So it has come to this. Well this is CM, what did we expect ? Not that I am saying there is anything wrong with it, any conversation takes a course. So here we are. Like I said, even the OP didn't come here to talk about dolphins for weeks on end. So what causes homosexuality ? First of all people who are can't even explain it, so how the hell are we going to ? I believe there are genetic predispositions to it, but a gay gene ? Or a left handed gene ? I think environment does play a big role here, but just which factors "trigger" it will be almost impossible to identify. And if we were to do so would it be right to avoid these influences ? I would tend to say no. When a guy is attracted to other guys, who can explain that ? Straights can't even explain why they are attracted to the opposite sex. It's just one of those things. I can't explain why I am left handed, why I instinctively used my south paw to pick up my first pencil, or crayon. In the case of a left hander it may well be that the left hand developed differently and is more suited to writing. But that really can't be proven. Seperating genetic disposition from environmental influence is not easy here either. Some left handers were taught by force to use their right hand. Some predisposed to homosexuality were taught by force to be straight. I would say there would be a negative impact, but there is no way to tell because we never will know what the other outcome would yield. To play devil's advocate for now (one of my favorite activities it seems), writing right handed is correct because we write from left to right. In the old days, one's hand would smear the ink. Similarly, as another mentioned, homosexuality would breed itself to extinction. But then there is someone else who mentioned a kid with two Gay Uncles. The only downside is that the kid probably won't have any cousins. And I am left handed and I can't write worth a shit. The problem here is that any study that could yield empirical data would require that identical twins be raised in two different environments. That would mean affecting two people's entire lives to get data. It may have been done. I remember reading years ago that in Canada quintruplets were born, and the government wanted to take the kids away. What else would they have in mind ? Such data is very hard to get. Some data could probably be gleaned by using hypnotic regression on siblings who have gone in different directions, one gay and one straight for example. But to take them early on and raise them in seperate, controlled environments would be a very expensive study, last decades and violate the subjects' rights as well as their Parent's rights. But people must be allowed to be who they are in the end. Many years ago in a psychology text I read an account of a Man who was an alcoholic, and a would be crossdresser. When he faced his desires and no longer suppressed them he became a social drinker. Forcing an unwanted life on someone is not good. It was the stigma associated with this that distressed him, at least that's what the author concluded. I would have to say that I concur. IIRC his Wife accepted his kink and he was much happier in the end. She even started buying him "clothes", and he stuck with her, totally straight, but had these desires. So where does something like that come from ? I don't think we will ever know for sure. Why do some people like being restrained ? (you know who WE are), would that be genetic ? I wrote quite a treatise on that exact subject on LMU, but it did not take genetics into account. If somone wants a link I will provide it, but it is non-sequitor to this thread so I won't be quoting it here. Gender is a physical thing, and so it must follow that sexual preferences are as well. But that may be post hoc ergo propter hoc. To touch on something else brought up here, somebody said something to the effect that alot of child molesters were molested as a child. While it doesn't seem to make sense, I don't have anything with which to argue against it. Thing is, who molested them ? Usually it is family members who have the opportunity to do it, so that might support the genetics theory. But that supposition could go bust because of the loose society we are in. They may have been molested by stepparents. No blood, no genetics. There are some things we will never know, but that is no reason not to explore the subject. With that I yield the floor. T
