If true I love the bit about being a member of  the Alaska Independence Party that voted on whether the state should secede from the Union...Outstanding pick!!!

Imagine what the Republicans would do with this info if it were a democratic candidate.

Some Republicans are getting really worried: what will they do if more stuff DOES come out because the vetting process was done in such haste? The ultra conservatives will give Palin a hero's welcome when she addresses the convention, but this would make it seriously hard for McCain to pull the plug should he need to... it's like a soap opera, only better. 'Coz it's weal.

Come on!  Palin's just joining the struggle to free Alaska from the cruel jackboot of oppressive American rule.  Alaska First, Alaska Always?  Maybe McCain should have "asked 'er" first?

One thing's clear though, Obama chose a running mate to help him govern while McCain chose one to help him win - and he chose badly at that.

A lot of journalists envy Woodward and Bernstein for bringing down a sitting POTUS. A lot of them would settle for bringing down a candidate for VPOTUS and Governor Palin looks like low hanging fruit to me. The brother in law issue and the judgement issues surrounding the birth of her son both look to be enough to get the job done.

Well, it was this or watch Kathie Lee Gifford decorate cupcakes on Today.

I must say, I'm really not all that rattled by any of the current skeletons
being unearthed in the current "Cluck and Muck" political satire being
force fed the masses. They're just not the issues which move me. None
of the gargage thrown out there about Obama has swayed me either.

I'm more pissed that the word "vetting" had escaped my knowledge.

No one should take my vote for granted, no one.

Except maybe Kathie Lee, when it comes to decorating cupcakes.

Call me crazy (yeah, I know, several of ya already do!) but what I saw of Mz Palin's family history in that particular article gave me MORE reasons to like the idea of her being in office rather than Fewer reasons.

Oooooooh - her hubby got a DUI 20+ years ago.  Whoopie.  One of the best known democrats in this country Killed Someone while drunk driving rather than Just having a spouce that got a dui in the distant past - Mr Palin's former ticket doesn't exactly phase me compared to .. oh... Chappaquiddic.

Oooooooh - her daughter is pregnant and getting married.  So what - how many of US - regardless of our political leanings - can say we've never had a family member do something that we would have prefered they not do?  How many of US have a perfectly clean slate?  How many of US have children that we love and support their decisions even when they might be making what we consider the Wrong decision?

Oooooooh - she was a member of a group that promoted doing something through legal means that isn't exactly Popular with our national government.  I think it shows a lot of character - and even greater Potential - to openly stand for something that has, and probably will be again in the future, met by violence and death at the hands of that same government.

Ms Palin - like the rest of us - like Every Politician Out There regardless of party affiliations - is Human and has a Human Family.  Maybe with some of the "skeletons" that are coming out about her, things that so many of us face in Normal Life, she'll actually have a clue about the rest of us.  (Though perhaps That part is wishfully thinking and praying in vain.)

Personally I figure the best case scenario goes something like this... McCain keeps Palin as his running mate and wins the election in November - then get promptly assassinated sometime in, oh, say February or early March, and Palin takes over the Big Chair.

It's not about Palin as a person: it's about her party's haste in appointing her as the vice-president nominee. The political infighting within the GOP is of great relevance in this election: so yeah, we're going to talk about Palin and the way she was 'chosen' over others.

My problem with this is her support for abstinence only education in public schools. It clearly didn't work in her own family and it is reasonable that personal experience should influence this sort of political position. That it hasn't causes me to doubt her character and ability to learn from experience. Both qualities I feel are vital to someone who may one day be president.

This has become the ugly side of American politics, and the more it happens the less effect it has IMO. Attacking this VP choice before she has even gotten any kind of footing in this race seems likely to backfire. I wouldn't recommend the R's go after Biden just yet either or it will backfire too. How cynical do people have to be to want to introduce this much drama about someone before we even know if she's going to have any real importance in the final outcome anyway. Edwards and Cheney certainly did very little for their running mate last time around.

Seeing this makes me dread the day when a member of this lifestyle decides to run for national political office and CM ends up spread all over the blogosphere and mainstream media. How many of you will even have your pics on your profile then, knowing about all the curious onlookers who don't have any idea what this lifestyle is about judging the people they see with profiles here?

Didn't Obama Mama do the same thing? She got knocked up and married her baby Daddy. Who then divorced her, so she dumped baby on Granny, and disappeared.

If anything needs to be vetted, I'd say find out why Obama Mama bailed on him.

I say have both. Teach birth control but also stress the importance of waiting until the time is right. Instead the Dems just want to put a giant bowl of condoms in the cafeteria with a big sign that says, "Take One."

I personally am not attacking a VP candidate...but facts are facts. IF... and I say if... she was a member of the Alaska Independence Party  then she should never have been selected as VP... And if it is true then  this reflects badly on McCain's competence and ability to make good decisions.

Forget about all the old drunk driving charges and pregnant daughters but...run a search on the Alaska Independence Party , check out their ideology, and see if you think she should be a potential president of the United States.
