Status: offline 		I was born in the 60's.
Even though I was too young to be a part of it, I have
always respected that era/decade immensely, especially here in the USA,
People marched, people protested, people changed things in the 1960's.
 
I have never totally trusted the government to tell me everything, and fully
expect what I hear to be a "watered down version of the truth" at best.

I knew we were in a recession last year, and I feel we are headed to a depression.
It amazes me that people tell me it is not true, because..........."The government has not
announced it!".
I never realized how many of the masses really believe only what the "man" and the "government" tells them.
 
Do you really believe everything the "man" and the "government" tells you??
If you do, please tell me why?

Status: offline 		a wise man believes only half of what he hears, the brilliant few know which half to believe.  As the government often disseminates information on a "Need to know" basis, it is unwise to believe everything you hear, and foolhardy to believe that you have heard everything.

It's scary how many really are just spoonfed and think it's traitorous to doubt.  I believe virtually nothing the "man" or "government" says.  I automatically feel suspicious because time after time it's eventually come to light just how badly Americans have been lied to by their "leaders."  Basically, if a government official's lips are moving, I believe he or she is lying (at least to some degree)...........luci

Thats why there is "classifiication" and "sensitive compartmentalized information" and "need to know" and "plausible deniability" etc... The publics "right to know" is bullshit. Its just like all those yahoos that assemble outside "Area 51" trying to find "the truth". Honestly, I would like to drop napalm on them as what they are doing is against national security!  Ya know what goes on at the Groom Lake Test Site? I do... Secret shit thats none of the public's fucking business! Standing on those ridges with a camera trying to snap a glimpse of something in the name of truth can get american pilots killed and destroy billions of dollars of research. Another example - whether or not WMD's were found in Iraq and in what quantities... Thats not our business. The people who need to know are in the loop. The people who dont need to know get "the Mushroom Treatment" - ie keep them in the dark and feed them a steady diet of horse shit. Thats the way it is, thats the way it always has been and thats the way it should be... and before Bush gets blamed for "secrecy and lies" remember that FDR, a democrat, pulled off the Manhattan Project which was the biggest coverup and covertly funded project in US History....

Thank you for responding, why is that so many answer questions primarily
by only using information put out or filitered through the "government" or FCC, government related agencies and similar media or channels?

I am seriously asking this question  today, because it took so many people
so long, to admit we are in a recession.

I am wondering what has to happen to our lives, the economy, and the masses 
before they usually wake up and know what time it is.

What do you mean by 'everything'?
Are the supposed to tell us of ops going on when saying something would put lives in danger?
That kind of 'everything'?

Or do you mean that if the government is questioned directly they tell the truth?

I don't think everyone should know everything, and I most certainly do not believe that any government is open.

Status: offline 		         There are two very different questions in here, Mia.  Do I trust that a USGS map would show the correct elevation of my house?  Yes.  If a known fault ran right under it, I would expect to see that on the map as well.  The Statistical Abstract of the United States is considered a reliable source everywhere except a Ron Paul volunteer meeting.

        Now when it comes to the politicians, put me in the 'moving lips' category.  They will tell us, at best, what they think it is best for us to know, and more often, what it is best for their interests that we know.

The only thing I trust less than the government is the media, and the media fueled conspiracy theories.

This 'recession' has been wailed about by the 'sky is falling' crowd for many, many, years...sooner or later there has to be a down turn, making them 'correct'.

But they are never going to correctly tell you what time it is.

Great questions camille!
I was asking this question, really in general, because many people seem to get the majority of
their information and base what is going on in the world, based on information they are "given".
I really just wanted to know how much stock, you put into the information that is given us by
the media, etc.

Right now, I am focusing on the "Economic forecasts in the USA".

The government is always going to tell the people, what they want the people to know.

    One of the blessings of the government, media, and the internet, is that if one looks hard enough, it is possible to find someone who will authoritatively express the opinion or thoughts that one wishes to hear.
      If someone expresses the same opinion as i do, no matter how far out of left field my thought, or theirs might be, it offers validation, hence gets quoted as authority.
       Just an example: Faery, if the government did not believe in your alien friends, why did they set up SETA (Search for Extra Terrestrial Activity)?  How many folks will now google this acronym?
