Once you get to know a few football players, you get a better understanding of exactly how large, and especially fast, these guys are. Television washes it out so much ... but when you attend a game and sit very close, you start to realize that without serious pads, there would be something like five deaths per game. I think the other issue, is that you probably get mostly our professional football ... and I have to tell you, it bores the fuck out of me too. College football is vastly more exciting.

We don't really get any of your games over here (professional or not) - we get plenty of your films and music but your sports are just not understood here so no one wants to watch them - cultural difference. The Germans are top car manufactures, the Americans could sell anything to anyone (advertising is where they're streets ahead) and the British have invented just about every game/sport of any importance (even the US versions are British in origin). Just one of those things, competitive advantage of nations etc. I've never seen much gridiron so I'll take your word for the exciting bit.......what's going on with the stockings?

American football will never catch on, they tried it in the 90s in Europe but there are too many stops in the game. What do you do on a wet and windy London afternoon while the teams discuss tactics for half an hour during a game. It just didn't work. I went to see a game in Barcelona and it even didn't go well in their climate and I had someone explaining (trying) the rules. The game just didn't flow for me, not compared to watching a free flowing soccer game. I accept we were not seeing the game at its best but I couldn't see how the game could be improved unless they stopped letting them discuss tactics every five minutes and actually played the game. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_League_of_American_Football Thinking about it, I think the organisers missed a crucial cultural point. Supporting a team is not about being entertained or success, it is tribal and you just can't import that.

The one US sport that does stoke up a bit of interest here is basketball. I don't know anyone who has an interest in gridiron or baseball but I do know a few people who watch US basketball and there are a few courts here in sports grounds. Thinking about it, the reason is quite probably that basketball seems to be a game that flows and is end to end like football - hence the attraction here.

Erm i always enjoyed putting theory into practice. I can be impractical when wearing the tightest corset i possibly can - after all inability to breathe properly surely is impractical. Common sense i have in abundance and a follower definately not. I think you do fit 3,4 and 5 from what i know of you. Your ideas on how the world should be in this day and age are not practical. You may be learned and scholarly but i think your opinions and hatreds are not practical, realistic or directly useful. The only response I can make to that Missturbation is to say that I definatley dont hate anyone. I think it a truism to say that only those who love or who seek and fail to find love are capable of hate. I'm more a fearful type myself. I think that shows in my attitudes but I am also a pragmatist and in my opinion much damage has been done to the UK by mindless idealism, which you interpret as an outlook inappropriate for todays world. Just to add it seems clear to me that the pendulum is just starting to swing back a bit with regard to permissiveness, muticulturalism etc. We shall see. Its all too late tho'

Ok maybe hate was too strong a word - my apologies. You certainly dislike gays, appear to dislike ethnic people. For example you made a statement about gays having the same rights as a married couple when siblings who live together do not. You have a fair point but not just because gays have been given the right. Surely before gays were given that right the law was still unfair to siblings. You came across as it only becoming an issue for you because a sector of the community you openly dislike has been given the rights. I do not know much about you but i see you making very sweeping statements about subjects. For example your comment about benefits been too high, granted you retracted it but still you said it. I dont know your financial details and do not wish to know but i would bet you have not had to try to make ends meet on benefits. You appear to have a real issue with Northern gent for some reason. From what i see it is because he thinks differently to you, has different opinions. I read a thread you have written and u have had an instant dig at NG in it for no reason other than he disagrees with you from time to time. Let those who can watch and see if it changes any opinions. If the programme is as revealing as the trailer indicates then I suspect NG might choke on his Black Pudding. I expect he will blame the Monarchy lol I personally found this a little childish and not at all the actions of someone who claims to be intelligent. It is presumptious is it not to make a judgement before the fact. much damage has been done to the UK by mindless idealism, which you interpret as an outlook inappropriate for todays world. I do think its inappropriate but you agree from this statement so whats the problem?
