ORIGINAL: dawntreader i am a hospice volunteer and right now taking care of the needs of the dying and their families is about all i am capable of in regards to making a difference in the community... Hey, DawnTreader. =) I love that. =) Giving compassion and dignity to the dying is extremely valuable. Don't underestimate it. Hospice work is considered in the social work fields to be one of the most difficult. I don't give nearly as much time and money as I used to, unfortunately. We do have enough extra that gets listed as "charity" funds, and it almost always goes to animal welfare. This summer, though, I was thinking of volunteering at the local Angels For Animals. One of the most rewarding volunteer jobs I took was working for the Rescue Mission. We took the kids on picnics and organized parties for them, etc. It was a fun time. =) I do try and stay local when it comes to charity work or donating. We live in an extremely economically depressed area so there's no short of work to be done. Cheers, Stella
