ORIGINAL: Shylahgirl What really makes a Master/Mistress? I know that there are alot of people out there who just slap master or mistress on their name and start collecting subs/slaves. Everyone starts off in the fictional world of BDSM when they start, at what point does the master/mistress step out of the fiction that got them started and become a Master/Mistress in real life? Shylah There a lot of people out there who slap on the title of slave or sub. Nothing makes them what they are except having the corresponding partner. There isn't a training school, there isn't a university - though a lot of people are happy to scam you and take your money. You can be taught by other more experienced dominants or masters, but they won't get a nice plaque to hang on the wall. I don't think you will be able to get a good answer to your question because there doesn't seem to be a hard and fast rule to what makes a master or a mistress except that they have a slave or sub. Some are loving, some are cruel. As for the fiction thing, I don't get where you are coming from. I didn't learn about the lifestyle from fiction and fiction didn't help me realize that I am submissive. I read some porn that told me what aroused me sexually but stories that included the lifestyle never really appealed to me and they still don't. Serving my dominant satisfies me and makes me happy but it's rather boring for me to read about someone else doing it. I mean, making a sandwich is not the most exciting thing in the world.
