My point is this. Try learning something before you bash it. There are more than One billion Catholics on Earth....so try to learn a bit.

Somnium,
I love to learn!

I was involved in the Catholic Church deeply enough to have called Bingo. Sixteen years of Catholic education.

"Learn" me something that would give me the ability to change my position that they cause more discomfort than comfort to an individual or the world in general.

When they don't represent the clearest reference of my personal worst sin - hypocrisy; I'll consider amending my position which is based upon first hand observation and, ashamed to admit, participation.

Don't they say there is "joy in suffering"? Mortification of the flesh and all that jazz? Oh go on, tell us all about it  .

How many Irish immigrants had their paperwork in order after the potato famine? Each wave of immigrants in the US is regarded with suspicion... till they establish themselves, and after a couple of generations, everybody joins in unison to berrate the new immigrants. Catholics were always judged by the WASP elite, whether they were Irish or Italian. In turn, the Irish and Italian looked down upon Jewish immigrants... it's a never ending story.

I don't think illegal immigration is the greatest of this country's trouble. Who'll pick up Californian tomatoes for three bucks an hour, if it isn't them?

Kittensol, no-one has a problem with "Immigrants."
They're invited here and they come legally.

It's *illegal aliens* who are causing the problems and who the Catholic Church is advocating for.
That is two different categories of people.

The Church has brought me peace to an extent. Sorry you are so bitter about it. oh and I thought astrologers and agnostics had no concept of sin.

"Bitter" like dark chocolate - enjoyable in its own way.

"Peace" be with you. Personally I can find no "peace" in such a bastion for hypocrisy. Peace comes from practicing what is preached. Peace comes from pragmatic application of resources to address the problems without just pointing them out for other people to solve. Peace comes from accepting the progress of science, not just when it suits you, but especially when it serves to address the very 'sin' identified; my example would be 3rd world poverty and disease in the face of available cheap, prophylactic solutions.

I have no sentiment whatsoever regarding the Catholic or any other organized religion. I accept them for what they are - an industry. Like many other industries, it serves them to keep their consumer's ignorant. Faith based dogma concerning the new religious paradigms such as global warming is no different.

I see myself as fortunate to at least have had the option to learn from the Catholic taught 'Devil's Advocate' position. I'm grateful for my education not resentful, and especially not "bitter". My education made me the challenging, pragmatic, questioning, sadist I am today.

I only hold up a mirror. The church came up with these new 'sins'. I appreciate and shared them for their entertainment value.

Why no reference to what I should "learn"?

A Jewish girl in a nun's habit. That's true subversion for ya.

I find this obsession with sin and retribution unhealthy: why is guilt so overrated?

There was no reference because as a former Catholic and someone whose mind is made up, whatever I say is on deaf ears. And on a more personal note, because I think you are kind of an ass. But thats just me.

If you ever get a chance to look....and I dont know where it could be found...but when I was a kid in catechism...or how ever you spell that...(yes even the dope smokin hippies that raised Me made sure I got a good Catholic education...which most likely accounts for the Sadistic things I do...) there were an additional 10 commandments issued by the catholic church.

The key here is that they also have mortal and venial sins....mortal sins can not EVER be erased from your soul...Unless of course you give good ole father Mcwhateverthefuckhisnameis a blow job in the confessional before Sunday Mass....or he was with you when you did it.

I think I stopped believing in these when I found out I would go to hell for masterbating. I asked for excommunication....honestly....who do these pious indignant self righteous unholy fucks think they are to tell people upon whos backs they have stood for the last 2000000 years what will send them to hell?

And I also noticed, as did the OP that sex with an alter boy wasnt mentioned. Nor was the sanctioning of child abuse by the Catholic church by finding that their preists were not allowed to be sent to prison, but should instead be sequestered off in far away places (because far away people apparently do not breed) and "admonished" by the church.

And as far as crime? The mob has long been tied to the church and that is well known with in smaller Italian/Catholic communities.

Im so glad Im a heathen.

In many cases, from what I've witnessed. The oh-so-lofty religious types just LOVE to point the finger at anyone but themselves.

hahahaha. I never claimed to be a lofty religious type. I go to mass sometimes, I am human and mess up all the time, and I never feel guilty for things that are "the new mortal sins". did you think I live in a monastery or something? its barely noon and I had vodka and a cigarette for lunch...real christ like I am.
