FR,

There is a thread in P&R for those who wish to discuss the politics of this issue: http://www.collarchat.com/m_4324121/tm.htm

THIS thread is a grieving thread and I have locked it for a quick cleanup. Posts that were in reply to a political comment will be removed as well. If anyone wants their post back to put on the other thread, please write me.

Thanks,

Chi

Thank you VA Chi
Like most I just want to express the almost unbearable feelings of grief and sadness I feel today
(there are other places to express my anger)
Nothing, absolutely nothing can ever fully explain the inexplicable act of evil done today.
I can not wrap my mind around this....kindergartners .How do these poor parents, these heartbroken families ever move forward from this ?

O God we can hardly speak, our minds are so full of questions, that we can barely think.
We are even angry Lord. In this tragic moment we ask that you will help us feel your warm embrace.

Father, you taught us how to love your children and now even in eternity, we ask that you give a special
blessing to the little ones now in your care. We think to day of the pleasures that will not be experienced,
let us also think of the pain that will not have to be endured.

These children will never lose the purity of innocence and at this moment in the midst of feeling great
love and sorrow we ask that you share our burden, as we cannot bear it alone.

AMEN

That's lovely, Poise! Thanks.

This is heartbreaking to me. Children's lives lost because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Families going through hell. I keep picturing my little niece and thinking how I would feel if something happened to her. What kind of person does something like this? I just don't know.

I have cried the entire day today. I asked my brother who lives far away from me to hug and kiss his kids for me and tell them I love them.

I cannot imagine the pain these families are in.

There really are no words available to say about this.

This seemed an apt selection from the Book of Common Prayer.

God our Father*, you see your children growing up in an
unsteady and confusing world: Show them that your ways
give more life than the ways of the world, and that following
you is better than chasing after selfish goals. Help them to
take failure, not as a measure of their worth, but as a chance
for a new start. Give them strength to hold their faith in you,
and to keep alive their joy in your creation; through Jesus
Christ our Lord. Amen.

* Feel free to substitute "Mother" if that works better for you.

I certainly don't think that this is a good thing...but I find irony in the timing. Christmas the day of santa, family & memories we talk about the rest of our lives. With how far we have gone from the family values many of us had, its sad this event may be what it takes for everyone to hold their kids a little closer, longer, harder.
I know my grandfather passing christmas morning affected every holiday after. I can't get my brain to even process what this holiday will be like for these families. Even worse families with kids on the UNOS list that prayed for a transplant so their child would live...never imagined something like this.

I live in Portland, and we've been devastated by the senseless violence from a few days ago. I mean, how could someone go into a mall at Christmas time and randomly shoot strangers? Its just beyond comprehension...........

But then this happens. No matter how horrible our tragedy was, this is heartbreaking on so many more levels. Kindergartners, for God's sake!

The Oregon shooting was awful too. I was looking up the location, because my dad lives out there and I started to worry when I heard.

Well I managed to watch a whole 3 minutes of news before disintegrating into tears and changing the channel to Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer.

Like many here, I am dumbfounded by all the "armchair experts". Here's a thought....if its not something you would walk up to anyone of those parents and share with them today, well golly gee maybe just maybe you should keep those pearls of wisdom to yourself for a few days. And now if you will excuse me, I need to call my son and tell him yet again that I love him.

I have been in tears all day. They were just babies. I held my little girl today so thankful she was with me and safe but so heartbroken for those parents who would never hold their babies again.

It has been a devasting day. Connecticut is a small state and somehow everyone I know in town here (an hour away) knows families in Sandy Hook.
