Hair cut, colour and style = approx £80 / $157.89
Nail Extensions = £25 / $49.34
Waxing (full body) = £35 / $69.09
Clothing / footwear = £300 / $592.15
Books = £15 / $29.60
Food = £150 / $296.01
Cigarettes = £35 / $69.09
Total = £640 / $1263.17

Above is what it costs me to keep me for a month approximately. I haven't included rent / mortgage as i don't pay to live where i do. Accomodation is included with my job. I haven't included medical costs as in the Uk we have the national health service, but i know in USA it is privately paid for. I've probably also missed some pretty basic stuff off, but you get the gist.
Now if i was to give up my work etc for a Dom / Domme and be totally dependent on him / her it would be on the basis that i still am provided for in the style i provide for myself. I will say at this point that i do not think, im 99% certain that i could never give my career up and be dependent on someone else. Im far too independent for that. Would my provisal be unreasonable? I don't think so but i'm sure there are others here who would disagree.
Anyway i'm just wondering (and im pretty sure this has been asked before), how on earth do people fund others lives? If you are extremely rich or well paid i can see it, but what about those in normal every day jobs who aren't so well off?
So for those who do it, how do you support yourself and your subs /slaves?
Would you do it? If so why? If not why not?
Has it ever got you into debt?
Are you in debt because of it?

It's something I want to do- but am not currently financially well off enough to make that choice.  I do very well for myself in general, but am nowhere near financially independent and I supported my partner taking a huge income cut in order to follow his passion and do a lot of good in a non-profit.

For me of course, everything except the food would be considered luxuries and would be given on a merit based/high desire system.  Necessities WOULD include living expenses, monthly bills, insurance payments, travel expenses, and savings.

I totally agree that a lot of what i put could be considered as luxuries but nice nails, hair, appearance etc have been a rule for me with most Doms. I am expected to look and feel good therefore for me they become necessities not luxuries.

People have spent money on me im just not good with it. A flaw but independence hinders my accepting gifts ability.
I too have supported many in my life.

I'm not so sure I would want to give up my job. Right now I have a great job with benefits, that is going to take good care of me in the long run, and giving that security up would be rather foolish of me.
I can take care of myself financially, work my job, and still have plenty of time for a relationship. I would quit the part time job I'm working most likely however, as it's dangerous, takes up too much of my time,  and leaves me all too often battered and beaten, and not in a good way.
That only part of your math that seems kind of crazy to me is the amount monthly you place on clothing and shoes. But then again, I'm a guy and don't need to shop like that LOL.

That depends on what makes you need in order to feel good about how you look.  And a lot of masters do good training on their slaves to make their ideal look into something VERY different than their original ideas were.

For me:
Hair cut, colour and style = approx £80 / $157.89

I don't do color, but I do very great cuts about twice a year, so that's 200/year.

Nail Extensions = £25 / $49.34

I do my own nails, and they are fabulous.  At most?  $10 a year for color and tools

Waxing (full body) = £35 / $69.09

I don't need to shave, and wouldn't require it of another.

Clothing / footwear = £300 / $592.15

Generally reasonable for me, maybe higher over the course of a year

This could turn into a great discussion on needs vs wants :)

Grins....i'm going to have Scooter read this one.

I admit, before i came here i was pretty adamant about wanting to work, but Scooter wanted me home.

I am really not expensive to keep, except for during gardening season and in critter food, his new nickname for me is Ellie May. You should know if i want something i always get it.

But i am not a "wanting" kind of person.

I do pay my own medical bills but i can afford to. If Scooter's job would let him add me to his insurance he would.

I do not need him to keep me. I have a nice retirement and do not ever have to work again. But it makes him happy to take of and spoil me and Jewel both (and we are both very very spoiled, trust me). He likes the fact that we are here waiting when he comes home.

He has a good job, the house is paid for, the toys, bikes, camper etc are paid for and we have zero credit card debt.

I think a lot of people screw up there, using credit to live beyond their means.

How others keep their subs at home i cannot say but Scooter does it beautifully.

£300 / $592 would buy me maybe two pairs of jeans, a couple of nice tops and possibly one / two pairs of shoes, depending on if im splurging on footwear or bargain buying.
Maybe / definately? a little excessive for some but i like to and am expected to look good and different at all times. Same outfit twice in a month is usually get away withable but not twice in same week

OK, Jewel read that on my screen.

How about all of that, a hot tub, a pool, a billiards/bar in house, a couple of Harley's, a couple of dirt bikes, access to a boat and a lake, a vehicle always at your disposal and no sex required?

Are you here yet? Packed?

Did i mention free tattoos?

For us, the decision to embark in this way was a revolutionary turning point in our lives relative to dominance and submission.  It was scarier, too, I might add, than just about any BDSM scenario or toy you might care to illustrate or show me... You want to talk about twue submission?

Until quite recently, I was a very established senior executive - as you say, extremely independent and very successful financially.  It gave me an enormous sense of both personal enjoyment and of personal accomplishment.

The decision to leave all that and become totally dependent upon another was a hugely difficult task.  Yet that's the decision we made.  The event doesn't have a value to shock, and it doesn't have a value to titillate; in fact one looking in might (and does) see it as quite ordinary and vanilla.  Yet this simple act carried great power as a springboard to another relationship level.

Obviously, he has the means to do this or we wouldn't have.  Above all, he's an intelligent man.  However, once in a position that a change could work on the balance sheet, it became more an exercise of getting past my own fear and insecurity.  It became an exercise about trust.  Took us about 2 years to get there, but as I said... nothing but nothing worked better us for us both to break barriers.

The actual dollars and cents of this are a little immaterial.  It will come down to acceptable standards of living to both dom and sub.  It will come down to resourcefulness and potential responsibilities.  It might cost $500 for one sub's clothing per month and $5,000 for another.  The actual values don't really enter into it in terms of how it can be done... Financially, it either can or it can't   Cold calculation.

From my experience, what really drives the equation after the determination that the math works is whether it works for the relationship dynamic itself.  At the risk of repeating myself... yes... it's very scary indeed.  Speaking personally... I had to dig deep.

I am always perplexed at the assumtion the dom needs to support the sub, I have seen one or two relationships where the sub supported the Dom and it did not shift any part of the submission...Now if the Dom is using the sub it is a differnt story, but most people can tell the differnce...

sorry miss if i strayed off topic, but I will say i am shocked at the price of nails over there.

If you have your own business and a slave competent to work in it effectively-she should be able to pay her own expenses.
