On Governor Palin and her views of science, during the Governor's race in Alaska, here is the skinny -

"Creation science' enters the race"
"GOVERNOR: Palin is only candidate to suggest it should be discussed in schools."

By TOM KIZZIA
Anchorage Daily News

Published: October 27, 2006
Last Modified: October 30, 2006 at 09:40 AM

"The volatile issue of teaching creation science in public schools popped up in the Alaska governor's race this week when Republican Sarah Palin said she thinks creationism should be taught alongside evolution in the state's public classrooms.

Palin was answering a question from the moderator near the conclusion of Wednesday night's televised debate on KAKM Channel 7 when she said, "Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of information. Healthy debate is so important, and it's so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both."

Her main opponents, Democrat Tony Knowles and Independent Andrew Halcro, said such alternatives to evolution should be kept out of science classrooms. Halcro called such lessons "religious-based" and said the place for them might be a philosophy or sociology class."

Women know pandering when they see it.  Hillary refused to be content with the "back of the bus".  His choice was predictable and a desperate ploy for votes.  Women aren't  THAT stupid.  All he has done it underscore the attitude that women are good for "second place".

I note that the Republicons all assume that Obama snubbed Hillary. I would bet that Hillary and Barack discussed it, and she declined.

It's sooooooo funny to hear you talk that way while your party is running someone with a very similar level of experience at the TOP of the ticket! Everything you're claiming about John McCain is doubly true about your own party - you've got behind someone who is totally unqualified for the very sort of reasoning you're accusing the "repugnican" party of using.

SO funny...

Bullshit.  Open your eyes.   He' so old.. he'll croak in office and she'll be left with a mess she'll have no clue what to do with.  The only good thing would be that it would show the continued incompetence of the repugnican party.  I'm quite happy he made the choice.  It shows just what an old fool he is :)   (in short.. it's not gonna work!  Waaaaaaaaaaay to transparent a ploy not to be an insult to the intelligence of any thinking person).

Will they still be pleased when they learn she`s a fundie wacko?

Pahh leeze....

It`s obvious that McCain was pandering to the christian-right.But this is the general,not the primary election.

Does pandering to right-wing zelots make the ticket more attractive to liberals?

And he didn`t even know her!!! They met twice,breifly,before picking her.
Holy fucking shit,you gotta be kid`n me...

Lol.

And apparenently,on her first day as VP nom.she`s already told a lie,a whopper.

She supported the assclowns Pat Buchanan/Lenora Fulani`s ticket for president.
Fuck`n weird.

"Filani’s political bedfellows have included Lyndon Larouche and most recently Pat Buchanan. She has generally been viewed by the media as a bit of a kook"

And she`s doesn`t even know what McCain`s middle east plans are!!!

WTF is that about?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I think we might have the female version of Dan Quayle here.lol
She`s getting hammered for evoking Hillary Clinton by some dems with lines like,"I know Hillary Clinton,Hillary Clinton is my friend.Sarah,you`re no Hillary Clinton,...lol,....ah-la Dan Quayle.
Now that, is fucking hilarious.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I predict some very pissed off republicans soon ,when they find out that they`re saddled with a dudd VP.

Brazen liar,under two investigations,ditz,zero knowledge about foreign affairs,a fundie,a creationists and hot chick.

I`m happier and happier,the more I find out about her.

I can only assume this is a good pick based on the reactions around here...

quote:

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/09/22/alaska.bridge.ap/
"We will continue to look for options for Ketchikan to allow better access to the island," the Republican governor said. "The concentration is not going to be on a $400 million bridge."
Palin directed state transportation officials to find the most "fiscally responsible" alternative for access to the airport. She said the best option would be to upgrade the ferry system.

Actually...this seems to be problematic for her as well:

PALIN AND THE BRIDGE TO NOWHERE.... John McCain's introduction of Sarah Palin as his running mate this afternoon was an interesting sight. If you watch the video carefully, and I hope you do, notice that in order to tell the audience his running mate's name, he had to carefully read it from a script. That's really not a good sign. Palin's speech was rather routine, but there was a paragraph that stood out for me:
"...I championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. In fact, I told Congress -- I told Congress, 'Thanks, but no thanks,' on that bridge to nowhere. If our state wanted a bridge, I said we'd build it ourselves."
The McCain campaign has been flagging this pretty aggressively this afternoon. It's a shame, then, that Palin wasn't exactly telling the truth. As TNR's Brad Plumer explained, Palin actually supported the funding for the much-derided bridge project. That's not a good start for her very first public appearance as the Republicans' VP candidate. I'd add, by the way, that her reference to earmark spending is itself problematic. For all of McCain's alleged disgust for pork, Palin's Alaska receives more earmarks than any other state.

Kay Bailey,Snow,Dole would have been better picks.

If this guy was named Sam Palin,he`d still be a poor pick.

I don`t see how this attracts anyone that wouldn`t already be voting GOP.

She`s to the right of Bush.How does this attract indi-voters?

Did you miss the question and response in the link you provided?  She favored doing so with STATE funding, not the federal funding.  So I am missing where the LIE was..

5. Would you continue state funding for the proposed Knik Arm and Gravina Island bridges?
Yes. I would like to see Alaska's infrastructure projects built sooner rather than later. The window is now--while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist.

What she meant was that their congressional delegates could get funding--earmarks, in other words...pretty much a flip, or a flop.

Interesting... that one quote seems to fit with this one and not the spin being put on it.

Just sayin.

This kinda puts the last nail in the "maverick" status coffin.

RIP

This has been an interesting day.

Seeing the cons running a victory lap on day one is a hoot.

I think they believe their POV is same as the general public`s.

Which is both insulting and naive, all at once.

A very interesting day.

Next week should be just as rich.

I liked(laughed at)her line about breaking the highest glass ceiling.

"It was rightly noted in Denver this week that Hillary left 18 million cracks in the highest, hardest glass ceiling in America," Palin said, after acknowledging Democrat Geraldine Ferraro, the first woman on a national ticket, and Clinton as paving way for her selection. "But it turns out the women of America aren't finished yet, and we can shatter that glass ceiling once and for all."

Yippy,I have a pussy,vote for me.

Isn`t that the stuff we`re trying to get away from?

Weren`t conservatives, the 1st to say we shouldn`t vote for someone based on gender?

Now we should?

McFilp-Flop strikes again.

She is a wife who just celebrated her 20th anniversary, and a mother of 5.  Her oldest son is about to be shipped off to Iraq next month.  She is from a small town and has risen to the top on her own mertis.  She is uncompromising in her principles.  She is living the 'American Dream' right there for all to see.  She is well spoken and not at all hard on the eyes.

Whether or not you think any of these things is important, or should be, doesn't matter.

You will be surprised to find out just how many people (both men and women) do think these are important things and will vote for the McCain ticket because of them.

The Democrats are in a very sticky position;  Attack Palin and you are attacking Mom and small town America. (Is how some will view it) That will have a backlash that is going to sting, and not in a good way.

More the fool them, but then again, who ever said the majority of people were particularly clever? If their vote gets swayed by such mundanities... it explains much about some of the past elections.

I have no problem attacking "mom and small town America"when they want to teach creationism and restrict a woman's right to choose.If all that is Mom and apple pie,you can have it ,I'll pass
