Please refer to articles or quotes that would allow you to reach the conclusion of comparing Carter to Falwell..... I can recall few Americans on either side of the aisle who have lived heir life with such compassion and dignity as Jimmy Carter....Sanity the more you post the more you make it obvious that only someone unable to formulate an opinion of their own would still place any merit whatsoever on what you have to say.

If you're unaware that Jimmah Cattah & Co are HUGE bible-thumpers then there's nothing to be done to help you. The point is that Libs are bible-thumping _________'s too, and all your pathetic attempts at lowly insults won't change the basic facts

Why would I ever consider Jimmy Carter to be an asshole?  All he has done is live his life by example of how their is nobility in helping those who are in need or less fortunate....If more "bible thumpers" took the time to actually help others instead of investing their time to see what is going on in our lives and bedrooms this world would be a much better place to live.

Falwell is dead? But but but but but, who will tell us what cartoons are the work of the devil?.....and who will out children's show characters as supposed homosexuals......and and....who will try to turn us all back to the light from the hellish darkness we've all sank into?  It's a tragedy of epic proportions....did I overplay that at all? I can never tell.

it is not about being PC.  It is about having regard for another human regardless if they have valued yours or not.  It is more about the value of life and i guess some kind of caring or morality.

I'm going to have to agree to disagree with you on that one.

When someone declares himself at war with all the things I love and value, and spends his time actively trying to hurt and enslave me and take away my rights, then he is my enemy.  I will destroy him if I can.  Not for revenge, but to protect me and mine.  I will rejoice at my enemy's death, not because I am petty or cruel, but because the world is a safer place for me and mine.  That is my morality.  I don't play "love the sinner, hate the sin".  Fuck with me and mine, and you get no slack just because you're another hairless ape.

I believe that all humans are not of equal worth.  Value is determined by individual choice of action or inaction, and it is also highly subjective - a mother will obviously value her child more than a stranger will, and a social group will value an individual who is a contributing member of that group more than someone who is not a member.   Raise your hand to me and mine, and your value as far as I'm concerned becomes zero.  I'd as soon put a bullet in your head than fuck around with making excuses for why you did it and how you're a really great human being worthy of love and little twittering bluebirds of spiritual happiness, just because you walk on two legs.  I don't care.  Scumbag breaks into my house, I don't want him in rehab, I want him in a body bag, and I'm damn well going to put him there if I possibly can.

Grew up poor and in the ghetto?  So did a lot of people, some of whom are now millionaires or mayors.  Get a job.  It's not an excuse to steal.  Had a shitty childhood?  Get therapy.  It's not an excuse to abuse your own kids.  People are mean to you at school?  Learn some social skills.  Shooting your classmates is not acceptable.  Ate too many Twinkies and can't control yourself?  Took drugs or got drunk so whatever you did is not your fault?  Get help for your addiction.  It's not a valid defense for criminal behavior.   The bottom line is that people make conscious choices about what they do in life, even though most of them try to blame it on everyone but themselves.  Those choices have hardline consequences.

One of those consequences is that if you fuck with people who don't love and value everyone equally just because they're human, we're just going to shoot your ass and really not care that you may have had wonderful potential for being rehabilitated as a contributing member of society.  If we don't get to shoot your ass, we're still going to be happy when you're dead and no longer able to hurt people.  Obviously we don't get to actually shoot the scumbags who are doing their hurting on the political arena and not by breaking into houses or mugging people, but we certainly can and do fight back with the same weapons they are using on us.

So maybe I'm an asshole, but I'd like to think that living by these policies generally makes me a safer asshole.

While it's true that I'm a Christian, it's also true that I was not a follower nor a fan of Mr. Falwell. I have to say that some of the things he said (the very nitty-gritties) were right but, for the wrong reasoning (We have become a Godless society but, that doesn't mean that we are responsible for Osama Bin Asshole).

What I find, amusing, once again, is the hate that is being spewed upon a human being who happened to have the misfortune of having millions of sheeple agree with his twisted opinions? I have gotten a view into the minds and hearts of some of the posters, here and I have learned a lot; possibly, too much.

If I say I don't care, does that make me a bad person??

Falwell promoted intolerance to others lifestyle and beliefs. He blamed all other lifestyles and religious beliefs on Sept 11th, come on, the guy was a jurk. I don't wish death on anyone, yet right now, he is being judged, an I hope he is being judged as he judged others, with a narrow one track mind.

Any one have any marshmallows??

{thank goodness my family isn't online, i would be disowned right now}

For you to say you don't care doesn't make you a bad person.  Relishing in it in my opinion does.

minnetar

I feel pity for the man, just as I did for Saddam and as I have for any other person who was unjust and died I would want answers to 'why' and 'how' they could be so unjust and so narrow-minded. Thats me though, I am ALWAYS asking questions and always seeking answers.

I remember being forced to watch Falwell on tv when I was younger, I questioned his morals and ideals, and in my family that is like treason. No doubt, I will be hearing from my family tonight and when we get together in July, this will be a BIG topic, I can only hope that things won't get ugly. I may have to stay out of town an extra day.

Slaverose, PLEASE invite me to that!

i appreciate the response as we can agree to disagree.  Many have very extreme responses to people who i think have disregarded their rights and opinions and You are entitled to that.  i just am sad when anyone life's has passed regardless of what i have felt about him as a person as others are involved.  He wasn't a person who mutiliated and killed others but had the same disregard and was only spoken.

thanks again for knowing that we can disagree on our opinions.

What I do know is that it doesn't revolve around people "getting their jollies" out of his death. Pretty simple.

Ummm Have you been to a Charismatic church service?  Or a Holiness Service?  How about seem a snake handlers service?  If those people who are dancing around singing and shouting at the top of their lungs and falling out in the floor aren't getting their jollies off then they are wasting alot of energy for nothing.

I love it when people start a sentence off with "umm", or the all time fave "uhhh".

Do you think that's the be-all, end-all of Christianity?

Christianity has many faces.  However the charismatic movement is the fastest growing of them all.

Put it this way...I do feel sorry for his biological family, especially his kids if he had any, since they didn't make his choices for him, nor did they choose to be related to the hate-spewing sicko.  Unless they're out doing the same shit he did, in which case they're in the same no-sympathy category as far as I'm concerned.

But sure, agreeing to disagree is not a problem.  Thank you for doing so courteously.

Again, nobody is getting the jollies about it. People are just happy they don't have to deal with his hatred and that those who spew his hatred no longer have a leader. Would you blame the Jewish for being rid of Hitler? It's pretty much the same - Falwell would have killed us all if he could. He certainly prayed for our death enough and believed AIDs was sent to cleanse the world of us.
