This post is about rude individuals annoying others, who happen to use a loud motorcycle to do so, not against bikers in general by any means.

Curious: that side of the thread is achieved. We all know that many bikers are inconsiderate and loud pipes  are a nuisance.
Elements who behave selfishly are present in all interest  groups therefore the thrust of the thread  is not "biker bashing". No argument really.

If you are really pissed at loud exhausts and you can get evidence, you can at least in Britain get the toe-rags fined. Of course to do that you're going to have to be a bit of an obsessive but the noise control laws are there to use.

Actually get a Japanese superbike and they ziiiing! rather than brruuum! so its usually the all mouth and no trousers glitter and sparkle brigade that make the nuisance.

You know, if yop had wished rap singers dead because you hated their music i would have found that just as offensive and i hate rap music.

You want to wish a rapist, a murderer, a terriorist dead have at it. Wishing somebody dead because they annoyed you?

I've got to agree with Curiouslord here, it would be easy for this to turn into a biker bashing thread.
Mudd

With your intial post reposted below, you already did that.

" It's about intimidation and a sense of turf. There are riders who seriously believe that people in traffic around them will hear those loud pipes, and be so intimidated, that it will cause them to hang up their cell phones and make way. The annoying guy on the loud bike, waking you up at night honestly believes that when you hear those pipes, your thinking about how awesomely strong and virile he must be. Add to this the mentality of post pubescent youth and a bit of alcohol, then things like, courtesy and personal comfort become essentially non issues"

If that was not biker bashing you have a seriously screwed up way of delivering a compliment.

You do realize that, if a particular rapper took an amp and plugged it in right outside of my room and cranked it up, for the sheer sake of annoying me, I'd be pretty much saying the same thing, right?

It's not that I wouldn't like his rap.  It's that I wouldn't like the fact that he's maliciously harrassing a bunch of people.

He was talking about the annoying ones with loud pipes, not all bikers.

You mean Harley riders are wuss's that have to wait for nice weather to ride?

Some do, others do not. Personally one of my favorite forms of riding is ice racing. But it is hard to resist taking a putt on such a great fall day.

Wow, so anybody who annoys you should curl up and die? Bit of an ego there hmmm.....

As far as Mudd is concerned, i have always run straight pipes on each and every Harley i have ever built or rode. I like the sound. And living in the country like i did for most of my life i can tell you the deer turned and ran back across the fields, not in front of my bike.

As far as running straight pipes to make me feel intimidating, nope. To make people think i was virile and manly, well that would be quite a trick considering my sex.

The guys annoying you at night, go talk to him.

As nice as you and Mudd have tried to come back from it, both of your initial posts were pretty much biker bashing.

What part am i misunderstanding? The part where you wished a biker to crash and die so you would have quiet or the part where you accuse bikers in general of riding loud bikes to personally annoy you and the rest of the world?

"I still hear that loud, irritating grinding from motorcycle engines.  To be honest, I keep hoping to hear one of them crash into a pole so I can have some silence; do they not care that people are trying to sleep?  Are they only thinking of themselves when they get those damn things that subject anyone near them to that noise?  Is it part of the thrill- to simply annoy people as they go. "

I would say TwiceHappy is intrepretting your, be they however laboriously presented, opinions and positions quite accurately. You present a problem, then rather than present a solution or ask for input, you wish the alleged cause dead.  I find your posts annoying to read, and despite that, due to my lack of being YOU, do not wish you dead.

See how easy that is:

State the problem:  Your posts, writing style, and opinions annoy me

Pose possible solutions:
1) block you (not really my style)

2) stay out of the forums (alot more my style, but was personally invited to this thread as being applicable, and got hooked in)

3) personally attack your immaturity, obstinance, and general annoyingness (again, not really my style, but hey, if it's in the name of my personal greater good....)

4) attempt to have you banned from the forums for annoying myself and others (similar to a ban against motorcyclists hmmm)

5) Wish you dead, along with all the other things and people who annoy me, after all that is of the least inconvenience to me, who cares if you supposedly have rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, or whatever it is where you're at.

Bottom line:  You claim to have "grown up" but it appears to me you still have alot of that to do.

OK, haven't read thru all this yet, but hey, noise is a by-product of life....get over it.  You say you live in an area surrounded by 4 streets, however, I see no mention of the rude and inconsiderate jackasses who have their stereos turned up so loud the car NEXT to them rattles on it's axles.  That is far more rude than someone gunning their motorcycle in traffic.  They sit in our lot here and turn their crap on with absolutely NO respect for anyone else around them.  Fortunately, management here doesn't take any crap from anyone, and they have no problem at all ejecting offenders from the lot, and the complex.

Having just bought my first scooter, yeah, it's only 150cc's, but I've had it up to 60....I can now say the bug for two wheels has bitten me big time!  I've has two "oh shit!" moments, both caused by idiots in cars who just weren't paying attention to the road.  I plan on upgrading to a "real" bike after the new year, and can't wait!

And are the people on the bikes really gunning it, or just simply walking up thru the gears?  A Harley is loud, even when it's sitting still and turned off , but you have to accelerate to shift just as people with their big straight pipes on 4 wheeled vehicles....where is the complaint about that?  I hear more kids gunning their engines for absolutely no reason in their little "angry bee in a bottle" cars than I hear any motorcyclist doing the same.  BTW, can someone explain to me why kids put straight pipes on a 4 banger????  Hence the "angry be in a bottle" name.....cuz that's what they sound like!  Kind of wimpy if you ask me!

Get a white noise machine if the noise bothers you.....motorcycles probably aren't the only issues you have, just the one you're focused on right now....if you don't want to pay for one of those, just get a fan.....that's what I use, and I sleep during the day, so I know how to beat noise.....try ear plugs as suggested.....or hey...move to a quieter place.  But again, noise is just a fact of life, and living in a city, it will only get worse before it gets better.

Hey People,

Ease up on Curious. There is a big difference between wishing someone was dead and going out locked and loaded and shooting every biker with loud pipes in sight. So he's ranting a fantasy thought, big deal, doesn't make him a biker killer.

I can imagine that at one time or another we have all wished someone had already met their maker. Sanity is the difference between having a good fantasy along those lines and actually carrying it out. Can you really say you have never done the same?

Those mopeds are really irritating and sound like mosquitoes. Have you noticed how when they get in front of you they take up the whole of the road and slow you down? Damn it!

well, I try NOT to slow anyone down.....myself, I have a blatant disregard for the posted seed limit!  I have noticed that folks don't like to be passed by me on my little scooter!  They will speed up when I try to go around them just to get in front of me, and when I drop back where I was, they slow down again all over!  I have to do about 55 just to keep from being rolled over as it is.....and the max speed limit is 45 mph.  Mine is actaully relatively quiet, both at the idle and accelterated speeds.  No skeeters here!

Having read more of the responses here, I will say that I have definitely learned how to be even MORE defensive on the road.....people coming in from the right side streets, idiots making left turns, and don't even get me started on idiots with cell phones!!!!  I wear my helmet religiously, even tho it leaves me with helmet hair....I'd rather have flat hair than a flat skull!!  My scooter is bright yellow, and people will look right at me, and still pull out in front of me!  So far, I stick to city surface streets, even tho the scooter is DOT rated, and the speedometer goes to 80mph.....I don't have a death wish!  Can't wait to get a bigger bike.....looking at the Shadow or V-star.....have friends that have the shadows, and they love 'em!  On a side note.....was outside the other night, heard what I thought was a low-flying plane, (live in the flight paths of the airport), and nothing was in the sky...it was a group of about 20 Harleys going down the street....OMG!!!!!   Never thought I'd get hot and bothered by a machine, but DAMN...there's no other sound like that in the world!  Ya gotta love it!

If you had read the thread you would have found that those annoyances and others had been catalogued. If you want to add original arguments to a thread it helps to do your research.

Since you raised the "the world is noisy, get over it" argument again I will provide the response, again. We are not talking about general levels of noise associated with daily and necessary activities - we are talking about people who, through ignorance or insensitivity, create noise out of proportion to their needs and in ways calculated to annoy and disrupt the lives of others. With six billion people in the world it seems we need to find ways to share the space we have rather than stealing the well being of others to feed egos.
