When one person tells you you have missed the joke's point you can question that person's perspective when 5 people all tell you you misread the joke's point it's time to look at yourself.

The point being YOU missed the joke, It was NEVER aimed at those who might actually have a legitimate claim to the term "Old Guard" it was in fact aimed at those who claim it but have no legitimate claim to it.

The next poit is you have been told by 5 people that you misread the joke's target, time to look at yourself rather than trying to rail against a ghost of a slight that wasn't there.

Is that a "yes" to the grape shot?  You ARE one kinky boy!

Grapes and a shot sounds like a party, LOL but you gotta peal those grapes first, it's tradition, LOL.

Hmmm....yes....its everyone else.

This has been interesting discussion about how the "Old Guard" is an era of time and not a clear cut, organized Moses tablet of traditions and protocols. The people that were being mocked were the ones who blew it way out of proportion, claiming to be the "true Old Guard", and create even worse misconceptions about what it was like.

Then you came along and accused "All of Us" of being intolerant bigots and trashing THE traditions of THE Old Guard. You dont actually provide any quotes as to where people said the things they did, but continue to puff and huff, accusing everyone of intolerance despite any additional clarification and continue on an overly zealous crusade that has no merit.

I have asked you to provide a list of THE traditions that make up the "One True Way" of the Old Guard that you are claiming we are bashing here, but you still havent.

Have you considered that the traditions you followed during your time in the gay leather community arent the same traditions everywhere else?

I've read quite a few essays on Leather history and the only similarity is that everything was different in different places except for a few general underlying principles.

I've wondered and reasearched and tried to figure out what exactly this "grand royal set of "Old Guard" traditions" exactly is in a unversal sense, but still in the end...I am in the dark.

I'm sorry if you dont like being called on your bullshit, but I take great personal offense when I am lumped into a category of "bigots and intolerants" simply because I made a couple of jokes regarding people who take the "Old Guard" way toooo far.

No one has bashed or insulted the specific traditions you follow at the one particular gay leather community you spent time in, but if you are going to claim that those traditions, are in fact, THE traditions of THE Old Guard...then I think you are way off base.

As we say in the Hood.... "WORD!"

That's what has caused problems in local communities, saying that these (so called) traditions are laws. Don't even get me started on the "Grand Master" title one.

Still this has been a great thread!

Caio.

Please do not beat a hasty retreat before offering up a well deserved apology to me.  That is, assuming honor has any place in whatever traditions you hold dear.

P.S. - I can barely keep the bile from rising in my throat to even use the term "honor" in a BDSM context, given its rhetorical overuse.

Early on, I considered myself a switch because I enjoyed bottoming during scenes where I could fight & thrash & generally be completely aggressive. I understand leather boys became men at a certain point. Maybe that's where I am?

Thanks for your attention EvilKitty, it's appreciated.
I wish I could be as clear. I've been a slave. Felt right. I was no more resistant than any semi newbie.
Just don't know.  Thanks, Zac

This thread made me angry. I identify with the leather tradition, as I was taught ( not saying it is "the way").
Then I realized:  No one ever actually said Old Guard. Not seriously or rightously. If said , it was offhand and with a shrug. <shrug>

Ya know.  I personally could care less whether a person identifies as Old Guard, or has 20,000 experience points at beating submissives, or learned their BDSM as a bottom before being allowed to sit at the Adults (read Dominant) table.

I have real issues with people who denigrate such.  As I told the soccer team I coached, it is not really possible to build oneself up by tearing other people down.

If it doesnt work for you, fine,  Let it go, and let those people enjoy and experience the life they wish to experience.

Sinergy,

How do you rectify these two seemingly opposing goals

If people enjoy denegrating others, isn't that the "life they wish to experience" bitter though it may be?

Errr no ,

I'll make one comment about it, I don't have a problem with leather/BDSM families feeling that their patriarch or matriarch should be called that within their family, I think that's a great honor they are giving to someone they feel fond about and respect.

But I draw the line when it is expected that the community is supposed to call them that. I had an experience with that and it made me re think a lot of things about BDSM and community and it took me years to work that out in my mind as well as clean out my closet.

There are many people who follow certain protocols that I respect and even have incorporated some of their teachings in my own family. I'd mention names but I'm no star f*cker. Some are active on this chat board and I may personally think they are a helluva Dominant or submissive.  Yet, when people EXPECT you to respect their (so called) title and so called protocol then they've lost that respect.  I've made that (really bad) movie once and I have no desire to be in the sequel.
