Level,

Keep Going!  Do your research and trust yourself first.

Doctors are high priced hired help.  Their job is to recommend
and explain the reasons why.  You task, your responsibility, and
ultimately your life is in your hands.

Believe me you care about the results much more than they do!
I am pretty good at research on the net, if you need me to spend
some time doing any digging, just let me know.

Outlier

Good Luck!  I too found out last week after getting a physical for my new job that the sugar levels in my blood are now classified as type 2 diabetes.  So, looks like it's back on atkins.....and medication.  I can only hope that I keep the same positive attitude as yours is!

Take care, keeps us posted on yo ur successes!

Okay, as some of you know, I was diagnosed with diabetes last December.

If you ever need to be injected with insulin, you know who to call.

Himself (and by extension, I, too) has been dealing with diabetes for about 6 years now, so if you need an ear or a shoulder, I have two of each. ~hugs~

Keeping you in my thoughts and wishing you continued improvement in your health.  This world is a better place with you in it, so keep doing the fine job you're doing to keep you healthy.  In spite of many nay sayers, the Atkins plan has done wonders for many.  As long as it's working for you, might as well keep doing what suits your body.

So happy for you, kind soul. .

Rosa..

Thank you, Rosa, so much *hugs*

Hey there, Outlier. What you said about the docs is dead on. I know most of them mean well, and care, but they don't stay up all night thinking of us lol.

I've had my nose buried in books and the net since finding out about this, and your offer of help means a lot to me, friend.

The doc put me on a cholestrol reducing statin in January, and now I have pain in both arms, which I absolutely did not have previously.

I seem to reall that Termyn8or warned against statins.

Thank you, m.  As others have said, diabetes can be controlled. Do not give up. As for the medication, I would be wary of certain pills, such as Starlix, they can burn out your pancreas. Good ones that help protect the organ are glucophage and Actos, and I'm on Januvia. A book I would strongly urge you to read is Diabetes Solution, by Dr. Richard Bernstein. He was diagnosed as a Type 1 in his youth, and has dedicated his life to fighting the complications of the disease, and has done fantastically. Very upbeat.

If you have any questions about the diabetes, let me know, I'd be happy to try to help.

I am glad that you had good news with your test results so far and will send good thoughts your way for the other results to also show an improvement.  Determination and a willingness to change can often be a huge factor in improving our health and you are showing this to be true. I wish you continued improved health.

Hi mons . I thank you so much for your wonderful post; a lot of wisdom in it! I do have a meter, and use it at least twice a day. Not on insulin here, I've worked down from 4 pills a day to 1, and am determined to get off the meds totally. It runs in my family as well; my dad suffered from it, and I have a nephew that's Type 1.

It's hard to deal with, but it can be done.

Again, thank you, good lady *hugs*

I bet he did, Rule, and rightly so. I know they knock cholesterol down, but there are serious side effects......muscle damage, memory loss, and liver damage. And do they save lives? Some say no, or at least not a lot. Here's a link to an article on them.

Obviously, I'm not a doctor, but I'm not stupid, either. If you're on statins, do your research. Have your liver checked frequently.
