Spiders don't have human type eyesight and they don't really have the distance or depth perception to be able to put together a "mental picture" of an entire human. If it percieved you at all, you look to a spider like a rough vertical surface. Your hand or foot (or any other body part you are abruptly moving towards it in a threatening manner) may appear to be a hungry predator. A spider that launches towards you is most likely doing so under the impression that you're a safe place to climb. Or it's not looking at you at all and is simply going about its spidery business of eating the sorts of bugs that really can do harm to humans in a house. The vast majority of spiders are incapable of hurting anyone and should be left alone to do their thing. Even the spiders that are capable of causing human injury (Latrodectus, Loxosceles, Tegenaria) generally need outside help to do it, specifically they need a push from being crushed between clothing and skin in order to penetrate with their fangs. They can't usually generate the force to penetrate human skin on their own "muscle power".
