Come on, this is guns as wank material, if one was really into mechanical design of the highest order, one would be drooling over something like mecanical watches. Guns is the love interest here, let's not kid ourselves.

Why can't guns be admired? Why is it someone can admire a piece of military hardware such as a plane or a tank and no one minds. But you admire a gun, and suddenly you're some kind of psycho killer?

Psycho killer, no. But drooling over guns doesn't put ones obsession in a healthy light, especially when people then try to say guns are just a tool. That;'s like trying to explain away an unhealthy obsession with a woman as legitimate because she is just a tool to be fucked.

Lately I've become interested in Black Powder revolvers, like the reproduction Colt Walkers, 1847 to 1861 era. I currently own a "few" nice Colts and Rugers. As for a "legitimate" reason to own guns? I can legitimately own a piece of history, I can legitimately protect myself and family and it is legitimately my right.

But I also regret that guns are so demonized that if I suggested an afternoon breaking clay targets as a date to kittin or christine, they'd probably never speak to me again *SIGH*

I can't talk on behalf of Christine, but I'd come clay shooting with you - if only to find out whether I can aim with a gun as well as with a ... oh nevermind! I'd go on any kind of date with you, Empy  .

In fact, this "debate" typifies the knee-jerk reactions on both sides of the gun control issue.  I quit paying NRA dues when they started lobbying in favor of "cop killer" bullets (come on...you need those to take your deer?) and lobbying against reasonable restrictions on firearm purchases (WHY does any private citizen need to buy more than one gun a week?)  But I also regret that guns are so demonized that if I suggested an afternoon breaking clay targets as a date to kittin or christine, they'd probably never speak to me again *SIGH*

E.

well i'm speaking to you and i don't understand why you think i'd not talk to you again...i don't think of guns as demonized as all...i thought maybe my posts in this thread showed that?      anyhoo...yes i'd do the clay pigeon thing, it's actually a lot of fun and i bet you are as well.

Following that logic, if one were looking for wank material, they wouldn't need guns because they could go on the internet and find pictures and videos of naked people of every description, which are far better suited for human arousal.

People can collect coins, stamps, cars, model trains, dolls, trivets, spoons, golf balls, a million and one different things with no push-back from people who don't... yet, if they collect guns, some people immediately assume they're sociopaths. i don't get it. i could own a dozen variants of the British Enfield rifle, but i could still only shoot one at a time.

And watches are just fussy, over-hyped junk. i wanna take THIS sucker apart!

you missed the context
in the the fantasy world where you have gotten rid of all the guns we would both have knives
in your fantasy scene where I am dealing with a trained intruder, if he is trained and either or desperate for a fix he will be at a disadvantage
worst case even fight which is still better off than I would be with no guns (back to knives)

I was kind of hoping you would think about hiding in a safe place and contacting the police rather than taking him on but obviously you aren’t a coward are you NO. This man has come into your house, well it's up to you to get rid of him obviously no matter how ill prepared you are.

So basically you want every citizen who finds themselves a target of a crime to lay down and let the criminals run rampant over them?

Is the problem there that bad Mr Smith? The language you use is a bit dramatic at times but you know the place better than I. I feel people should asses their capabilities in such situations rather than automatically being gungho about it, so to speak.

The problem is that bad everywhere. Just look around. I live in what I considered to be a pretty decent area.....and then heard of a night clerk shot and killed at a 7/11 two miles away, heard of a man shot and robbed at the galleria mall, the same distance away, just on another street (and the galleria is where all the rich people shop) then I heard of a an altercation at the strip area about 3 blocks away where someone was stabbed.

And then.....another 2 miles away....at a GROCERY STORE that I shop at weekly, in BROAD DAYLIGHT a 56 year old special education teacher was beaten so badly she got brain damage all (they suspect) for her purse.

No kidding. The point, however, is that if the rich people store is two miles away, and million dollar homes are just across the street and we STILL aren't in a 'crime free' area....then we're all screwed. Because in the suburbs and in the 'projects' the crime is even worse.
