How can you tell the difference between a terrorist doing evil and an old hippy fucking around with some kind of a Godzilla bong or something. Is it okay with you to just kill 'em all?

Ultimatley, I really don't think our government is interested in spying on people unless they're terrorists or criminals.
Trust me, there's enough bad people out there to keep them in business for a long time.
And as for that #1 and # 2 stuff about "am I under arrest" "lawyer" stuff I'd just tell them to go fuck themselves instead and hope they arrested me!
THEN you get a lawyer$.

If I had to choose between what we have now and farglebargle's anarchy, that's an easy choice. Give me the Constitution and President Bush. Farglebargle's version of paradise sounds too much like Somalia or some damn thing like that. The Sudan. Angry mobs running around killing anyone they don't like the looks of might not be too much fun in the long run.

To the original question about cell phones:  No.  When it is off, there is no override to secretely turn it back on and magically listen in.  When they are off, they are off.   Afterall, the manufacturers want you to have long battery life, if it could transmit all the time, what would happen to the battery?

FBI Taps Cell Phone Mic to Eavesdrop

FBI taps cell phone mic as eavesdropping tool. The Declan McCullagh article at C|Net discusses a new technique which allows remotely activating any cell phone microphone to eavesdrop on any conversation within range of that phone. An opinion by District Judge Lewis Kaplan calls the technique a "roving bug" and it works whether the phone is turned on or off.

um ok if you say so??????

Frankly I think we (that is Real Americans) with Red, White, and Blue in our veins, have more to worry about than FEMA (all caps there folks) taking over the local police departments and whether Uncle Sam can listen to mom talk about her period on her cell phone.  And by the way (I hate BTW), I've also done work for FEMA in Mass.  Interesting people...  Lots of cool toys in underground bunkers.   You know things like portable drinking water in big trailers.  Tents that can hold 30 soldiers (or maybe even flood victims).  Radios.  Blankets.   Canned food.  Oh yeah, big guns, too.  Hope your sorry ass never needs them... maybe they've been monitoring Collarme.com, too.

Gak!

nah i have my own thanks.

well thats what they did in katrina regardless of how you wold like to spin it.   Sonds like what i woudl expect any army encmpment to have for supplies. i bet they are for me alright.

and what exactly is the definition of "terrorist"?   according to ashcroft its anyone who proclaims they have rights!!  rights are phantoms now!

If you know then you are the only one in the contry who does.  and as far as criminals go do they have a different constitution than we do? Like we try and convict them before tapping to prove they did it?

It would be your trial, your jury to convince that "He Needed Killing". If 12 of your peers thought the shooting was rightous than so it is.

Maybe your allegience is better directed not at the Federal Government, but your own State?

Anarchy? Is that what you call "PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY"?

Because when The Citizens are PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE for their own security and safety, the form WELL REGULATED MILITIAS, under their own command.

If New Orleans had "A Well Regulated Militia", they would have been able to respond locally, effectively, to the crisis they experienced.

And I ain't talking about the "National Guard", they're just more of The President's Bitches, despite what the recruiting ads say. You need people loyal to AT MOST, their state, PREFERABLY, their County.

But living in Albany, NY, whose CITY Charter predates the Declaration of Independence, NYS Constitution, and Federal Constitution by more than a century give you the perspective to understand that the Feds aren't the answer to ANY question.

Actually....Who cares. Anything that has to do with soundwaves can be listened to. For that fact, anything that has to do with communication can be observed. Not just from the government; but crowds of lonely morons; with no lives.
Where do you think viruses for PC's come from????

yes and that is it exactly!  Each state is supposed to have their own militia and of course the feds are right their with their hands out with offerings of help (with strings attached of course usually in the form of reduced liberties), so as a matter of "CONVENIENCE" everyone jumps on board and now of course the only thing left is to depend on the feds and we can see what a wonderful job they are doing...   we are happy arent we?>  LOL   agreed FB

actually as far as i am concerned the setup should extend to the county level.  each sovereign and with its own constitution as well and distribute power oeven wider as i said in another post to fhky, thereby making it even more difficult to take over this gov.  if not nearly impossible.

Power is being consolidated for the sake of alal things convenience and we can all see that what the forefathers saud is very tru and consolidation of power is evel and it does not matter which party is in office they will all use it accordingly...  So we lose our liberties for convenience sake of all things.  ie: fucking laziness!

Meh. I figure anything commonplace ( Blowfish, DES3, AES, etc... ) they've already got realtime decrypters for.

I blame the 17th Amendment. Senators should serve at the Pleasure of The State.

We're right back where we started then - needing a government to protect us from people who can't tell old hippies from terrorists. It looks like maybe this farglebargletopia thing needs a little more thought put into it...

In farglebargleworld, you'd have to be sure and spy on that damn "terrorist doing evil" for a while before you shoot him if you didn't want to get your ass in a bind... you see where this is going?

We don't need no fucking FEDERAL Government, that's for sure. Waste of money. New York has an Agriculture and Markets department which blows the FDA out of the water, so why bother paying for the FDA? It ain't permitted by the Constitution, and no-one cared enough to Amend the Constitution to delegate the authority.

Substitute in ANY FEDERAL DEPARTMENT you want to, and the formula holds.

Department of Education? Yup.

I'll sorta allow Defense and State. Interior? The Department of the INTERIOR? WTF? The "INTERIOR" is called a State.

Talk about wasting money.

Quit trying to change the subject. You agree we need government, now you're just haggling over its size - which reminds me of a joke.

A fat old ugly wealthy man asks a waitress if she'll fuck him for million dollars, and she says "SURE!!!". Then he says, "How about twenty bucks?" And she said, "What do you think I am, some kind of a whore???" He says, "We've already established that, now we're just haggling over the price."
