Age doesn't necessarily impart wisdom. It should, but it often doesn't. Youth almost never does, although there are some who are wise beyond their years.

Likewise, there are some retain their youthfulness well into their later years, and I'm talking about physical appearance and health as well as spirit.

I think what you (the OP) is saying is that just because I am only 23 years old doesn't mean I can't, for example, be a better spanker than someone in their 40's. In fact I'm positive I am. I don't care how old you are; talent, skill, willingness to learn, AND number of hours of experience with one particular activity ALL are factors in experience.

I get sick of people assuming that because I am only 23, and new to a particular section of the BDSM community/play party, that I am inexperienced. Thanks, I have more experience under my belt than half the people there, including (and especially) the ones over 50.

I guess I just get sick of the proverbial patting of the head when people see I'm 23, and of getting told that at 23 I cannot possibly have as much experience as I claim (~4 years, if we don't include the couple years of soul searching and denial with few play dates in the middle of it). I lost my virginity at 16, but was Domming at 14 though I didn't know what it was called then.

However... I also agree with Celeste that being with people close to my age-range is important to me, from the world-influences angle. I don't assume that someone my age is more or less experienced than the guy 10 years older, but despite the fact that I get along great with people 20 years older than me, I'd rather not date them. Just a personal preference.

I miss the days when people told me I couldn't have any idea what I was talking about. Kinda like getting carded at a bar- makes you feel young.

Oddly enough years later I'm saying the same things, when, years ago I was an uppity know it all, and now somehow I'm a "wise for my age" chica?

It is what it is. Everyone kept saying I thought I knew everything which was hysterical considering how often I said I didn't know things or that they needed to figure things out for themselves.

I loved the double standard- when you're young, you can't know anything but you think you do, and when you're old, you're supposed to realize you don't really know anything. Frankly, NONE of my friends in college thought they knew everything, we were pretty freaked out and worried growing up in a horrific world past generations had thrust upon us.

So somehow, no one really is ever able to say "Yes, I know shit" and be taken seriously.

The fact is, the more you bitch and whine about people putting you down for your age, the more immature it makes you look. I can get you the links for all the times people tried to get me shut down due to my age here. IT DOESN'T MATTER. People who resort to the age card simply have nothing to stand on. The only way to win is NOT to play.

And I did get a fair bit of amusement when I became the chair of the board and all those peeps who said a younger person couldn't know anything suddenly had to ask my permission before speaking at meetings.
