McCain made a shrewd pick simply because Palin's record undercuts all of Obama's convention themes.  Every criticism Obama wants to lay on McCain boomerangs in the comparison of Palin to Biden.  Every attack Obama hopes to lay on Palin will boomerang on himself.

McCain's gamble here is a simple one.  He aims to deny Obama the chance to define himself.  He aims to keep Obama high in the stratosphere of rhetoric and nuance, away from the practical details of how he will lead this nation.  He aims to keep Obama a huge question mark in the voters' minds right up until Election day.

In uncertain times, will people vote for the known or the unknown?  History suggests going for the known.  At this point in the campaign, the "known" is McCain.

Yes, and what I know about McCain is he has flip-flopped on every issue in his bid to appease the Republican base.  This time he has shot himself in the foot though.  How do you spend months attacking your opponent's inexperience and pick the soccer mom to be your running mate?  Truly hilarious.

Actually Rasmussen just came out with a poll...
53% of voters say they have a favorable opinion of Palin
48% of voters say they have a favorable opinion of Biden

That's not much of a margin considering 90% of the country probably never heard of her before last week.

Besides, 'favourable opinion' actually translates as 'good first impression', nothing more.

Most folks are just getting to know who she is, therefore I would expect those numbers to go up.

International experience?  Canada, Russia, and Japan are not considered international?  What experience does the top of the Dem ticket have again?  I mean besides running for president.

You're joking right?

That's the same ridiculous argument that Bush had "international" experience in 2000 because Texas borders Mexico.

Sorry, but this is bullshit, and yet again you are arguing for the sake of it. Government requires planning, not hot headed decisions. And that's a fact.

I guess the question then becomes, what makes Obama more qualified than Palin?

I still haven't seen that question answered, I have been asking what qualifications the man has had for the better part of 16 months.

And regardless of how many times it gets answered you just keep on asking, kind of like the Energizer bunny, you just keep going and going and going...........................................................................................................

Funny..seems everyone I talked to is excited about the McCain VP pick. They all appear to be relieved.

I'm pretty excited.  McCain made the best choice possible for the Democratic Party.

Did you read his website like you read Das Kapital?

Talk of Palin... I wonder if she'd appreciate this little Marxist tidbite: "Anyone who knows anything of history knows that great social changes are impossible without feminine upheaval. Social progress can be measured exactly by the social position of the fair sex, the ugly ones included.".

I bet you've never read Das Kapital, if so, pray tell me why unthinking conservative morals, a belief ancient writings as being sacred is somehow better than a philosophical treatise which is rightfully classed as a masterpiece?

I have read Das Kapital, in fact.

Masterpiece?  Of flawed historical analysis, maybe.  Otherwise mostly mush.

If you have read it, you will be able to tell me its flaws. The fact you call it mush tells me if you have read it, you haven't understood it because even rightwing economic thinkers understand its relevance and insight.

Das Kapital spawned a new subject to study that just about all top universities in the world have a faculty in. Some mush is better than other mush but my guess mush comes from a prejudicial judgement on something that hasn't been read and its context understood, rather like muslim's prejudicial judgement on Rushdie's Satanic Verses.

Palin could think untill her head explodes but she'd never write one insightful sentence, her moralistic views curtail her horizons and moralists tend to be the most immoral people of all.

And at the end of all that study, Marx was still wrong.

Yes, I did.  Which is to say I read it "cover to cover."

Well, I've just been watching Palin clips, and she does see smart, and very personable. McCain I think has an issue with being personable, so its a good match there. Her abortion position is almost a non-issue to me. She seemed to cut the fat in Alaska. So, that is good.

Anyway, at this moment in time,(I don't know everything about her), I like her more than McCain, or Biden. Also since she isn't running for president the inexperience is not as big a deal as it is for Obama, unless McCain dies in the first couple of weeks. Also, philosphy  is what is lacking in washington more than experience anyway. I don't gravitate towards Obama's philosophy of more government programs(social services). So, I'll keep looking at Palin. I won't be voting for McCain(because of his view on war), regardless , or Obama. But unless I find some really bad stuff about Palin, she pulls the ticket above Obama, simply for the fact that McCain might die after a year or two leaving the possibility of a non-socialist in charge. If she's not war crazy, and terrorist paranoid,  that'll be good.

Anyway, preliminary, unthorough look over, I like her for now, that can change in a second though. The police man getting removed doesn't bother at this moment, as that will thoroughly be looked into before the election, if the guy did taser his kid and was drunk on duty, I'd be glad he was removed.

Anyone have any bad facts about her? Or nefarious ambitions that she's admitted to. At this point with all the others in the race being downright bad, she's looking like the best of the 4! Imagine that.

It's been answered many times on various threads.  Not agreeing to the answer, or not accepting it, does not mean people have not made good faith efforts to answer it.  When it keeps getting asked it starts to get ignored because it is clear that the question is only intended to provoke, not create dialogue.

celt,
In their minds, the fact Obama has been vetted since he beat Clinton, gives him far more "Presidential experience" than Palin.

You'll never get an Obamamaniac to admit the guy is all charisma, with no REAL experience, or substance...Until Hillary runs in 2012, and then it will be Ba-who?
