There are so many things I find irksome in society, Owner59, and I realized long ago I need to narrow my focus and effect change where I am able to.

You make valid points, however.

I think the best that anyone can do,is be informed and vote.Vote with your feet, your money, and w/ emails/phone calls to your three members of congress.

If we weren`t being missled on life and death issues, like Iraq and our war on terror,it wouldn`t be a big deal.We could just laugh at the sillyness. It`s the deadly nature those things, that makes their deceptions so serious.

To cap it off, I find most of them have a tendency to be simply rude to their guests.  I keep waiting for one of them to be rude to Dr. Hannibal Lecter so we dont have to listen to their inane twaddle any longer.

Goodness, yes.

If you know one, please get him/her hooked on talk radios and such.

Additionally, I could not help but notice that these shows solicit their advertising from a pretty bizarre layer of commerce. (snip) leading me to wonder if the people behind these shows start with the premise that their target demographic is listeners who will have absolutely zero critical thinking skills.

In fact, it doesn't matter. The bottom line is that advertisers only put their ads where they will do some good, which means they have already checked the demographic, so whether it was known in advance or not by the people behind the shows, it is known now by the advertisers, and hence by us.

BOUNTYHUNTER -> RE: Restoring the draft (7/24/2007 6:37:42 PM)

Are you crazy? Who do you think serves now people with an MIT education, Princeton or Yale,Hell no its those that can't find work or afford school or using the military to be able to attend,SO don't spoon feed me your bullshit.A draft makes it fair for all americans..bounty

To no one in particular,I was drafted and served,My brother was drafted and served,MY son in law was drafted and served,SO  what makes all the rest of you so much better then we?I would love to see the draft come back...bounty

It isn't a matter of the rest of us being better than you, but a matter of you being no less than us, and a matter of the draft being socially accepted forced labour for economic reasons, pretty much indistinguishable on any practical level from involuntary slavery. Had there not been mandatory service in Norway, I'd have gone for a career in the military. As it is, I chose to find a way out instead.

BOUNTYHUNTER -> RE: Restoring the draft (7/24/2007 6:40:33 PM)

SO I see just a tint of yellow down your back.

To quote Paul Graham:
"The problem is, there are so many things you can't say. If you said them all you'd have no time left for your real work. You'd have to turn into Noam Chomsky."

That's totally uncalled for. But I think you know it?

farglebargle -> RE: Restoring the draft (7/24/2007 6:43:40 PM)

If the draft was FAIR, why didn't Idiot Bush see combat?

How many good men died because he was "Too Busy" or some such shit?

BOUNTYHUNTER -> RE: Restoring the draft (7/24/2007 6:45:05 PM)

The draft is about 85 % fair and its better chopice then we have now....

BOUNTYHUNTER -> RE: Restoring the draft (7/24/2007 6:46:39 PM)

Get back to me when Barbara and Jenna Bush enlist.

That really does indicate that "The Fight" isn't the end of civilization. If it was IMPORTANT, they would have served.

There are none more cowardly as those of service age, who support the war, but have not enlisted.

Risking 50% over the max penalty for murder one in order to stand for your morality may be "yellow" in your world.
Where I come from, it's called "civil disobedience", and is done when something has gone too far.
Perhaps people are too cowed to do that in America, I don't know.
Until I read that post, it didn't seem like that was the case.
I hope your view is not representative.
Or that I misunderstood it.

Some of us feel that having no nation at all would be preferrable to one we cannot stand for, or that having no existance at all would be preferrable to one our conscience cannot support. There is historical precedent for both views in America. I doubt they have died out, but feel free to prove me wrong.

BOUNTYHUNTER -> RE: Restoring the draft (7/24/2007 6:50:34 PM)

Ohh wise one of nothing, I said 85% fair...BY the way dude what is your service to the country,I have been meaning to ask you, are you another one that sat at home picking this country apart while myself and millions of others bled so you could..bounty

michaelOfGeorgia -> RE: Restoring the draft (7/24/2007 6:53:12 PM)

why doesn't the government draft those death-row inmates that are just waiting to die anyway? why should we continue to pay for their time in prison?

luckydog1 -> RE: Restoring the draft (7/24/2007 6:53:55 PM)

And if Farg was serious about his beliefs he would be out planting Car bombs or something against the Feds here in the USA, instead of just cheerleading .  He has said many times that the courts and thier rulings (yep the same system that produced Dredd Scott) are illigitamate, and that the President is illigitimate, and the Congress oversteps the Constitution.  So we can conclude that he, along with the Bush daughters, lacks the courage to follow through on his stated beliefs.

BOUNTYHUNTER -> RE: Restoring the draft (7/24/2007 6:55:03 PM)

ITS called cut and run and you are a lesser man for doing so and yet here you are espousing bull about america,if you don't like it then leave,I'll hold a boat for you and farglebargle..bounty

That's laughable.

No one bled for MY Freedom and Liberty! Propaganda Much?

If there's any defending to do, *I* will defend MY Freedom and Liberty.

The Federal Government is a failure, like that of the Articles of Confederation.

Accept that reality, devolve whatever authority has been delegate back to the States, and try again if you want to.

( And the USA didn't do squat while my family members were being exterminated by Nazis, either... In fact, PRESCOTT BUSH, W's Grandpappy went out of his way to help Adolph.... )
