ORIGINAL: popeye1250 ~ Fast Reply ~ Obama went up through Chicago ward politics he's already corrupt! Yes and no. I grew up in Chicago- 25 years there.... I can say yes AND no. Chicago politics is bizzarre, creative, extreme. The players are even entertaining. I doubt cities of 3 million, 8 million metro have LESS curruption. The difference is folks from Chicago are good at hunting it out- un-covering the corruption. Look at how many things the city can do. The deep tunnel project- you wont see that in New York. Skycrapers... the city that works, the city with big shoulders, the windy city..[referring to braggards when Chicago went after the worlds fair -assumadly NYC was the choice.] I miss the "can do" attitude. Now understand if Chicago was so great- I would still live there.... I dont. In fact I should have left alot sooner. The thing is- navigating Chicago politics is good training ground for anything that will be thrown at you. Particularly from the "Southside". Historically Chicago is Second City- an intense rivalry between it and New York. It refused the movie industry which then went to Hollywood. The 2nd city frame of reference should not be underestimated. thats what I am trying to say... So Ild say it is a wash- with somewhat an advantage of having the Chicago experience. It isnt pretty- nor is alot of life....
