ORIGINAL: SardonicAss You go ahead with that. And while you're doing that, my friends and I will be quietly pursuing the predator in the pickup who just snatched a UM that the cops are unable to chase down because they're busy busting those nefarious parking space bandits. I can see the headlines now "violent offenders set free to make room for those serving time under a mandatory sentencing law....their crime: PARKING. Well you certainly live up to your name! How lucky you are to able to "chase" other people. For some people those spaces are needed for them to be able to go about their lives. I would never wish a disability on anyone but perhaps for a couple of minutes you should consider what it would be like to make plans to go shopping or to the bank, and please remember for someone with a disability it is often not just a matter of popping into the car and driving off, getting to where you are going and finding no spaces available because someone decided to be lazy and park in a designated space because they can't be bothered to walk a couple of extra yards making it impossible for them to be able to do the shopping they planned. Some of us would love to be able to walk a couple of yards extra but that is just not an option we have. Not to mention the vulnerability of someone who is handicapped and in the process of loading and unloading themselves from their vehicle. I think being able to be up close to the front of the establishment holds a bit more security. As far as the athletes.. maybe it's one of those "invisible" injuries. As long as they made an effort to get what they need- fine. There will always be unscrupulous doctors with hero worship willing to "help out a buddy". Again, my focus is on those with NO or Questionable ID attached to their vehicle when parked in the spot. Oh. and Ass- your comments indicative of your name. Just keep you Ass out of a handicap spot until you need one, and you'll be fine for we are are all only temporarily "able-bodied" I think being up close to a building helps with EVERYONE'S security, not just the handicapped. When my mom goes to work (when she's not off for 6 weeks with surgery recovery) her assigned space is like 3 blocks away from where she works. ZERO security there. I think it's rediculous that a 55+ year old woman is shuttled out to a desolate area, far from witnesses, to get into her vehicle just because she 'can walk.' As for where my ass will be, I CAN walk and I never park in a handi-space. However, I say that with the caveat that if my surgury-recovering mom needed to be closer...you're damned right she'd be as close to the door as I could get her, handi-space, fire lane or otherwise. If I had a 4x4, I'd pull up onto the curb too, I don't care. And anyone is MORE than welcome to write my license down or call the cops. As soon as my cell phone video of my mom's short, wincing steps is shown in court, it will be a slamdunk for my lawyers, and easily dismissed by the courts that have far more important things on their agenda then where one guy with an infirmed mom was parked for 5 minutes one day out of the year. (can you just HEAR my eyes rolling?)
