Because society is mostly homophobic. It even has an effect on people who are perfectly acceptable of homosexuality. You ask someone who is afraid of homosexuals why they are afraid (or hate) them and many times they will struggle to find a clear answer. The reason why is society has taught them to be afraid. I remember on National Geographic they were talking about some tribe where the boys had to give oral sex on the village's elders in order to be considered a "man." And these boys had no problem doing it. So that kind of indicates that a lot of this negative stereotype concerning homosexuals is social conditioning. What is funny is how many who are against gay/bi men getting it on are perfectly OK with gay/bi women getting it on.
