I remember ... my mom bringing home our first (and for a very long time, last)  computer. She couldn't figure out how to use it, but me and my brother were always on it. Until the day she got mad boxed it back up and sent it back.
I remember ... schools teaching lots of stuff instead of teaching to pass standardized tests.
I remember ... school library ban lists and how unfair I thought it was when Shel Silverstein put on it.
I remember ...  going out to play and not coming in til way after dark and no one worrying.
I remember ...  45's and 78's  and hunting the whole house for a new needle.
I remember ... Star Wars being the best in Hollywood technology.
I remember ... penny candy that was really a nickel in my time.
I remember ... Holly Hobbie, Raggedy Ann and Andy, Mrs. Beasley, tinker toys, hula hoops, slinky's, light brite and lincoln logs.
I remember ... Don Kirshner's Rock Concert and Saturday Night Special with Wolfman Jack.

I remember when
...I could call my Mom when I was leaving for a friends house, and then one time agian when I got there and she knew I arrived safe. We didnt have to talk the whole way there on a cell phone.
...A big group of kids could get bored, and actually find ways to keep themselves busy outdoors for hours and hours on end, even if it was cold
...If I were out of touch for hours and hours on end, my parents assumed I was out playing, not missing
...When it was really warm out, you headed to either see the friend with the sprinklers in their yard, or the one who lived on a dead end street so you could play your games on the blacktop without being interrupted by traffic.
...Calling your friends to play meant standing under their window and screaming until they heard you, not phoning them.
...You refered to every friends family as if they were your own and no one worried about that being innapropriate.
...Sitting on one anothers laps meant there were no more seats available and you were NOT going to be the only one standing. You never even considered touching someone...there?!? IIIIWWWW
...You only wore your bike helmet until Mom was out of view
...You drank whole milk, drank tap water and real egges and butter, and lived to tell the tale.
...The modem for a computer had a cradle to lay your phone in, you had to dial the number on the handset and it ran at a blazing 2600 baud.
...You often dialed this modem number on a rotary phone
...Web pages were not allowed as references on school projects becasue the information could not be "verified"

I remember when a contractor could demolish a building, find toxic chemicals and just take them to the dump...20 bucks a truck load.

I remember when you were finished painting your house...you could just pour the leftover paint thinner right down your kitchen sink.

Ahhhh....the good old days.
