But really, do you honestly believe "our guys" are over there for a reason that has anything at all to do with his crimes against humanity?

Interesting question.  That Saddam was a genuinely vicious and brutal dictator had to make the decision easier.  Was that the reason?  No.

I think Bush was looking for a reason before he ever took the oath.  I think the Left played their hand as badly as the Right and suspect one reason we didn't have the troops we needed to begin with was an attempt to appease the critics.  I did not want my brother to cross that border.

I would very much like to see the end of this political blame game until after we find a way to get that place functional and get the hell out.

Sad to say but hold on to your butts in the US  We are now  more of open targets then ever before.  YES he was a evil person but he had control of the country and was on our side during the Iran war. Sure he murderd a lot of innoent people, but look at any war and the innocents that are killed. We could have gone in and use presission bombs and not lost any military very likely. Now the civil fighting and we cant control that in anyway so now we walk out  with nothing  more than we started a country in a mess.

I am against the death penelty for reasons that I have stated in other threads.  Still, I don't shed any tears when they stick a needle in the arm of some sicko who rapes and kills a little girl and I won't shed any tears for this sicko either.  As for whatever punishment or chance at redemption he may have in the after life... I'll leave that to God.

I think invasion of Iraq was inevitable no matter if Bush was elected or not. Before Bush got on the invade Iraq bandwagon, the Democrats were calling for an invasion. You can look up dozens of quotes by Democrat Senators as far back as 1996 calling for an invasion. Funny these same senators now claim attacking Iraq was a mistake.

On the flip-side, it was the Republicans who claimed Clinton was "wagging the dog" when he bombed Baghdad in 1998. They also were against Clinton's secret op missions in Pakistan to try to kill Osama Bin Ladin. And the GOP was also against the Kosovo war to oust Milosevic.

It seems that the party not occupying the White House is the anti-war party. In reality both parties favor war. That's why I am trying to warn people not to be surprised if the Democrats take over the White House in 2008....that wars are not going to stop. Both parties are playing the anti-war voters for fools. Right now, the front runners of both parties for the 2008 election favor the war in Iraq. Hillary and McCain both favor the war. All the anti-war candidates are trailing in the polls by wide margins.

Two arab news networks have reported the Saddam Hussein was executed shortly before 6am Baghdad time (10pm EST).

This is probably one of those times, 20 years from now that we'll look back at and say "thus and such occurred right here...tonight..."

Saddam was a bad guy (my prose isn't going to help ascertain cognitive thinking), no argument.

(Can't argue that at all).

We're in some tweaked times. I'm old enough to know, this ain't as weird as it gets.

(I think that about says it all).

In his case he will get the virgins, but there is a catch

They are all 6' 6" tall gay men with a dictator fetish.

He's going to be walking funny for awhile, and shitting more cream than brown.

I'm a little surprised that they executed him.  What's the point?  They kept Rudolf Hess for years in Spandau.  That kind of situation makes more sense to me.  It's hard to take the moral high ground when you're executing your prisoners too.

He's not really dead. That was his look alike. The real Saddam is now 100 miles below dining with Hitler ready to strike with his WMD's. The hanging was not telivised. It's all hear say from the Iraq and Middle Eastern News who gave our reporters the news. Can anyone else see the conspericy here?

So what has been gained? Absolutely nothing!

I've got to agree with what L&M appears to be saying. The government is ceding the moral high ground.

Just a thought but when do we lynch Bush and Blair for being responsible for the deaths of 600,000 Iraqis due to their illegal war?

grow up and see how the world works! Mao killed 70 million people and people like you sit there fiddling with your thumbs discussing whether a war is legal or not. Jesus!

Had  Saddam been the president of Lichtenstein he wouldn't have lasted a year. You reckon the free world would let people like that threaten our way of life?  Even Reagan would have taken him it out long before there would be talk about a trial

But go back to your support of these criminals. they're nothing more than bullies. and the day you're at the receiving end, luckily for you there are intelligent people on your side.

but go to page 4513 on legal war book....some interesting paragrapha there....

ha ha....illegal war?????? where do you ler get it all from?

There are some things I believe - there are some things I don't believe - some I don't understand and some I have no opinion on what so ever, but....
The US starting a war- thousands dieing just for the Oil- gimmie a break

As for the topic- I don't think he should of been hanged- I think he should of lived out the remainder of his life locked up suffering and misrable

While I am not against the death penalty in principle, and I cant think of a reason why Saddam should not have been executed, it still makes me feel uneasy when I hear of it.

Under no circumstances could I execute anybody.

With regard to Hess, at least as explained in public, it was the Russians who wouldn't release him.
I wonder though.

ok, so this is my first post and i am glad that it is to say something about this Saddam execution.  James said that would he be a martyr......that is the worst thing that could happen!  The killing will continue to go on and the civil war will become worse if Saddam does become a martyr....for all of us that were against what he did there are just as many Iraqi's that were not.  I was hoping that they would not execute him, but make him sit in a cell all by himself in solitary for the rest of his life; maybe at some point he would have felt remorse for his wrong doing.  It really is ashame that public torture is not legal.  I would have liked to see him tortured by all of the Iraqis that were held prisoner by his ways through all the years of his dictatorship.....stoned to death etc, etc.  Probably would have been a great thing to see.  I am definitely against violence and war to some degree, but he would have deserved whatever he got for all the innocent people, Iraqi and American that he killed during his time.

Always remember...there is a war going on in Iraq now and there are innocent American men and women being killed, however we forget that millions of innocent American men and women have also died in past wars and they are the reason that we have our freedom!!!  Remember not only the families of recent victims of our current war, but think of all the families that suffered in the past wars.

I am not against the death penalty in anyway.  Think about it......if someone is on death row they did not just rob a bank.  Maybe they raped and killed a small child or an adult (that is just as bad), or broke into someones house robbed them and killed them.  If they are on death row then they probably did some pretty serious shit and they probably deserve to be there!!!

Why isn't the US taking out all the other tyrants?

They have no oil is my guess.

Yeah, the US really believes in the rule of law. Give me a break.

You don't seriously believe that there are thousands dying for freedom do you? LOL!!!!

I think it was thompson or sinergy put forward a good proposition as to why the war was started for oil.

In fact just read The Project For The New American Century.
