"And there are plenty of people,w/ out criminal records, who abuse their gun rights.A couple years ago, someone shot off the lower jaw and tongue off my neighbor`s dog.It  limped back home and had to be put down.God help the "gun nut" who did that,if I ever find him."

just curious-----why do you conclude that the person who shot the dog had no criminal record?   You are equating anyone in the NRA as a gun nut right?  Or do you mean anyone who possesses a gun (even completely illegally) is a pro gun nut?
Also I am an animal lover but have no problem shooting a loose dog that is attacking one of my animals.  Many dogs that act very sweet at home and around the kids will go on kiling rampages when they get loose.  Most places you are not legally allowed to let your dog run loose, and you really have no right to get upset if you fail to secure, or actually train,  your dog follows its natual instincts into harm.

Why exactly do you consider the 2nd amendmant to be invalid?  Or could you clarify your position better if I mis interpret it.  Anyone who supports the 2nd amendmant is a "pro gun nut"?  Why do you not support it?

Guns and kids are fine....Ignorance and kids is always a problem, whether there are guns involved or not

"Guns and kids are fine....Ignorance and kids is always a problem, whether there are guns involved or not"

Wrong!
Until you can iliminate ignorance,we have to err on the side of children.
Everything`s fine, till it isn`t,and someone`s dead. Why do you think they give you "death, and lol, dismemberment insurance",when you join the NRA?

As to you other questions, you have still to answer my question, about bush and Plamegate. When ever you`re ready....

Heh, this is one debate that never fails to draw strong emotions from both sides of the coin.  What really saddens me is that I don't see people doing enough in-depth research about the subject.  After all, it's much easier to make broad, emotionally based speculations than to spend a couple of hours doing some in-depth research...

GhitaAmati -> RE: Gun control (8/9/2007 12:05:56 PM)

Ok....but this is where me and the government part ways (ok, we parted long ago, but still a personal pet peeve)...who they hell gave anybody else the right to tell me how to raise my kids? At what point do you stop spouting off about "the greater good" and get out of everyone elses personal business??

mnottertail -> RE: Gun control (8/9/2007 12:07:11 PM)

what now might one in-depth research about?

I own guns, I have children, I will always own guns, I have owned them since being a child.  End of convo. The NRA is not extreme enough.

I hunt. I smoke. I drink. I swear.

in-depth research will not enlighten me further. Who fuckin' cares?

Please understand something about what I wrote, Owner. My chidren are not allowed access to loaded guns. Yes, there are weapons in the house. Under close supervison my children are tought gun safety. It is possible to teach alot of aspects of gun safety without ever handling a weapon. Once they are old enough to handle a weapon, alot of local kids are tought how to safetly handle one...but even once they are tought that, they still dont have access to weapons. We do not leave any weapon laying around the house, and yes I agree, to do so would be idiotic. I also happen to know a young teenage boy who lives down the road from us whose friends decided it would be "cool" to show off his daddy's gun. I am pretty darn sure that it could have turned into one of those accidental shootings very easily. Lucklily, the young man in question new exactly how to handle the situation because it is something that was discussed with him from a very young age.

I   knew already, that you weren`t reckless with firearms.I just had to put my two cents in.I think demystifying weapons is a good idea.

It`s just that so many aren`t being responsible and are fucking things up for the rest of us.Bullets can travel up to a mile or more and go through houses like butter. You can only hope that your neighbor is as careful as you are.

Peace

Which is why I live where I do...everyone within about 5 miles of me is related, and the few families who arent related have lived next door to each other we know eachother well enough to be considered family anyway. The peice of land I own is the same peice of land my family was on over 150 years ago, and except for the small part the governament claimed immenant domain on, the origional family land is all still in the family. Anytime someone dies or moves away, we buy it up before someone else moves in.

mnottertail -> RE: Gun control (8/9/2007 12:16:17 PM)

My kids dont touch or tote guns, Mr. Quickthink.  What you want to read into things is rarely there.

Ron, you're illustrating my point.  You're getting emotional and just spouting off about your position without really saying anything to try and persuade the opposition.  You're getting bent out of shape at what I have to say without even knowing what side of the fucking arguement I'm on!

You say the NRA isn't extreme enough.  What does that even mean?  Extreme in what sense?  You aren't really helping their cause with "who fuckin' cares".

What really gets me riled up the most is not the question at hand.  What I really hate to see is that one or two people make clear, educated arguments while another handful of people jump in with either "I own guns and you'll get them from me when you pry them out of my cold, dead hands," or the opposing argument, "My GOD!  You have kids AND own guns?!  Your kid is going to get shot and so are all of his friends!"

GhitaAmati -> RE: Gun control (8/9/2007 12:33:16 PM)

understeer...if you really knew and understood Ron, youd probably not have to ask for an explination....

mnottertail -> RE: Gun control (8/9/2007 12:37:03 PM)

I am not interested in the arguments either way.  I am not riled up, never said I was, you are saying you are.

Trust me, If I say who fuckin' cares?  There is no hidden National Treasure code in that.

It is rhetorical to me.  I don't fuckin' care, and there is nothing to in-depth research that is going to sway me. It would be a large fuckin waste of time.

What really I have to laugh at is guys like you that have to be amazed that anyone talks without in-depth research, maybe you could in-depth research why that is and phone it in for me.

LOLOLOLOL.

You attribute far more depth to my words than my shallow nature would dare accept. But overall, I am ok with that.

Well, Ghita, perhaps if you watched the video you would understand my disgust and horror. It's not because I say the people on the film are insane that I implied you were. And even so! What do you care? After all, I'm just another anti-gun fanatic.

One of the little girls shooting an automatic riffle is actually wearing a 'Bush-Cheney' T-shirt.

These people are insane.

and what in your professional opinion justifies that label?

I have to agree with this....what ever was she thinking....what a fashion faux paux! It should have been an NRA tee shirt!
Who would wear a tee shirt with the name of someone that mistook his buddy for a quail to a shooting event!

Finally, someone got the other half of my point.

Oh what evil stems from that sentiment.  I take it you oppose sites like this and anything else of an adult nature on the internet, after all "we must err on the side of children".  We shouldn't allow BDSM books to be sold in bookstores because "we must err on the side of children"

Rapists use penisis to rape women, we should cut off penises to prevent rape.  I mean "we must err on the side of children"  People like you really REALLY scare me.

I say that as a left wing liberal with socialist leanings that would terrify many here.

LATEXBABY64 -> RE: Gun control (8/9/2007 1:53:29 PM)

well as a right wing Conservative god bless America cause where else can you you go and put your two cents of bs out for the rest of the world and not get shot  or burn a flag or do other degrading stupid things.. there is a lot of aniti American people living in America.. why be here if you can not respect the laws. that our founding fathers put forth i think they had a better education and had a better understanding of how the world worked  then most. when the gun law was put in motion it was to protect the Innocent from the tyranny  from invading our homes and hurting our family's  what i find scarry of late people seem to cushy about this.

kittinSol -> RE: Gun control (8/9/2007 1:57:44 PM)

Are you saying there is currently a tyranny in place in the USA? And if so, why aren't you fomenting an armed revolution to get rid of it? After all, it is your duty if you believe in freedom and what the 'Founding Fathers' (whoever they were) stood for.

I will stand back and watch the revolution be televised.

As somebody who has been a full contact self defense instructor, including unarmed defense against the armed assailant, since the early 1980s, have taken gun safety courses, has shot (and taught) guns on and on most of my life, I certainly appreciate being lumped in with people who have not done enough research.

Sinergy

p.s.  I have done the research, I dont own a gun, but I am a follower of the ideal best expressed in Heinlein's Tunnel In The Sky.  A gun makes the person holding it feel 10 feet tall and invincible, whereas a person is a hairless, relatively defenseless individual.  I want to use my brain to think in a conflict situation, rather than the gun in my hand.

This is a few years old.  But I don't check youtube very often.  I just laughed my ass off when I found it.  This happened down the road from a friend of mine's house.  I remember sitting on his porch and listening to these people.

some days theres nothing more fun than making things go kaboom....i remember the first LAW i got to shoot in basic training.........ahhhhh memories

as for gun control, they all seem to be handling them correctly and hitting the targets......here in ga that is considered great gun control....

The way this works, Darlin, is that I quoted something from Mnottertail wherein he stated he smokes.
