Whilst it's unforgivable to be cruel to pets, I can understand that some people forget about their responsibilities when they loose their homes. Not that it makes it okay, but it certainly explains it.

Sure, just like it's understandable that, sometimes, parents have had a rough day and drown their kids in the tub, and about as mitigating.

And I'm certainly horrified that some are calling for their murder. What's the matter with you?!!!

Some people support the death penalty; if it is to be applied, I see no problem with suggesting that it be applied in this case; not that I support the penalty itself, just saying this ranks up there with the commonly proposed uses of it, IMO.

Health,

That's probably going to get one of my Best Posting Subject Line awards for 2008.

Here's to hoping all the animal cyber vigilantes spitting so much vitriol on message boards across the internet are religiously devout vegans.

The government enabled loan sharks - for that is what banks are - to offer these vulnerable people mortgages. It is slavery pure and simple.

These vulnerable people knew what they were getting into at the time.  Nobody held a gun to them and forced them to do anything.  Even -if- it's the Govt's fault...as you say.

It doesn't change the fact that leaving animals behind to die is still their fault.

Just my opinion, again.

Well, I find this bloodlust disturbing to say the least. So, people fuck up, badly. They loose their house, they loose their shit, and they fuck up by abandoning their pets.

Yes, it's wrong, irresponsible, cruel, even. But to call for their ritualised, barbaric murder is bordering on insane. Wake up, peeps.

PS: Aswad, I think you're wrong, but that's not a surprise :-) . The law certainly doesn't equate a human life with an animal life; and I'm not going to divert the thread on to a debate about the death penalty.

PPS: note, nowhere am I defending these people's actions. I just want to make this clear.

yes i agree..but its the persons fault who bought the house to begin with.  income was obviously not good enough.  or they are spending it on other things.
people who are not responsible for their own lives...should not own any pets!

It may be their fault, but not for the reasons you list.  Things may have been great, then illness strikes, disability, work shortages, a million things can happen that cause people to become in dire straights and cause them to lose their home.

I do blame them. You know whether or not you are able to take care of animals. The government can do nothing about stupid people and generally does nothing to "ensure that their people are taken care of and that they are not preyed upon"

But maybe thats just here in Florida ><

i agree it is a gray area...but then again if its happening so often like this is sounding i dont think it has to do with anything other than not making enough $.
also it is true that someone could have got fired...(you left that option out)

Churro..she's gorgeous! :)

I'm with whoever said the critter food goes in the basket first.  I can eat at work, so if I'm short on funds, the cats (and fish) get their  stuff , and I'll eat at work until I get paid again.
I've made arrangements for the care of my charges in the event of....

There's no excuse for abandoning pets like that.

You are taking words a little too literally. No one is actually advocating murder, for goodness sake. They are the words of people who are frustrated and feel impotent at the lack of consequences when they inflict this kind of suffering on those that are entrusted to their care. So yes, people, including myself, are going to shout 'Hang the bastards!', would I actually follow through? Of course not, I would much rather work at getting the laws changed to ensure people that break such laws are made accountable in FULL for their actions.

i quite agree with this.

People can, on day one, be employed and making great money at a job they've been at for a decade and, in this economy, on day two be unemployed and trying to just SURVIVE (food, heat).

That doesn't mean that the homeowner should have abandoned their pet, there are shelters you can take an animal to so that they don't suffer, or starve.  There's no excuse for what these particular people did to their pet.

But there are many different reasons one can lose a home, being irresponsible is only one of hundreds, most of which, are out of the homeowner's hands. No one buys a house and WANTS to lose it.

I think I'll stand with the "I'll respectfully disagree" crowd on this one.

I'd be completely fine with public hanging, genital dismemberment, and of course, the logical follow on of their Mother standing in front of their rotting corpse holding a very large sign for absolute public display stating "What the FUCK were you THINKING????....I never Loved you, you piece of unadulterated human sewage!"

(But that's just me).

Of course there can be many reasons as to why these people lost their home, but as you said, the homeowners should not have left their home with a 'fuck you' attitude to the world... including their pet. I certainly do not place pets on the same level as humans, infact, most pets are better behaved and pigs certainly treat us as equals - with just cause. Having rescued abandoned animals in the past, keeping the two I still have today (almost 15 years later), and having to have put to sleep those that were beyond due care and the only thing at hand to ease their suffering was euthanasing them, I have nothing but contempt for people that deliberately cause the suffering of animals.

Sure, they did know what they were getting into and at the time it was doable. Then circumstances changed, they broke a leg, got fired the USA decided to attack and invade some muslim countries and got into debt to do that, and those people could no longer meet their bills. The fact is that banks provide mortgages for their own gain. These people were destitute to begin with.

the only people who can afford a house like that in california are RICH people.
actors, actresses, lawyers, musicians..etc.  california is not a good place if your poor.  no wonder they are having lots of closures.  some places are what $1000 per month just for electricity??? scary shit.  i was visiting in SF a few months and the people i stayed with lived in a dump and they were paying TONS for it.

Um...."rich people" and "Stockton" do not belong in the same sentence, unless you're saying "There are no rich people in Stockton."

I doubt anyone is paying $1000/month for electricity in Stockton.  A lot of people were moving to Stockton because it's between Sacramento and the Bay Area, and affordable.

And yes, SF rents and mortgages are sky high...because it's SF.  Probably close to the economic scale in New York.

And anyone who leaves a creature with a central nervous system abandoned to starve to death is inhumane in my book.  And I'm not a religious vegan.

Griswold, you're clearly thinking along the wrong lines... the BEST revenge in such a situation is knowing that she's someone else's problem now, and not yours

So celebrate, burn your underwear... Liberate the little man and cry 'FREEEEDOM!'

Knowing what I know about her...as well as a little about the New Mr. Gris...I'd have to concur :)
