Got my blood work results today - 3/12/2007 7:15:45 PM

Status: offline 		Okay, as some of you know, I was diagnosed with diabetes last December. I was in horrible shape, internally as well as externally, lol. Well, I began the Atkins diet, asked the man upstairs to help me, and pulled my head out of my hindquarters, and began fighting to get my health back. Almost every single test from my labs was signifigantly (sp?) improved. I also had an EKG, and the circulation checked in my legs today, and will have a nuclear stress test done next Monday, as well as getting an ultra-sound done on my carotid arteries. Those results will be in soon, I imagine. Prayers are always appreciated, as are positive thoughts, and the crossing of fingers and toes.

I have recovered from an illness in my life that if I had listened to friends, family, doctors, etc., I would be much further in the hole than I am today.

I wish you all the best, Level, but I want to point out that stubbornness and unwillingness to listen to anybody else's opinion without independant verification from outside sources are wonderful personality attributes in these sorts of situations.

I would suggest you try to keep in mind that what you personally think is far more important than what anybody tells you.

If there is anything that strumpet or I can do, please do not hesitate to ask.

Status: offline 		Level it sounds like you are getting a good grip on what you have to do. Big life changes are hard, but this will be one that gives wonderful benefits to you.

Good luck on the pending tests but they already sound better than before.

Status: offline 		Glad things are looking up for you Level.  When you get tired of following Atkins you might want to look at the South Beach plan.  There are several diabetics on my SB message board who have been able to reduce or eliminate their meds by eating this way for life.  Following SB keeps your blood sugar levels throughout the day.  I've been following it for over 3 yrs now and all my blood chemistry numbers are excellent.

Status: offline 		Sinergy and julia, thank you both.  As for the stubborness mentioned, it's coming in handy, Sinergy. The doc put me on a cholestrol reducing statin in January, and now I have pain in both arms, which I absolutely did not have previously. (I took myself off the med after about 4 weeks). And despite excellent results on my cholesterol readings just from diet, the only thing out of his mouth was "I want to put you on another statin". Uh, nope, doc.

Status: offline 		Keeping you in my thoughts and wishing you continued improvement in your health.  This world is a better place with you in it, so keep doing the fine job you're doing to keep you healthy.  In spite of many nay sayers, the Atkins plan has done wonders for many.  As long as it's working for you, might as well keep doing what suits your body. 

So happy for you, kind soul. .
