For what it's worth the idea of a male wife, and a male wife who is in real life older than many hills. Hercules served three years as the “slave” of Omphale, Queen of Lydia. Now, during this time he did “woman’s work,” was one of her maids, and often dressed as a woman. Seems to me having a male serving you, pleasing you, pampering you who is extremy high in the male pecking order could only stoke any woman's ego, expecially if he is serving her because she deserves it and not out of force, threat or coercion. The term slave in this case has troubled me. How did Omphale, powerful Queen though she may be, keep the man who had held up the earth, changed the course of rivers, and even defeated the god of war, twice, a slave? He could have walked any time he wanted to yet the most macho man to ever exist in Mythology stayed and served her willingly. Does this being so old and so common indicate a natural way of being for the male in positions of true power? Oh, in his male persona while serving he he also protected her realm, dealt her adversaries pain and did other typical Herc. things when needed but he came back to maid service. At the end of the three years Omphale became the Goddess of the Sacred Place and Herc., well he was made divine. Later his priests of his cult dressed as women. I have read that a mortal became divine (in ancient Greece) when he or she became whole, complete, One. Like accepting and experiencing your other half. As a purely practical manner; was how does the male wife dress? Seems to me that he is assuming all the woman’s work duties and chores to make her life easier, yes? To do this I have to expect that the less hassle the better otherwise it becomes more of a game. A complete maid’s uniform with apron and cap (caps, hats and bonnets seem to have a power all thier own) would be the required livery. I do not mean some flouncy French maid little thing, but a maid’s work uniform. If you have ever been in the military or police services it is well known that uniforms have the power to cause the wearer to assume the characteristics of the uniform. I think the uniform would also inspire him to better and more efficient work I mean jees so dressed he is not going to sneak out for a beer and if he has’to have his chores done on a schedule who knows who she is going to bring home and see him in drag if he is lazy. I think a uniform helps him accept chores and status he has been told all his life are reserved for girls. Just for their energy and consistency to reinforce his role, status and place I would have him, at bare minimum, learn to curtsy and definitely address her by a title. Just a thought
