For some reason your post jogged my memory of when the movie "Fritz the Cat" came out!!
Does anyone remember that?

Spring of 1972...went to the first showing in town

Wonderful World of Walt Disney,

We watched that every Sunday, along with Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom.... "and now, my assistant Jim will stick his head by the lion's mouth..... go ahead, Jim."...... "Fuck off, Marlin!!" [:D]

I remember the 45s you could cut out of the back of cereal boxes, with Jackson 5 songs...... and getting 3D baseball cards inside Honeycombs cereal.

.... oh wow, yeah, block parties, cake walks,  party lines,

... divorce was uncommon

...penny candy was a penny

...Mr Green Jeans

...Dark Shadows ( the first one)

...school food smelled and tasted good

...M&M's didn't have peanuts

This thread is awesome....I had a "remember when" discussion with my Dom the other day (He's a bit older than me, so some of the things He mentioned I didn't know if I actually experienced them or saw it on Leave it to Beaver or Andy Griffith).

The things I remember:
8 track tapes
Woodywood Pecker
Felix the Cat
Richie Rich and Little Lotta comics
Mr. Rodgers
Bozo the Clown
Milk was delivered in glass bottles
Produce trucks
Everyone in the neighborhood looking out for each other's children
Penny candy (for 1 penny)
When Ricky and Lucy had separate beds but still had Ricky Jr. (???)
Playing until I was tired (not being too tired to play)

Oh my, I could go on, but I'm starting to feel nostalgic.

Top Cat!
The most effectual Top Cat!
Who's intellectual close friends get to call him T.C.
Providing it's with dignity.

Top Cat!
The indisputable leader of the gang.
He's the boss, he's a pip, he's the championship.
He's the most tip top,
Top Cat.

Yes he's a chief, he's a king,
But above everything,
He's the most tip top,
Top Cat.

Top Cat!
Song writing at it's best.

Whenkids could go through the whole neighborhood on Halloween and no one inspected or X rayed your candy and treats.
Going for Sunday drives because gas was cheap, the roads weren't crowded and there were huge stretches of land without houses, utility poles or people.
No seat belts in the cars.
The first enclosed mall built in Austin TX.  It was a marvel to us.....all the stores under 1 roof! Lol.
Going to the matinee on Saturday on the military post and buying a ticket, a small drink, a bag (brown paper at that lol) of popcorn and a giant Tootsie Roll for 30 cents.  Total entertainment for 3 hours.
When girls had to wear dresses to school except on cold days.  And the delight when the dress code was abolished my junior year of high school.

There were only two parks at Disney World.
Jem was the coolest hologram.
I had to use a quarter to make a phone call.
Carnation breakfast bars actually tasted good.
And this was my favorite toy     http://www.inthe80s.com/toys/sheraactionfigures0.shtml

SL4V3M4YB3 -> RE: I remember when (2/9/2008 12:01:32 PM)

I remember ... when a "crash" was something you did to your dad's car.

I remember ... when comic books cost 20 cents.

I remember ... banana seats.

I remember ... delivering newspapers at 6:00 AM, and seeing the milkman on his morning rounds.

I remember ... Nixon's "I am not a crook" speech, and my father laughing out loud.

I remember ... Skylab.

I remember ... standing in line to see Star Wars.

I remember ... Fuller Brush salesmen.

I remember ... metal bottlecaps on glass soda bottles.

I remember ... when the Big Mac first appeared, and it became a game to say all the ingredients in one sentence in under ten seconds.

I remember ... Nerf footballs.

I remember ... when "Staying Alive" came on the radio five times in one hour.

I remember ... playing in the street, and throwing frisbees.

I remember ... "Keep on Trucking", by R. Crumb.

I remember ... the free bookcovers that you could get at Baskin-Robbins ice cream parlors.

I remember ... when floppy disks were really floppy.

I remember ... when bugs were something you cleaned off the windshield.

I remember ... when a 2400-baud modem was "state-of-the-art"!

I remember ... shell accounts.

I remember ... when there was no internet, and you went to various bulletin-boards that people had on their computers, and you could log on to someone else's computer--they wanted you there! Now we fight to keep people out.
