And here I thought it was a sadists warning to the recalcitrant slave.

Well, that too...

I hope you both have a good Thanksgiving.

Faith is a difficult item to have and hold, Lawrence. Mine is intact, but has many bruises....

Do you think it is possible for someone to have 'faith' in God (or your deity or religion of choice) and live a BDSM lifestyle at the same time?If so how do you reconcile the two ?
I can`t wait to hear what folks say to this one .

I am comming in late to this tread.. and have not read what others posted yet...

I have a very strong faith in God. I have since I was very young. I go to church.. ( in fact I have a Turkey in my oven I am taking to my church today to eat dinner with our congregation. I love them dearly and spend every moment I can at my church. )

I go to a UU church a realy good one. UU is Unitarian Universalist. Basicaly we take anybody... Pagans, Jewish, Muslim, ex communicated Catholics, open Gays, *Anybody*. My church knows that my girl is my wife.. and that I have others who join us occasionaly who are also involved in our realtionship. They still love and welcome us and our son. I have never seen them look down on any one. It is easy to reconcile my life, and my lifestyle and still go to church when I do not have to hide who I really am. Even with out such a great church I still knew before I found them that no matter what XYZ church says you should believe God, Father, or what ever you want to call your deity of choice loves us all, and does not care who, or how we love.. as long as there *is* love.. and we are not hurting one another. ( non consentual you all know what I mean)

The soul and how you relate to your creator/ix is so personal why would you let anyone make you feel bad about who you are.. how you love, or whom you chose to love.

It may be that I see myself as a Sensual, loving and caring Domme who tries to enhance and teach her subs that I do not find an issue with this all. If I were just looking for a house cleaning and a licked punanni I might feel different. I am not sure.

But my Father (God) as I know him takes no issue with what I am doing.

Wish you all well and peace on this holiday.

Gwyn

[...]I would not be able to accept the concept of devine forgiveness[...]letting JC take the fall is a cowards way out[...]

This is one area where my interpretation differs from the more orthodox Christian theologies:

God is not there to forgive you.
JC is not there to take the fall for you.
Absolution is a catharsis for those who need it.
The point is redemption; not forgiveness, and not sin.
You try. You fail. You get back up. And you keep on trying.
Eventually, you will get it right, if you don't dwell on past mistakes.
Nothing will wipe away your past, the things you have done, or didn't do.
But the future is where you will spend the rest of your life, so just get on with it.
The problem is when you don't realize you failed, or when you don't care that you did.
And if that is the case, you would not be asking anyone for forgiveness anyway, would you?
Forget sin and the laws of the beurocratic Levites, along with Paul and Peter.
Abandon the artificial notions of forgiveness, absolution and so forth.
Seize your free will, and the accountability that goes with it.
Perfect your own soul by your own will and effort.
It is an open-ended journey, not a destination.
The soul needs a process, not a product.
In the end, only you can choose.

God can't live your life for you.

Health,
al-Aswad.

Aswad-

Of course, one's beliefs are ones beliefs-

but I don't think you can re-interpet christainity and still call it christainity (though I don't know what esle you'd call it). For some reason, I do believe in orthodoxy.

Stay warm,
Lawrence

Lawrence,

If one cannot reinterpret Christianity and still call it that, then, if I'm right, there is exactly one Christian alive today. That hardly seems correct, or even remotely viable, to me. And if I'm wrong, then the Catholics are the only Christians out there, since pretty much every other Christian church is a branch on that tree. Protestants come to mind as perhaps the best example of this. Would you say that Protestants are not Christians, as it seems you do?

For that matter, one cannot avoid reinterpreting it; it's the nature of the beast: language.

I used to believe in orthodoxy... then I started looking closer, and found that it didn't hold, particularly giving the growing fondness I had found for rational thought. After a while, I had pretty much dismantled everything, and found that there was something in the foundation that wasn't right. At that point, I had a bit of a revelation, and corrected what I see as a flaw in the foundation, something lost in transmission. Then it all made rational sense.

Of course, if I'm wrong, and orthodoxy is right, I'll prolly stay very warm.

Health,
al-Aswad.
