I'm from Mississippi, and I have a LOT of family who were seriously involved in some sick racist crap in the 60s. It is well-known in the community, and regardless of the fact my father had nothing to do with it and the fact that I am not a racist, there is a serious stigma involved with my last name. I would consider a black Dom if I was looking just the same as anybody else, but as long as I live here I doubt a local black Dom would consider me.

It took him 2 years to understand that I meant what I said. It took him all that time to see how un-funny his comments were. And it took me all that time to make sure I wouldn't have to give up my parents. Tomorrow, we celebrate our 3rd year with me wearing his collar. A few more months and we'll have been together for 4 years. My parents have learned that he's not going away. My father finally saw how ugly the ethnic jokes were and now, instead of "I don't know about that," what I hear is "Ask R what he thinks about this."

I'm very proud of my father for coming so far. When you're 73, you tend to think that you know what's right and what's wrong. At 73, my father learned that he could be funny without insulting others along the way. He's maturing quite nicely. A few more years and he'll be the perfect father and an even more perfect man.

If you are having guilt I think its your issue, maybe its just black people in Arizona, but up here I would not say the majority of black people spend a lot of time trying to make while people apologize for slavery.

While I've never heard it from a black person I was interacting with on a personal level, I hear it a lot in my classrooms. In high school and in college, if we were studying a book written before modern times and by a white author it seemed to be more about "spot the racism" then studying the book for any merit it had as a great work of literature. I gained so much respect for one of my teachers (whom I believe was from the Caribbean) when she told a student that "No, I don't think Daisy's house [The Great Gatsby] was painted white as a racist symbol. I think it just meant purity, as white is viewed as pure in many cultures." Most of the teachers I've had will jump all over every tiny thing to show it as a symbol of racism.

Edited to Add: Amusingly, I think I hear the whole "be ashamed of your race thing" most from white teachers who almost seem to be apologizing for who they are. Which doesn't make a damn bit of sense to me!

When I first started returning to the local club in the hopes of finding a Daddy, that's what I was looking for: someone who clicked with me as Daddy. Race? Whatever. Age? If we could click that way despite a generation gap or two, I'd give it a go. What I found was a blonde guy a head taller and six years younger than me. Go figure.

However, as has been mentioned in various ways on this forum, there just aren't that many non-white people in the scene -- at least, not in the Seattle one. Granted, I was born and raised in Seattle, which adores diversity without having terribly much of it.

A great story I read years ago (which could be kinky urban legend by now, as I don't have a source to cite):

A kink club in a big city found a new place to hang out: a local bar. They had a few meetings there, and were getting glanced at and presumably talked about more than a bit by the regulars: many black 20 - 30-somethings in urban and/or hip-pop gear. Few in the leatherish faction were looking forward to it, but one night one of the regulars walked over to one of the meeting organizers and asked, "So, man -- what are you people about?"

"Hey. We're a BDSM organization. We meet here once a month and discuss stuff like whipping, dominance and submission, bondage and such. You know, man, kinky stuff."

"Damn, there's nothing kinky about wanting to tie your woman up."

Both factions reportedly got along quite well after that ice breaker.

If there's any truth to that story, one could draw the conclusion -- from, granted, a very small sampling -- that there are indeed kinky people of color out there, but that they either haven't found or don't feel that they have the need for a kinky community. Given that the same could be said for a great number of kinky white people, I figure it's mainly a question of ratios.

I really don't give two shits what color a man is. Now, really dark is not really my personal preference. Actually, my favorite skin type is Native American, Indian or Italian. I love love love love the way it looks and the contrast of it against my uber-pale skin... Yummy! But I don't care enough to go look for it exclusively. Would I date a black man if I am ever single again? Definately, if he fits what I'm looking for. I do have to agree with some others on one point though: I wouldn't want to submit to a guy who only wanted to dominate me because I'm white. I want him to want me for who I am, not what I look like.

One racial discussion I will jump into is this one.

As someone who's experienced people from all over the world, and has been a student of many cultures, the US is certainly not alone when it comes to racial issues and past. Just like different parts of tis country have different racially based social characteristics, other countries do as well.

I've found in my travels that most european countries have just as many social and institutional racist traits as the US, as do most asian countries and cultures.

racism isn't a US or white people problem, it's a problem all over the globe. Every culture, country, religion, or other sub segment has their own crosses to bear in these areas.
