Many people, even on here, do trust and believe most of what the
"government" puts out, and quotes them often as a source.
For example, I have known that we are IN a recession heading for a depression
for at least a year, many will quote government statistics and say we are not.
At some point, you need to be able to think beyond what you are "told".

Okay, I have been thinking about this thread today.
I just NEED to ask the question, AGAIN.

Looking at our current economic situation these days, "Do people really STILL believe everything
or even MOST of what the government tells us?"
Are many of us just brain washed and unable to put things together unless someone tells

us what to think on the nightly news?

"The question is NOT "is there life on other planets?" No, the question is: "Do they have ray guns?"  -Simon Hawke

Anyone who thinks that the US government can be trusted, really needs to go rent a copy of "The Atomic Cafe." The level of pro nuke propaganda in that film, compared to what we know to be true today is astounding. "Duck and cover" my ass! Plus, with the pratice of "compartmentalization" not even the government knows... what the government knows.

I think that in some issues they do indeed tell the truth and others they won't or don't. As to "I am seriously asking this question  today, because it took so many people
so long, to admit we are in a recession."
That has to do with economic growth by quarters or lack thereof. We can see it and feel it in our wallets without the classification but zero growth in 2 consecutive quarters is what the standard for a recession is by economic standards. Does that mean it is corrrect....HELL NO!...The govt. will not say it is a recession to keep the public calm(that didn't work well did it?) and the markets stable even though they will say it before the Treasury will.

Machiavelli: the sovereign must lie to the public or serve up propaganda, where he/they believe it to be in the public interest (or something like that). We haven't evolved that much in 500 years.

I agree with you SilverMark, I seriously wonder
because no matter what many of us SEE, many
of us don't believe it until the government proclaims it.

I was born in the 60's.
Even though I was too young to be a part of it, I have
always respected that era/decade immensely, especially here in the USA,
People marched, people protested, people changed things in the 1960's.

I have never totally trusted the government to tell me everything, and fully
expect what I hear to be a "watered down version of the truth" at best.

I knew we were in a recession last year, and I feel we are headed to a depression.
It amazes me that people tell me it is not true, because..........."The government has not
announced it!".
I never realized how many of the masses really believe only what the "man" and the "government" tells them.

Do you really believe everything the "man" and the "government" tells you??
If you do, please tell me why?

**Power to the people**

I am really a child of the 60s.
PEACE

MzMia, I don't trust ANYONE to tell me everything. Why on earth would I assume the federal goverment is any different than most people?

I would not trust the current government with a two day old pie.
A state where no one has the right to track gun ownership, but where the FBI have the right to know every book you've ever read is topsy turverydom

I think this is a very legitimate  question.

As bad off as most of us can SEE things are, many don't seem to really
grasp that we are in a recession----> heading for far worse.

Many people can't or won't "see" or fail to "understand" situations,
until the government tells us what we need to hear.

I am slowly getting to the point, that I am thinking maybe we "need"
a lot more government intervention.

Blind skepticsm is as bad as blind faith. To believe everything "the Government" says is silly. It is equally silly to reject it out of hand, just because "the Government" says so.

I think you nailed it!  It's kinda interesting (sometimes) to read some of the comments on treads around CM and read howmany here who have 100% distrust of the Government...and no question there are a multitude of reasons to be distrustul of government...but yet believe blindly in a politician because he says what they want to hear and profoundly offers "change", ...go figure!

I agree with this statement.
The truth is often, somewhere in the middle.
The problem usually is finding it!
