What planet is Sen. James Inhofe, R-Oklahoma, who calls global warming the biggest hoax ever perpetuated on Americans on?

Doesn't he see what is happening all around him?

As Al Gore stated the only other statement that is as strong is that of the theroy of gravity.

Everyone one knows that "Friends Don't Let Friends Torture Republicans" Ross

Maybe he's from the same planet as Dr. Claude Allegre. He's a member of both the French and US Academy of Science. He isn't alone, but he is rare in that he was one of the initiators of the global warming THEORY.

quote:

In the 1980s and early 1990s, when concern about global warming was in its infancy, little was known about the mechanics of how it could occur, or the consequences that could befall us. Since then, governments throughout the western world and bodies such as the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change have commissioned billions of dollars worth of research by thousands of scientists. With a wealth of data now in, Dr. Allegre has recanted his views. To his surprise, the many climate models and studies failed dismally in establishing a man-made cause of catastrophic global warming. Meanwhile, increasing evidence indicates that most of the warming comes of natural phenomena. Dr. Allegre now sees global warming as over-hyped and an environmental concern of second rank. Source: http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/news/story.html?id=2f4cc62e-5b0d-4b59-8705-fc28f14da388

Unlike gravity global warming IS a theory.

People see what they want to see and rationalize absolutes on both sides. If they can prove in their model that global warming and cooling isn't cyclical by explaining how Greenland was once free of ice and GREEN, how northern England was once a better wine growing region than Italy, and all the other fluctuations in temperature occurred in relatively recent history, without modern human intervention - I'll accept this theory as better prediction of fact.

Until then I see it for what it is. A source of income and industry for those on the front lines supported by head bobbers who only read and belief people and positions that support their positions.

By the way - should there be an uproar over Ex Vice President Gore's testimony stating that that the theory of global warming is unanimous among all science and scientists? Is that a "lie" or the use of "literary license"? Was he testifying as a documentary film maker or a ex government official? He couldn't be testifying as an "expert" since he has no degree in global weather prediction, or even an advocate since he personally consumes and contributes 10 times the annual energy and carbon emissions than us mere mortal citizens of the US.

Merc, I watched part of Reverand Al's "testimony" before that commission.
After watching him I wanted to take a shower!

Keep in mind that Al Gore was right about the internet. Without his sponsorship of the work of Vint and Bob, we wouldn't be here.

I trust in the spirit of the testimony you used solar heated water, and bio-friendly soap; and afterward you collected the used water for your corn crop which you plan on making ethanol. Al of course just used the shower in his private jet.

Wasn't it yesterday that I read that Europe was going to freeze to death because Antartica was thawing and it was messing up the ocean currents?

oh, yeah.

Except it was suppose to be because the Greenland ice sheet was fast disappearing:

Greenland’s Glaciers Take a Breather, NYT, February 8, 2007

Greenland isn’t melting as fast as we feared.

It was big news when the rate of melting suddenly doubled in 2004 as ice sheets began moving more quickly into the sea. That inspired predictions of the imminent demise of Greenland’s ice — and a catastrophic rise in sea level. But a paper published online this afternoon by Science reports that two of the largest glaciers have suddenly slowed, bringing the rate of melting last year down to near the previous rate. At one glacier, Kangerdlugssuaq, “average thinning over the glacier during the summer of 2006 declined to near zero, with some apparent thickening in areas on the main trunk.”

Ya gotta love Inhofe:

GORE REFUSES TO TAKE PERSONAL ENERGY ETHICS PLEDGE

WASHINGTON, DC – Former Vice President Al Gore refused to take a “Personal Energy Ethics Pledge” today to consume no more energy than the average American household.  The pledge was presented to Gore by Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Ranking Member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, during today’s global warming hearing.

Senator Inhofe showed Gore a film frame from “An Inconvenient Truth” where it asks viewers: “Are you ready to change the way you live?”
...

“There are hundreds of thousands of people who adore you and would follow your example by reducing their energy usage if you did.  Don’t give us the run-around on carbon offsets or the gimmicks the wealthy do,” Senator Inhofe told Gore.

“Are you willing to make a commitment here today by taking this pledge to consume no more energy for use in your residence than the average American household by one year from today?” Senator Inhofe asked.

...

Gore refused to take the pledge.

FirmKY

Simplistic and pathetic politicking to the gallery and completely irrelevent. What one individual does is neither here nor there while the legislators won't do anything about energy generation, industrial energy consumption and energy efficient transport.

I agree with you, meatcleaver... I also do not understand the mentality that you have to be purer than Christ to advocate for something.

Also, why would he agree to that when he uses renewable energy sources and no matter how large his house hold, he is not leaving nearly the same impact as the 'average' household.  Also, his offices and that of his wife's are both run out of his Tennessee home, so it would not really make much sense to apply those standards to it.

Just as an aside... isn't this the same Senator who brought up a blown up picture of his family on the Senate floor and gloated over being able to pronounce his bloodline as pure.. free of any divorces or homosexuals?

No need to be "purer than Christ". Simply apply the same standards to apply the well deserved label of "Hypocrite" as we do when "fundamentalist preachers" are discovered in a drug stupor with a hooker.

Why should the "advocate" for a side we support need rationalization to excuse his behavior contrary to his advocacy? "Offsets" wouldn't be necessary, and the bottom line would move to the side of positive instead of neutral if his & her offices were in a "green building" and his home didn't require so much energy to maintain.

I believe VP Gore is not advocating neutrality regarding current consumption. I believe he states quite clearly that without a reduction and change in consumption "we are doomed!" Wouldn't his "neutrality" be contributing to that doom?

Nice way to slur someone's character, when you disagree with their position. And without any type of proof.

You want to provide a cite or withdraw your calumny?

I just do not see him as a hypocrite, sorry.  He uses renewable energy where he can, and lives a far better lifestyle than I do, in terms of conservation.  He has never asked that every person sacrafice their entire lifestyle to meet some sort of standard, he just asks that everyone try to do something.  Seems like a no brainer to me.

stef,
You forgot a word in your sentence - "convoluted".

He makes no POSITIVE contribution, okay neither will I and everyone else. What's the result? He doesn't say people need to sacrifice their entire lifestyle? He's advocating altering the world lifestyle - except for him. He's the poster boy for the "green movement" and unlimited consumption at the same time.

His job is just advocating with no personally positive impact. Your right that is "logic" convoluted at minimum, rationalization and/or hypocrisy defined.

Seems he likes to be the public poster child of the run on sentence.

Yes, a transcript would be something I consider a "source".

Not a shadow (nor stalker) at all.  Calling me these names are just attempts on your part to use your femininity as a weapon against me, in a obvious attempt to gain sympathy for your arguments, because you have a difficult time handling criticism.
