I wanted to share this with yall. It was from a parent to the faculty at the school I work at. I changed identifying information, but it made me feel good about the job I go to do every day. It also made me cry. I hope some of you enjoy. ___________________________________________________ Good evening~ I wanted to write you because today was clearly an emotional day for many parents who made the choice to send their children to school, even for those of us who do not live in the community that was devastated by Fridays tragic event. I would be lying if I did not think twice about my child going to school and thought many times over the weekend about her safety at our school. However, as I drove away this morning and continued on with my appointments, I felt a sense of peace, calm and comfort knowing that my daughter was surrounded by a staff of educators who not only care about her success, but care about her as a person and have taken the time to know her name and regularly greet her in the hallways of her school. The example of care and love has extended to our family as many have taken the time to know us as her parents and even her little baby brother. I realize that our school may not be Fort Knox and in tragedies like last Friday it forces you to have a responsibility to re-evaluate what policies and procedures that may be in place and what may need to be improved for the safety of each of you. Yet, the one comfort that I have as a parent and realized more than ever today...is that the staff, each of you, have made a point to know the students of our school, and the parents and families of each of those children and that is more than I could ever ask for. You love our children as if they were your own and I feel confident that you would protect them if you ever were in that position. I appreciate each of you more than you will ever know and I am sorry it took an event like Friday, to bring me to a place of reflection and a voice to state that feeling. I hope that even in our new school...the opportunity to know each child and their family will continue and that will be the priority for each of you to carry on this love, commitment and dedication to all of us, as I feel certain that is what makes this school so special and brings a sense of comfort to a parent who leaves their most prized possession in the care of each of you. You have and will continue to make a difference in the lives of our children and I know I am deeply grateful. Thank you for choosing to be the first hero in my daughter's life and one that will last a lifetime. In Kind~ her mom
