The ending scene in Lost in Translation when he finds her on the crowded street and whispers in her ear.

I loved that.  That was such a cool movie in so many ways.  Underrated in my opinion.

Okay, now that the thread has drifted a bit...

All the inside jokes in "Sky Captain and the World of Tomarrow"

Polly lifting lines from the Orson Wells panic broadcast as she describes the robots attacking the city over the phone...

Office #1138 where Proffessor Jennings has his lab.

Godzilla featured in the Japanese newspaper, with headlines about the attacks.

The mini elephant, being a direct reference to a Warner Bros. cartoon that featured a mini-pachederm.

Dex testing his disintigrator gun on a metal panel, a la "This Island Earth"

In the ice cave, you distinctly see the Thunderbird's "Iron Mole" in the far background.

Seeing "The Venture" on the ocean floor (with a huge cage still on its deck, ripped open) during the amphibious squadron attack... and the Titanic, and several other great shipwrecks of note.

And on and on...

The movie is filled with them!

Discerning film critics will sometimes differ.

Gives new meaning to the phrase, 'semiotics of film.'

this may not be the greatest however the following are imho the best intrepretion of Beatles' songs from Across the Universe:

a. Uncle Sam popping out of the poster to the soldiers carrying the Statue of Liberty at the end of She's So (Heavy)

b. Bono singing I Am the Walrus - oh yeah he's the walrus

c. Eddie Izzard singing For the Benefit of Mr. Kite (with the blue meanies)

d. the strawberry references during Strawberry Fields

The scene in Brokeback Mountain where Anne Hathaway is on the phone telling Heath Ledger what happened to Jake G.  Using only words and facial expressions you see her gradually understand everything about her life with Jake and what Heath meant to Jake.  Things that never added up but not enough for her to bother with all come together and she struggles to hold it together.  It is one of my favorite scenes of all time and shows the talent Anne has.  It is touching on so many levels but the worse part watching her you know she has no one to share it with and it is her knowledge to her dieing day.

The car chase scene in The French Connection.

Trinity's opening sequence in the Matrix.

Severin's fantasy whipping scene in Belle du Jour.

Marilyn's skirt flying up in Seven Year Itch.

The confession scene in Rebecca (Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine).  Beyond excellent!

The final scene in Primal Fear.

I must have missed it.

I remember in college I took a film appreciation class to fill up an easy elective and the professor talked about all the classics and we watched a few movies. But I remember him saying how that scene in Psycho is something film students still evaluate even today. There are people that break it down frame by frame and debate about it. What makes it scary? How did Hitchcock do it and make it so effective? And especially back in 1960 when it was made, this was a very terrifying scene despite how little is actually shown to the viewer.

This is from Blue Velvet.  The set up is Dorothy finds Jeffrey (a nice, gentle man) hiding in the closet when Frank shows up.  Frank is mean and nasty and mental.

Dorothy:: Hello, baby.
Frank:  Shut up! It's Daddy, you shithead! Where's my bourbon?

If you've not seen Blue Velvet, I recommend it.  It's a David Lynch film about the weird happenings in a seemingly normal town.
