I'm even fine with charging anyone who is a Pro for using the site a small ($5) fee to cover their bandwidth. They are making money from the site (or attempting to) and should be putting back into it. The problem with that is all the people who would then pretend to be lifestyle and post ads, then ambush the poor applicants. We have enough of that problem now with people who don't want to be thought of as "Pro" and still want tribute.

I've no clue how body type as opposed to numeric weight would solve anything unless someone is ONLY searching for a certain body type..

This topic of free versus pay has, obviously, come up before and I've suggested just such a scenario where Pro's pay for use of the site since they are, at least in plan, using it to obtain paying clients.  Of course, being a sub male, as soon as I suggested this I was immediately slammed by (I think) what seemed like every female on this site and one moderator (who shall remain unnamed) who apparently disagreed and forgot how to be a moderator (I'm still waiting for a reappearance based on the the above post but it doesn't look likely).

It's a sound idea (and a fair one) that just may stave off that inevitible day (in my opinion) that CollarMe WILL charge.   The concern raised about a Pro posing as lifestyle is legitimate but might be solved with the same type of reporting feature found in the forums.  In fact, the situation described above of an "ambush" is actually happening now with some Pro 'disguising' under a lifestyle profile.  Charging with some type of reporting feature might help that situation while providing the site with income.

I think it's a good idea and something worth looking into.

GeekyGirl -> RE: Make this a paid site! (2/6/2007 4:00:55 PM)

I am quite capable of paying for a site like this if wanted to. For me, it's the principle of the thing. There should be a free place for people to network. Period.

Sure I could easily afford $15 a month for a membership fee...but I'd rather put that money into buying a DVD or a CD or something. I'm not going to pay money to just recieve hundreds of emails from desperate horny 18yrs olds.

mnottertail -> RE: Make this a paid site! (2/6/2007 4:13:11 PM)

How are the poor fartsniffers going to afford ProDommes if this site charges?

It's easy to have such lofty principles when someone else is footing the bill.

TANSTAAFL, baby.

GeekyGirl -> RE: Make this a paid site! (2/6/2007 4:59:34 PM)

Stef, I'm not sure what you're getting at....I'm just saying that everyone, regardless of finances, should be able to network for free.

Yes, I personally could afford to pay. But others couldn't, and I don't think that makes them any less worthy of being here.

Also, what does that phrase mean " TANSTAAFL."

stef -> RE: Make this a paid site! (2/6/2007 5:06:36 PM)

Being "worthy" has nothing to do with it.  Do you think the site owners have some duty to burn large amounts of money every month just so the poor perverts have a website to visit?

Google it.

GeekyGirl -> RE: Make this a paid site! (2/6/2007 5:11:07 PM)

I think the owners obviously WANTED to invest their money into this endeavor or they wouldn't have done it. No one is making them keep the site up. They are doing it because they want to. Are you of the opinion that is SHOULD be a pay site? Personally, I disagree. If it was a straight personals site, like match.com, I could understand it. But this is more of a general community, get to know each other, networking kind of place and I think that should be free.

That's neither here nor there.  I'm not questioning their reasons, I'm questioning your statement.  If you feel that such a site should be free for the users,  you must also feel that it's someone's duty to make it all happen for those users because it sure doesn't pay for itself.  Right?

quote:

Are you of the opinion that is SHOULD be a pay site?

I'm of the opinion that the site owners should do what they want with the site.  If they decide to charge, I'll probably pay.  I harbor no sense of entitlement that makes me feel like they, or anyone else, owe me a free site.

Which brings us right back to square one.  Why do you think anyone is entitled to a free site?

GeekyGirl -> RE: Make this a paid site! (2/6/2007 5:40:59 PM)

You're entitled to your opinion and I to mine...I have already stated my reasons.

We aren't ENTITLED to a free site, but given the choice between one that is free and one that isn't, I will go for the free one. I feel that making this a paid site would cause a lot of people like me to leave, just because we aren't willing to spend our money on it.

I'm sure you'll get over it.

Aileen68 -> RE: Make this a paid site! (2/6/2007 5:47:48 PM)

I think that's the first rational thing I've ever heard you say.

Please, make CollarMe a paid site!

Now before you shoot me, please consider why:

First, it would enable them to make some important modifications. We really need better search options here. For example, I'd add the following options when searching for profiles:

- What do you seek? a) Women, b) men, c) both (This ensures that, for ex., bisexuals who only seek women, don't get mail from men.)

- Body type, as opposed to putting a numeric weight

- Are you here to meet someone for: a) Lifestyle relationship, b) professional clients, or c) just chat?

I think we all agree that these are important issues, which might be addressed if they can pay a web designer and maybe even moderator.

These search options will better ensure that a Dominant women who, for example, wants only to chat, doesn't get mail from a man who wants a lifetime relationship, since these issues seem to be a source of such heartburn for so many people, reading their profiles.

Also: let's face it, having to make a small payment gets rid of (most) trolls. It ensures that serious, committed people sign up. And it also keeps the cheap pro's from using this site as a free ad.

On paid sites, like Alt, I don't see the anger and bitterness in Dominant womens' profiles, as I see here. The reason? Alt is a paid site; therefore, the "unwashed masses" can't slam someone with endless mail (which is what seems to cause all the anger in their profiles and journals).

And besides, I won't have as much of a nagging feeling that the person claiming to be 24 is really 16...

What does everyone think?

While I'm sure I wasn't the first to suggest it, I was one of the originally more vocal.

Months later (surely due to others invection as well as the owners own assumptions), there was a link to offer your financial input.

My credit cards are handled by my staff, and I didn't feel comfortable putting same on my charges.

I asked several times if we could have an address to send money to, but it was never broached.

I'd love to have a private address to send money to.  I've found this forum more appealing as a basic forum as well as one where I can find like minded people, unlike any other forum (and one, unlike so many others, that is honest and forthright in its dealings).

As soon as there's a private address to send funds to...I'd be thrilled to send funds to them.  This is a great forum, and one I am immensely thankful for it's existence.

Generally, I would agree.  Unfortunately, that statement contradicts what you've previously posted on the matter:

"There should be a free place for people to network. Period."

"I'm just saying that everyone, regardless of finances, should be able to network for free."

"But this is more of a general community, get to know each other, networking kind of place and I think that should be free."

That sounds an awful lot like entitlement to me.

GeekyGirl -> RE: Make this a paid site! (2/6/2007 6:04:29 PM)

Think what you want. I just happen to realize that not everyone is in a good financial situation and I think it's good that those people have a free place to meet others.

I'm so sad.

Aileen lightly hits GeekyGirl with towel as she gets out of shower...Strategically allowing the towel to slide down to show off her rather ample buttocks....GeekyGirl's eyes dart to Aileen68's crack....which does not go unnoticed.

GeekyGirl hitting Aileen with pillow....Sweat running down between her breast...Aileen68...In one fluid motion jumps on top of GeekyGirl...Her left breast flops out of her pink laced teddy....

Aileen68

I think that's the first rational thing I've ever heard you say.

Suddenly their eyes lock...and like a bee to honey GeekyGirl begins sucking on Aileen68's left nipple...."oooooh GeekyGirl." She moans as her hips begin to grind against GeekGirl. Like two cheese starved rodents they both begin to lick and eat on each others moistened meat farms.....(Domiguy turns away...Not wanting them to see him cry) "it's just so beautiful!!!!"

out.
