"While we'd like to think that adoption is a viable option for us, my girlfriend doesn't believe that she'd be able to give up a child after giving birth to it, and that's not something I'm going to pressure us into doing. We also don't want to be subconsciously resentful of a child that we kept when we weren't ready for it. If we're not ready to raise it, we're not going to bring a baby into the world."

Yet she could kill it?  Hmmm... and don't you think for one second that I'm believing this load of garbage.  I don't.  PLENTY of people do it.  My sister for example.  She gave birth when she didn't have the money to raise a child.  I find it hard to believe that this 'couple' cannot find a single person in their family to help them raise this child.  That it assuming that there is a couple and there is a child.  The fact that their terms and conditions say not to try to find out who they are is fishy to me anyway and make me want to report them to someone.  And no, I will not pay them their $25,000 for turning them in for the scam.  Fucking idiots.

Why only $50,000.00?  It costs a lot more than that to raise a child.

Where's the contact info?  This is what they state under their terms and conditions:

  • You do not, and will never, know who we are. You agree not to try to find out who we are.

  • You can send an email but that's it.  No guarantee you will hear back from them or that they are even a real couple in the situation described. More from their terms and conditions:
    • You are _giving_ us money, with no expectation of getting anything in return, ever. We are not obligated to do, or refrain from, anything as a result of your or anyone else's donation.

     They say:

"Understand that you are giving the money to us, with no obligation on our part."  "Please do not attempt to contact us. We have registered and hosted this site through a company that allows for anonymity in that process, and are having them handle our donations as well. They will not tell you our names, because they don't know them. They don't know how to contact us."

So, there's no sure way to know who they are or even if they are. From some very close friends I have known over the years, who decided to have their baby aborted, making the decision to abort was an extremely difficult and emotionally painful.  It's not like making the decision to buy instead of renting a house, if you can get the money.  They seem rather matter of fact about it all.  Where's the anguish? The girlfriend is going to have a baby growing inside her for 3 months and then have him/her destroyed if they don't get the $50K?  A woman can do that but "my girlfriend doesn't believe that she'd be able to give up a child after giving birth to it"?  This just doesn't add up to me.   Speaking of adding up......

USDA REPORT ESTIMATES CHILD BORN IN 1999 WILL COST $160,140 TO RAISE
    Release No. 0138.00

The report by USDA's Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion notes
that family income affects child rearing costs, with low-income families
projected to spend $117,390; middle-income families $160,140; and upper-income families $233,850 over a seventeen year period. The full report, "Expenditures on Children by Families," is available on the web at www.usda.gov/cnpp.

So what's going to happen when this couple uses up the $50K they raise and the kid is only 9 years old and the girlfriend still can't bring herself "to give up a child after giving birth to it"?  Do they have another online fundraiser to get the next $50K they will need to keep raising her/him or they will have to kill her/him? This has nothing to do with being pro-life or pro-choice.  Its about another Internet scheme to get suckers to feel guilty and sympathetic so they can get some easy money.____________________slave joy

    Why do you say that?

They give contact information.  Call them on the phone and find out.  Have them fax you the doctors reports.

Then, if it turns out to be true, presumably all the pro-lifers will find their checkbooks to save the life of that baby.

Well, the link is either a scam, or these people have a seriously warped idea of parenthood (pay us or we don't have the child). They're appealing to the anti-abortion lobby, obviously.

On the other hand, I think people here are getting all hot and bothered on the subject of abortion (yet again): if only they stopped mingling with other people's business.

If a woman wants to carry a pregnancy to its full term, good. If she feels she cannot, she should be able to interrupt it without busybodies telling her what she can or cannot do.

Effectively: people, keep your noses out of our cunts.

I don't remember ever saying that all women needed to be pro-life.  Oh, that's right, because I didn't.  I spoke for myself saying that I was and not to assume that everyone was pro-choice.  But thank you for your own two cents.

Hold your horses, darling. I'm fully aware that a lot of women (especially in the USA) are against the right to choose. It was quite obvious from your first post that you were against the right to choose.

The law is the law, though, isn't it? If you choose to have a child, fine. If another woman chooses not to have a child, the law protects her choice. Barely, but it still does. I'm holding on to that.

Now, what was that about assumPtions?

    :-)

Meth is an addiction that drives some to sell their bodies for a fix.
Fertile females who do this may concieve.
If the fetus survives to term, it may well be born addicted.

Or... the lady may opt to abort

Neither of these are wonderful things

I think that 'recovery' from meth addiction is... low

I agree with everything you just said.  But just because a woman is addicted and she MAY conceive and the child MAY be born addicted does not make it ok in my mind to go around taking pre-emptive action by paying addicts to get sterilized so that they won't happen.  Addiction - esp. if it leads to birthing an addicted child - is a horrible thing.  But going around offering money to addicts to make a decision that will impact them the rest of their lives (whether they stay addicted or not) is not acceptable IMO.  The whole idea of offering money to addicts as an incentive to do anything you want them to just feels sleazy.  Kind of like offering food/water to a starving/dying of thirst person.  Because of their screaming needs, they're more than likely gonna take it and agree to whatever you ask.  That doesn't make it right to do........luci

The  way I see it, what other women do with their body and conscience is their business.  So long as you don't go asking me for the money to do it, whatever.  I, on the other hand, would never get one nor would I support anyone that gets one.  Ever.

As for the spelling, please, don't make fun of it.  I just woke up and I'm still as tired as hell.  And as if you have ever made spelling errors before.

Alright then let me ask you this (and I have no percentages for weighting, just that from all I have ever heard, meth is near impossible to kick)

    Which is the Greater Wrong

    1. convince someone to give up future reproductive options
    2. conceive & birth an addicted infant / abort with some frequency

I didn't say she was.  Good Lord.  The way it was wrote, I took it to mean she was speaking for all women.  If that wasn't how it was, then I apologize, but please, do NOT get on my back for applying myself to a conversation.

I think this is nothing but emotional blackmail, cleverly designed to prey upon the same kind of suckers who send money to TV evangelists and the like.

As for the whole issue of abortion, I personally believe that it is nobody's business but the woman involved's as to the fate of her foetus. Two things always strike me as ironic about the pro-lifers - firstly that they often cite that 'God' is the motivation for their beliefs, but fail to acknowledge that 'God' supposedly gave us free will, so surely it is a woman's choice whether to have her child or not ('He' of course exercised free will in allowing his progeny to be murdered by way of crucifiction), and secondly that they will campaign vociferously for the rights of an unborn child, but then happily shoot a doctor who carries out abortions. Guess his pro-life choice didn't count, eh?

I am neither Christian, nor do I believe in a higher being.  I also would not shoot anyone.  Well, maybe a few ex boyfriends.  Otherwise, as I stated, I'm pro-life, but I am not about to go out and keep a woman from getting them.  If she wants one, she'll find a way.  And my time could be used for better things.

I think this entire thread was made to make pro-lifers donate.  However, it is not the best one.  Mostly because they would be donating to a scam.  So, the original point is no more.  Then again, it never was.
