Status: offline 		Ok, Texas is a huge state and there are a lot of things there.
I've never been there unless you want to count going through it by train in 1962.
Ok, what's "The Woodlands?"

Status: offline 		Popeye, its is a rather snooty subdivision in the northern part of Houston above Bush Airport. Essentially it is a swamp that they filled in to build expensive homes for uptight pricks who think they are better than the rest of Houston LOL. (Im down in the Bay Area, so Woodlanders dont like us... Im not sure if its in Conroe or Spring I think its between the two the lines are a little confusing to me on that side of the city. (See a lot of people dont realize what people call "Houston" is actually 70 miles across...  Like NASA isnt in the city of Houston it is in Clear Lake in the Bay Area, adjacent to Stinkadena (Pasadena) where urban Cowboy was filmed.

It's a place drama of where the moderatly rich and wealthy (primarly from Kingwood) formed in between Houston and Conroe on I-45. As Houston took over, Kingwoods taxes increased but sever budget cuts where made in the the Kingwoods fire, police, and ambulance departments. Being unhappy about paying more for less, certain rich town folk decided to rebuild a community that can be strong enough to over come Houstons reach.

The Woodlands mall, hospital, hotels, and eating places are easy to find for the most part being right off  I 45. However, all the nice homes, law offices, High School, small shopping centers, and parks are all behind the trees in the actual woods. Kind of odd but it works. Great place to go trick or treating and christmas light displays.

Conroe and the Woodlands are roughly 10 miles apart less than a six to eight minuet drive. However, the two towns treat each other as forign states and continue to battle over county power.

Any more questions about the Woodlands?

And which part of Houston is the "best" part to live in?

Drk, seriously The Woodlands is weird... I mean if you look us "Asshole" in the dictionary they will say "see Woodlands people". They have some interesting attitudes. You can have a $700,000 house in the Bay Area with an 85 foot yacht docked out front and a Woodlander with a $280,000 house will be like "Bay Area Trash" LOL

Dont take the $700,000 house comment to mean its expensive here... You can get houses quite affordably and the cost of living is great! Lots of fun water activities here too.... Fantastic fishing

Well there are a lot of fire stations but they are in "the city" - not all of Houston is Houston Fire Dept. A lot of towns have volunteer, or paid and volunteer. See the city of Houston is pretty much all inside the beltway but what people call houston actually covers 5 counties - Harris, Brazoria, Galveston, Montgomery and Ft Bend.

That area of TX is flat. Flat, flatter and flattest.

The best part of Houston to live in will be highly dependent on what part of Houston you'll be working in. Traffic can be absolutely horrific, as the growth has far exceeded highway expansion. You probably don't want to live in the Woodlands and work on the southside. Downtown is doable, only because of the commuter buses - you would not want to try to drive this daily (especially with the price of gas these days).

It also depends on what sort of life you want. Clear Lake/Kemah area is more laid back, "Florida-ish" with the lake/bay/water. Galleria/West Hou/Downtown/Midtown are the happening places. Woodlands is a planned community of suburbia. If you're kountry (with a "K"), think east side - Baytown. Katy is a great place (also on the kountry side of life), but the commute can be suicidal. Is proximity to downtown and the activities - sports, clubs, etc - important? Or access to a lake with a boat? Or having a big plot of land? Suburban heaven with neighbors 5 feet away?

So a) narrow down where you'd be working, and b) decide what's important to you to help figure out where to live in Houston.
