Oh I knew that was what he was talking about, and I stated that I made
my point on that thread and left that thread before it got heated.

THEN I created this thread to ask how people handle situations that could
easily get very confrontational.
There was no reason for me to go into the details of what upset me on another
thread, the point IS, the thread upset me, I posted and left it.
Now, how do you handle posts or posters that upset you?

Constantly announcing one is taking the high road generally is just another form of the low road.

Well, it depends on how you look at it.
People announce all sorts of things, we have a right to say and announce whatever we want.
Thank GOD this is America.
I am taking the high road.

*steps in*

Can we please stop pretending that the world is sugar to make ourselves feel better?

I sometimes agree with LA, sometimes not, and sometimes just toss a playful banter her way.  In this case she has it bang on.

You, MzMia, have repeated the high road phrase over and over.  I feel like I am being subjected to Doctor Phil, and that happens to offend me.

Let's be clear on one thing:  I'm not trying to condemn you for your outlook.  I strongly disagree with it, though.  For one:  -this- *looks around* where I am, is Canada.  There are some Europeans and Australians here as well, if you hadn't noticed.  Thanking God that this is America, to me - a non-religious non-American - is highly insulting.  I don't want to delvolve into any debate about religion here, I'm just saying that your commentary is inappropriate - to me.

That leads to my second point.  No two people can view the exact same thing the exact same way.  Even if they agree on one facet of the whole, they may have different motivations for doing so.  If you enjoy history, you know that disagreement and debate are rife in the past, and more often than not, it serves a purpose.  Questioning makes us wiser.  Arguing with passion allows us to express the fervency of our beliefs.  To touch back for a second...you might feel strongly about Jesus and God.  This former minister's son does not.  Nor would I take kindly to any flambuoyant display of "God is great", were it to be thrust in my face - yet a person who -is- fervent about God, who feels happy and one with the Universe, might very well cross that line.  N'est pas?  So not only does verbal debate strengthen views, the strength of said views can also step on toes...

...which is hardly, as you have termed it, the high road, and ultimately encourages the very forms of expression you are repressing.

That's my third point.  I'm also not big on censorship.  Others have covered that here adequately, and you have chosen to ignore them in favour of your own view - I believe the term for that is "passive aggressive".

And to address your OP directly - your colour and your age are labels, nothing more.  They are part of who you are.  If someone makes a derisive remark to you about either, you have full control of how that affects you.  Not addressing the slight is not always the only way, nor is is the better or best way under all circumstances.  Crude as it may sound, if women didn't speak up, where the hell would feminism be today?  Or slaves, for that matter?  So would I take the high road?

*reads back*

Guess that's a hell no.  I wouldn't advise that you try to convince others to do the same, either.  It's one thing to lead yourself down the primrose path, quite another to try and coerce others to join you.  Someone could get hurt by only turning the other cheek.

Hopefully, you read this and address it with something less condescending than was levelled at others.  I highly doubt it, because I have little faith in passive aggressive people to be open and blunt.  It's not in their nature.  Failing that, I hope someone else reads this and understands that what you're offering is not what it seems.

Wow...awesome statement.  I think that says it all.

edited to add:  I truly think that sometimes some forget this is an INTERNATIONAL community, and therefore sometimes is subject to different interpetations of opinion by virtue partially of that alone.

Sanity I agree, and with the many wonderful people here that live to and enjoy
pushing buttons, If we want to play in the Collarme sand box, I don't see how you
can play... without getting dirty.

I still say you can play, get down and dirty, make your point and walk away.

I have seen many cases here where people go way over the top, and end up in moderation.
Maybe taking the high road for many, is staying out of moderation?

Does anyone else see the irony in two people playing out their disagreement, carrying it over to a thread about taking the high road

Velvet I am glad you caught that one.
That was a case of someone trying to play an online interrogation scene.
Did you enjoy it?
You have been around here long enough to know that the "fun" bunch will show up,

and want to play.

That's one of the condescending jabs that you alluded to here right?

ORIGINAL: MzMia
I can still get a few jabs in and take the high road.
If I don't say something, I will end up being road kill for those like you.

At least some of us are honest about it..........
**thinks she needs to share her map when she buys it  so that the above two posters can look for the high road just like the ones being accused**

Sheesh, I'm gonna read past here, but as of this post I am not answering any more on this thread.  I'm sure the OP and possibly others have addressed the responses I have made, and I'm SURE they took the high road with their replies( I don't know, I am actually going in order on this thread)

So saying in advance, although I am sure there will be more comments on this thread......I AM TAKING THE HIGH ROAD ON THIS THREAD AND AM NOT MAKING ANY COMMENTS ON ANYTHING AFTER POST 89....anything else I would say would be redundant.  The posters above that are so judgemental about taking high roads have taken the same low path on this thread as others, and as such no matter how much I want to comment on their answers to me that I am pretty sure are probably later in this thread, as I am coming to this at 4-5 pages long, I will not stoop low to answer.  After all, I am going to try to do what the OP is doing,(no, not pot calling the kettle black) taking the high road.

edited to add:  I will say I was wrong, there were no snarky remarks to my comments, which were not intended to be snarky either.  As for the rest, I'm still not getting back on this thread, I think my comments and opinions on it will offer nothing further to the thread.  Have a wonderful weekend everybody!

Before I step out for a few, I want to say this.
I really enjoy being here on CollarMe, that means taking the good with the bad.
It is a free site, and anyone can join or post here unless or until they get moderated.

The "High Road" can be whatever road that you need to take, to be able to express yourself,
and leave with a shred of dignity.
There are plenty here that enjoy life on the "low road", who will happily goad you, belittle you,
attempt to embarass you, etc.
I don't think you have to ignore all the low roaders to stay on the higher road.
You can say what you need to see the low roaders and get back on the high road as soon as possible.

I think I have learned Mia's "High Road" on Collar ME, will be speaking her mind within limits,
making her points, standing up for herself, and enjoying this community.
....That said I will speak up for myself, and take the Highest Road I consider comfortable, in order to not be put on moderation!
Happy Holidays to all....and Happy New Year!

Peace out

A quick thought; just because someone makes their point, and does not post further, does not make it the "high road".

Agreed. Just like in real-life conversations, there are different "types".. the talkers, the listeners, and those who interject a comment in there just for the hell of it.

I personally don't feel obligated to respond to everything directed my way, and I have no problem ditching an online debate, either. Not because it's this vague "high road" concept, more like I just don't want to be bothered.

This is my take on it all: If I get offended, annoyed, or otherwise rubbed the wrong way by what is posted here, then it's my problem to deal with, not theirs. Most times it's the best course of action to just let it go because online squabblies over whatever that drag on for 3 or 4 pages just aren't worth my time. And since I'm not exactly Little Miss Perfect Poster by any stretch ( as prone to miscommunication or thoughtlessness as anybody else), it would be hypocritical to call somebody out like that, anyway.

Message boards, in general, could do with a bit more Patience Potion, lol. Maybe add a dash of "Lighten up, man", too. =)

Not just announcing... starting a whole thread dedicated to how you are taking the high road!
C~

Actually, {repeating this for at least the 5th time here}, for those with poor reading comprehension skills.
I asked several questions on this thread, THAT'S what it is about.
Do you try to take the high road, the low road or no road on collarme?
Also, so I don't need to announce it anymore, I added it to my signature line last night for folks like you.

Oh yes, my poor reading comprehension involves not noticing this paragraph in your original post - post #1 on the thread (which DOES announce that you are taking the high road):

I did get a tiny bit nasty, but then I attempted to take the "high road", and decided to not
respond or even keep reading that thread because it could have become ugly.

I'm not sure i take the high road, but i do know a lot of my replies are more reserved than i would be normally. I tend to be very opinionated and my opinions can be quite harsh. I try to curb them a little here.

Having read this thread a few times and having read the thread wherein allegedly this OP was offended and declared such and seeing NOTHING at that point about race or age that was remotely offensive and having read all her conspiracy theories about some sort of collective attempt to embarass her on cm, and her responses which in no way denote a person coming even remotely close to taking the high road in fact insulting two posters for their age which was what she originally complained about (irony is great), I have to conclude she needs to step away from the egg nog and get a grip.

Yeah yeah it's a run-on sentence, it's just not important enough to edit it.

Actually I am, after reading a paragraph of insults and putdowns.
I took a very high road, imagine what I could have said!
Believe me....saying "whatever" to someone asking for it, is taking the high road.

I think the problem lies in the fact that you seem to see everything that isn't genuflecting as an insult of putdown.  I had no intention to put you down and I'm not really sure how someone that's just on the internet could actually do that to another person.  I was merely restating what you were doing on this and the other thread.  If you will recall, I did ask you specifically in this thread what the exact issue was, which you declined to answer.  You don't get to shove at everyone and whine that everyone else is unfair to you when you in fact are not fair to others.  Life just doesn't work that way.  You get what you put out.  Your high road needs serious maintenance, it's pretty damn low.

the poor fools listening to me?  do you know how paranoid that sounds?  what adults here do you think I somehow have brainwashed to think poor innocent you isn't so innocent?  They're bored internet surfers and you are amusing with your self-proclamations that aren't remotely close to true.  It's not a conspiracy.
