Kudos dreamer for posting this and not backing down. A little note about male-bashing and male-bashing jokes -- personally I never engage in this behavior and I point it out when it is happening. If anything, it identifies the person doing the behavior as still VERY invested in the patriarchal system. Feminism is as much about finding freedom for men as finding freedom for women. I wish I had something snarky to say so that I don't sound so earnest.... but I found the earlier tone of this tread too "sterotypical" to get on the snark band wagon. I think the list is a good reminder for people (even if you disagree) who communicate on a message board. Oh, and thanks again for posting it. Edited to add: Oh, and I'll take the bait on the "why don't we ever talk about women who hate men" idea. This would be a good time to point out the idea of hegemony: 1: preponderant influence or authority over others 2 : the social, cultural, ideological, or economic influence exerted by a dominant group. The bottom line is that no matter how a person (woman or man) feels about men, men are still on top, their status doesn't change, they still retain power and control culturally. This is not about how individuals treat each other, this is about how institutions have adopted and maintain control through inequitable practices.
