Status: offline 		Governor Palin is anti-choice, anti-gay marriage and under investigation in her state of Alaska.  I also have to question why Senator McCain would pick a VP who he has met only twice and who never has been through the political boiler room that is a national election.
 
I am on several mailing lists where politics are discussed and none of these women are fooled by this tactic.  They are more concerned with the issues of reproductive health, education, health care and energy policy which effect their everyday lives.

PS: back to the original post - the more I think about it, the more I think that McCain deliberately chose an improbable running mate in order to shoot himself in the foot. There's no other explanation, and Chickpea is correct: arguing over the 'experience' thing only plays in the hands of the Republicans, who want to cause mayhem over undecided voters. They're running around like ants right now, but they know full well it's pretty much fucked for them. Simply, they can't loose face and admit defeat, so they harp on about how great McCain's choice is.

Status: offline 		I knew how I would vote in this election 20 years ago.  But I am pleased that we will either have a black man or a woman in the white house, no matter how the election goes.  It seems important as a symbol of cultural evolution.  None of the candidates are all that I would want them to be.  Those who convinced McCain to choose a woman as a running mate are rather shrewd in my opinion.  It remains to be seen if who we elect will do a good job.  I am not holding out much hope, either way.  I am half convinced we don't want good elected officials.

I liked McCain in 2000. But things have changed, and I can't support him now.

Status: offline 		She was picked for HER age, looks, for being the mother of five, the daughter of educators, her "conservative politics" and  "pro-life" stance.... I do not think she can show us the experience and background that Hillary has.
But in politics, personal spin is every bit as important as your background and experience.

I saw the face that McCain picked and heard the words that Obama said...
It will be the airbrush vs. the soundbyte.

Stop, Look, and LISTEN! Then by all means, vote your conscience - should you have one.

And here is an excerpt from a Nov. 5, 2006 Anchorage Daily News article (via LEXIS):

A significant part of Palin's base of support lies among social and Christian conservatives. Her positions on social issues emerged slowly during the campaign: on abortion (should be banned for anything other than saving the life of the mother), stem cell research (opposed), physician-assisted suicide (opposed), creationism (should be discussed in schools), state health benefits for same-sex partners (opposed, and supports a constitutional amendment to bar them).

She has made definitive statements that Creationism should be taught in schools, along with Evolution.

I will listen to her views and answers respectfully. But I do want to hear them. Especially as we have already had a wrecking crew of Evangelical Christians 'parked' in the Dept. of Justice for the last eight years, doing 'God's work.'

What kind of an idiot  Hillary supporter would switch parties to vote for this woman that is a pro-life pro-gun evangelical? The similarites are none, and if women are so easily swayed by such a shameless tactic I will be very surprised.  They are polar opposites. What would be the reason then? The vagina vote?

Status: offline 		I do believe that McCain picked Palin over the variety of other veep candidates simply because she is a woman. On every other aspect, she is on par with or below the others in terms of experience. I truly hope the Hillary supporters don't fall for this manipulative ploy to get their votes. I voted for Obama in the primary simply because I thought his inexperience was a good thing, and would bring a fresh perspective to DC. But overall, I wouldn't have cared if Hillary had won. As far as I'm concerned, either one would be far better than Insane McCain. Republicans are driving our country into the ground and back to the 1800's! States' rights my A$$! It is one country, and all people deserve equal rights! I don't care if they don't want to call it "gay marriage". It will work just fine if the word marriage is dropped from legal terminology altogether and all unions, be it heterosexual or homosexual, were referred to as domestic partnerships! Let the bible thumpers keep their "precious" word. Just keep church and state separate like they were intended to be and are supposed to be! I'm voting for Obama/Biden. I know they aren't perfect, but at least they are living in the 21st Century and respect equality!
