Status: offline 		Scientists and zoologists claim that homosexuality has been seen in at least 1,500 species.

"Not every sexual act has a reproductive function," said Janet Mann, a biologist at Georgetown University who studies dolphins (homosexual behavior is very common in these marine mammals). "That's true of humans and non-humans." Some scientists have proposed that being gay may serve its own evolutionary purpose."It could be a way that you strengthen bonds - that's one hypothesis," Mann told LiveScience. "Another is that it could be practice for heterosexual sex. Bottlenose dolphin calves mount each other a lot. That might benefit them later on." 
 
One thing that does seem to be exclusive to humans is homophobia...

"It's a very interesting question as to why anybody ever cares," Mann said. "There are different theories about why people find it threatening. Some think it disrupts male bonds, like you're not playing for the right team. The funny thing is that people say homosexuality is unnatural, that non-humans don't engage in homosexual behavior, but that's not true. Then they'll say it's base and animalistic."

Status: offline 		                    i always hated the argument that "it is only found in humans" when the Pat Robertson types were trying to unload their bullshit myriad reasons for being hateful against GLBT folks.  Truth is, it doesn't matter either way.  Some people are gay, if not one single other animal showed homosexual tendencies it wouldn't stop people from having them.  Other animals don't build nuclear warheads, either...can the homophobes pick a new fight?  Because those actually can hurt the American family.
    Perhaps there's a direct link between gayness and the opposable thumb....hmmm

Status: offline 		If there is anything about the higher primates that sets them apart from the rest of the animal world, it's that we have somehow evolved beyond needing a "breeding season." Males don't need to rut, and females don't go into heat. (Despite how Axe commercials may try to convince you othrwise.) I say higher primates, because the Bonabos seem to have the same blessing placed upon them.

Oh, yeah, and we're the only species (aside from certain species of ants) that make war, and kill for pleasure.

Status: offline 		So the index of 1500 species that have been shown to have declined or become extinct over the last few years in the study published last week - is evidence not of global climate change or the impact of mankind's growing population on the planet, but evidence of the Lord's work in removing these sinful beasts!

That such works might also explain the extinction of the dinosaurs for the same reasons, might be difficult to explain however, since of course, dinosaurs are works of the devil which never existed.

All it took was some insecure, uptight individual in a learned capacity or position of power to realise how he could rest easy if he told everyone it was wrong and back it up with laws that are punishable.

Although I am straight I have given alot of thought to this. Homophobes generally have something to hide, and fag bashers are the worst of the bunch, and are the most maladjusted.

I have been aware of homosexuality in other species for a long time, and from the posts, so have some others. Thing is, what causes it ?

I have had enough verbal and literate intercourse with homosexuals to know that they did not choose to be homosexuals. You can bandy about that point, rightfully saying that this statement indicates that it was not the best choice. I will not participate except to say that is was the best choice for them. That saying "Nobody would choose this" is a negative statement. If anyone around is so fucking brainwashed to not understand this, the statement itself still infers that another choice would have been better.

Now, given these facts, why do they do it ? One poster brought an issue up, why is it OK for lesbians ? Or bi Women ? Homosexuality is homosexuality, so why is it OK for the girls but not for the guys ? That is a very good question.

But looking at the big picture, I see it differently than most. There are too many people on this planet, and nobody can deny that. As a species we have something that has been described as a superconcious. As a species we know this and in an inate and almost unexplainable way we are making an adjustment.

Now if dolphins or who knows what did the same thing, so what ? As a species they have reacted to their environment. Whether or not they are too many in number, they percieve themselves as such. And when that happens the species delelops a proclivity towards homosexualiy or other activities to gain gratification without reproducing.

Sound familiar ?

Status: offline 		Humans, dolphins, elephants, and lots more are communal creatures, we like touch, to touch and be touched ... the gender is not important the bonding is.
The greeks, (spartans) felt that it was the only pure love, between men ... and what do you think all those women confined to a harem did if they weren't on the Sultan's list did?  I only see benifts, if only the rest of society did.
