Emotional eating definitely plays into it, laurel. Believe it or not, too many carbs can actually play into the emotional mood swings, too. I'd have never believed it if I did not live it myself... While not true for everyone- some people just can't handle that many carbs anymore, but their bodies crave them- and the more they eat- the more they crave. Which tends to lead to an overall feeling of sluggishness, lack of energy, and other physical symptoms- all of which help to ~keep~ a person down. It's really hard to eliminate carbs in the beginning. It's like going through withdrawal- but is it ever worth it! Within days (to a couple of weeks) you will stop craving the carbohydrates- you will feel better, have more energy, and just a better overall outlook. It's hard to believe- but, it's true...and from the research I have done, and the testimonials I have read, it's true for many, MANY people. MsBearlee and bebe- what is considered 'low carb' is highly subjective. While bebe's carb intake is low compared to the average American diet- it's much higher than some folks on Atkins or Dr. Bernstein's low carb diabetic diet would ever consider eating. Like so many other things in life, ymmv...and it all depends on your body, your metabolism, and why you are looking to eat this way. For me, right now, I try to limit my morning carbs to about 6- and my other meals at about 12-15 a piece, with a few thrown in for snacks along the way. 45 carbs is a 'high carb' day- for ~me~. There may come a time when I add more back in, then again, maybe not. It all depends on what my body can handle. And, quite honestly, I can eat like royalty on 45 carbs a day...
