Well I am leaning towards Guiliani.

If you do not understand the difference between an anyone can call in and vote as many times as they want, and conducting a scientifically valid sample based poll, I can't help you.

Casie, please consider, do you really think Bill Maher and his audience are going to vote for a libertarian isolationist?  I guess you do.  Remember they all loved John Mcaine....

It's been both amusing and distressing to see the media blackout on Ron Paul ... from both the right and the left ... something I've never seen before.

I can't afford to donate much to his campaign, but it's the first donation I've made to a candidate in decades ... and I've voted for the Democratic candidate in the last several elections.

I certainly don't hold to all of his view, but so what? It's not as if Barack Obama or anyone else out there truly 'represents' me.

There is a house a few miles up the road from me. The yard is decorated with several dozen 'abortion crosses' dotted with red paint. They erected a large wooden sign with the 10 commandments as well as 3 (why 3?) wooden signs declaring that the black helmets are arriving.
They just added 'Get US out of here', and a shiny new handpainted sign saying that Ron Paul is our next president so sinners beware.

The house is just north of 'Freedom Church' which has a dome and holds drum sessions, and that is next door to a Christian family nudist camp!
Gulp.  I live in a weird place.

I mentioned this in an earlier thread... in my part of town, the houses that have Ron Paul signs this election are the ones that had Badnarik signs last time... not the most encouraging of support systems.

Still it has to be a better choice than the forced one of Hilliuani, McEdwards, or Obomney, et al.

Luckydog1: I understand the difference between a "scientific poll" and a straw poll;
Look at this: Fox News:
http://www.usaelectionpolls.com/2008/fox-news-national-polls.html
Ron Paul: April: 0%  May 1%  June 2% August 3%
Gallup Polls:  http://www.usaelectionpolls.com/2008/gallup-national-polls.html
Ron Paul: February : 0%   March 1% , April 2%, August 3%
See the trend?
And as a physician I know that "science" can mislead. These "scientific" surveys are done among the following group: registered republicans who voted in a prior election and have home phones.
That excludes all the disenchanted liberals who are flogging to his banner, all the independents who were too burnt out with crooked politicians to vote, all his supporters who were too young to vote previously and don't want to get drafted to fight and everyone who has given up "home phones" and gone purely cellular.
In addition, the last survey I saw showed 18% of republicans (even as narrowly surveyed above)  against the war and the number growing daily. Who else do they have to vote for?
Can he win the nomination? Only time will tell.
Interestingly enough though his BEST chance to win the presidency may be if you get your way and Guliani wins the nomination.
Around one-third of republicans say they will NEVER vote for ANY "pro-choice" candidate. While that is the one issue on which I DISAGREE with Paul, he can take that third of the republicans, scortch Hilary for her undeniable pro-Iraq war voting record and run against politics as usual to win a three way race.
You have to realize that almost HALF of the eligible voters didn't bother to vote in the last presidential election because they thought both candidates liars and crooks.
Many of those will vote for an honest, principled candidate (Paul) if they can.

Camille: So ask yourself how ONE candidate can attract the young, the old, the Christian and  the atheist (like me). Simple: individual liberty. Someone who defends it (like Ron Paul does) is the hero to all who believe in live and let live.
(Abortion is a complicated UNIQUE case, sadly, on which I disagree with the good doctor).

MasterDoc, that's one reason I like Ron Paul and will vote for him, his philosophy of non-intervention.
The U.S. needs to stop acting like an Empire.
We simply can't afford it anymore.
I don't agree with everything Ron Paul has to say but I think he's far better than the other candidates as far as following our Constitution.

The puzzling thing to me is that we are supposedly interested only in national DEFENSE, NOT aggression. Yet we spend MORE  on our military than the next 10 countries COMBINED do.
Does that make ANY sense?

MasterDoc, I agree, we've had Troops in S. Korea for 56 years now!
When is enough enough?
And we have Troops in more than 130 countries.
That's tremendously expensive!
That kind of stuff needs to end.

Isolationism was attempted in the 1920s... It just doesn't work. It doesn't save lives. It doesn't stop wars. And it doesn't help the economy.

A lot of people think by making cuts in military budget and abolishing the UN and NATO that America's budget will balance... That might be true in the short term, but the economy may go into depression. The United Nations has about as many people on their payroll as McDonalds. And the Pentagon also has a very heavy payroll. If all these people are suddenly laid off, unemployment will go up. Not only that but if the Pentagon is spending less money on military supplies, those contractors start going under and those factories start laying off as well. There are many towns across the country that are basically military towns. If those military bases close due to budget cuts, those towns will suffer severely.
To make it worse, Ron Paul wants to at the same time slash unemployment and welfare benefits.

He wants to also abolish the IRS...which I wouldn't mind...but again....another heavy payroll.

He's on his way to crashing the stock market. He wants to do reforms that would need to take generations to accomplish along with a major political movement supporting it. This isn't something that can be flipped on a dime. Even if Paul was elected, he would accomplish nothing. Because congress will be against practically all of his agenda....especially a Democrat-congress that is in love with big government.

Still doesn't make it anymore accurate. It excludes alot of voters. Actually yers I do think some of them will vote for him and perhaps you should grab your dictonary and look up the difference between isolation and neutrality. There is a big differnce. Minding our own bussiness is not isolating us from the world.

Actually it does make it far more accurate.  You are welcome to pretend otherwise.  I am sure you will see a huge conspiricy, when the actuall primary turns out close to the real polls, instead of your call in and vote as many times as you want if you feel like it poll.  But that is because you are swallowing Bullshit, and pretending that Ron has far more support than he actually does.  You made the calim that the libertarians are going to register as republicans to vote for him, and screw up our primary.  But run the numbers, if every single Libertarian were to do that, he would get a bump of 2-3% of the vote

Ignorance such as you are showing is what is destroying our nation.  Its freaking Math, and basic logic.  Read more, less You Tube.
