someone else to do the kicking, shouldn't I?  Excuse me for a while ...

First rock concert was Genesis, 1982, I think, at the Greek Theater in Berkeley.  Awesome, aweseome show.  I remember it like yesterday.

Status: offline 		I saw Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Ten Years After, literally anyone who was anyone back in the ealy seventies and all in their prime.  The local city hall had concerts on regularly on Tuesday's, Thursday's and Saturdays and they were cheap.My friend's sister saw Jimi Hendrix there supporting a group called the Tremeloes in '68 (I believe). Now you have to pay a fortune for the privilege of seeing a big name in an arena where you can hardly see the stage and the acoustics are rubbish.

Status: offline 		Was 1983 I think. I was at this huge C&W bar in Fort Worth, TX. They sometimes had Rock Bands however, and I'd long been aware of the bands music, but never heard them live. They had numerous radio hits, and I wouldn't change the radio station if one came on, but hadnt really bought much of their music if any. So they came out, and I thought "Ah jeez, another 3 piece band."...since all the other one's I'd heard suffered somewhat outside the studio...like ZZ, Rush etc...
Cut to the chase -- BLEW ME COMPLETELY AWAY. Never seen a guitar player with such energy, fervor and power--before or since, and I've seen em all-- Who, Zep, Floyd, ZZ CSNY, Frampton, Trower,...long ass list. But this guy...had all the cowboys there ready to go home to their old lady's and smoke dope...they were all just standing around open-mouthed....everybody was.
