As she straps herself into that piece of equipment you know she's going to kick some ass! It's a great scene. Thanks for reminding me about the Fisher king, great film!
quote:

ORIGINAL: philosophy
.....the scene from Aliens "Get away from her, you bitch"

.....the scene from Dark Star "I think therefore I am"

.....virtually any scene from The Fisher King, let's say the bit where Robin Williams's character wakes from his coma.

One of my favourites is the scene in Raging Bull where Jake gets to know Vicky.
The awkward handshakes at the swiimng pool.  The invitation to go for a drive and a game of miniature golf followed by a hesitant grope in his father's apartment.
All painfully true.  No real dialogue.

I may be wrong but I always imagine that method man De Niro would have avoided speaking to Cathy Moriarty until their characters actually met onscreen.

One of my favorite movies of all time, “Mrs. Brown”, with Judi Dench and Billy Connelly.

The Queen, upon forbidding John Brown to leave:  “I can not allow it, because I can not live without you.”

and, “You give me the strength to be who I must be.”

John Brown:  “When you didn’t even know I was there, all I ever thought about was you!”

The Queen:  “I am here even now, feeling desperate with the thought of losing you.”

A compilation, put to music:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GELcstDOj_0&feature=related

On a lighter note, I just saw this yesterday – Lilly Von Schtupp expressing how tired she is - Hilarious!!

Such a fabulous film, very underrated and Dame Judi Dench is, without doubt, one of the acting greats.

She is the epitome of class and power.  I was floored when Helen Hunt won best actress over her that year.
Check out what she does with this song; You can just feel her pain:

Now, the flip side..... scenes I hate. More of an archtype of a scene, perhaps. I call it The Clap. Generally, it's when someone gives a speech, designed to fire others up, and they're met by silence...... until there is a single hand clap..... slooooow at first, then clap................. clap.......clap.....clap...... then, often, other characters will look around at one another, getting that communal pass....... and they slowly begin to clap......... then others....... until finally, you've got more clap than a VD clinic.

Hate that.

One of my favourite film of all times is Mulholland Drive by David Lynch. Any Lynchian movie is beyond description, but there is a mine of scenes in the movie that make me shiver at the simple thought of them.

One of them is the love scene between Laura Harring and Naomi Watts - a beautiful scene, truly powerful and sensual and head spinning. When she says 'I'm in love with you' I thought I was going to collapse. WATCH this extract!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUwnSKJ3NU4

Of course the terrifying scene outside Winkie's still haunts me to this day.

Mulholland Drive - pure cinema.

It's so hard to narrow down the best parts of the best films but if I had to choose some of my absolute favorite ones, here they are:

from "A Few Good Men:"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hGvQtumNAY

from "Dead Poet's Society:"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8UL_9R_W-Y

from "Death Proof:"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uW-xobNVlpo

from "Mystic River:"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0a6qXegwVh8

from "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest:"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syPZZxxFCe0

There are so many great ones that I just couldn't find clips for (the end of "Shawshank Redemption," the end of the last court scene from "To Kill a Mockingbird," and many, many more.  But I loved all the ones above..........luci

Ah! The Fisher King! The moment when the movie turned totally magical for me was when Perri, following his love across the floor of Grand Central Station, the world suddenly turning into a dace floor...

Terry Gilliam is a wellspring of GREAT movie scenes:

Bruce Willis walking through a dead NY, looking like a Christmas tree inside his enviromental suit in 12 Monkeys...

Baron Munchausen escaping the turks in a balloon made of women's lingerie...

The Time Bandits escaping their cage in the Fortress of Ultimate Darkness...

Sam Lowry flying in his suit of armor, rescuing the damsel in distress in his Walter Mitty fantasies in the otherwise depressing Brazil...

Gilliam is on a par with George Pal, or Ray Harryhausen, in terms of coming up with images that honestly inspire, horrify and otherwise thrill.
