I have no problem attacking "mom and small town America"when they want to teach creationism and restrict a woman's right to choose. If all that is Mom and apple pie,you can have it ,I'll pass

That is the beauty of this country, you get a choice.  Just because you don't think those things are 'good', there are many who do.

You will be surprised to find out just how many people (both men and women) do think these are important things and will vote for the McCain ticket because of them.

More the fool them, but then again, who ever said the majority of people were particularly clever? If their vote gets swayed by such mundanities... it explains much about some of the past elections.

It certainly does, from either side of the aisle depending on ones perspective. <chuckles>

Good for them, and let them live life the way they choose; does it mean they should impose their way of life on the rest of us though? Nope.

Yet the imposition of a way of life these conservatives don't agree with is ok?

How is pro-choice an imposition of a "way of life" on anyone...it is personal choice is it not?

This is true.  Strictly speaking, pro-choice is the imposition of a "way of death".

I do not want to get into an abortion debate here, really.

What you don't seem to get is that to some people, there really is no 'choice' at all.  Life begins at conception and abortion is murder, eliminating 'choice' from the equation all together.  They watch the news or read their papers and see 'murder' happening at random all across the country, which is an imposition on how they choose to live their lives and goes against what they believe.

This may or may not make sense or be rational in your mind, but it is to them.

That`s the thing I dislike about fundies(of any stripe). They want to impose their own personal religious views on the rest ,through laws and legislation, enforced by the state.

That`s what defines a fundie.

The founding fathers wanted state affairs and religion to be separated, with no religious tests. They didn`t want one particular religion or interpretation to be forced on other folks, using the awesome power of the state to do it.

Fundies suck.

This was a bone for the rightist-christo-fascist types like Rev. Hagee`s followers,Pat Robertson folks, your basic lunatic fringe types.IOW,fundies.

There were a lot of threats towards McCain leading up to this, veiled and un-wailed,by right-wing pundits.

Neo-con/traitor Robert Novak, even rose from his sick bed to write a single piece, telling MCCain or else.

Soccermom isn`t going to vote this woman. Not if she wasn`t already conservative.

I choose to ignore your equating of choice with death, but I am interested in your explanation of how choice equates to imposition.

Sorry SilverWulf this does not make sense to me.First off I watch the news and I read the paper and never do I see or hear about individual abortions. So what "Mary" up the block chooses to do about her own condition is not and never will be an "imposition" on the Religous Mom down the block. Now barring "Mary" from up the block to making a decision based on her own concious and her own situation ,in an effort to assuage the Religous Mom down the block is an imposition on "Mary's"choice as to how she lives her life...

You don't get your news the same place the far right religious conservatives do.  Do a quick search and you will find websites with scrolling counters showing how many abortions happen every day.  You will find 'news' websites aimed at these votors with that scroller splashed across the top of every page.  The ultra conservative publications have at least one story on abortion each and every issue.

Religious Mom down the block sees 'Mary' making what she believs is a horrible and mis-guided choice to commit murder.  Just because the law allows it, Religious Mom is beside herself with worry and anxious apprehension about the 'evil' that is being committed.  Religious Mom will committ time and effort to stopping this every day, instead of doing something more rational and productive.  That is the imposition at it's most basic.

.....i think you and i define 'imposition' differently. What i took from your example was a good definition of fundamentalism. In a country where individual rights are seen as being above societal rights, the religious mom you mention is sticking her nose into someone elses life. Mary down the road is merely dealing with her own life. How is your religious mom acting any differently from a Taliban supporter being appalled at a woman showing her face in public?

This is predicated on the presumption that the unborn fetus is not a human and is bereft of human rights.

A presumption said religious mom would reject categorically.
