Would the question be asked of a man in the VP slot with 5 kids? Was it asked of Biden when he told the story about how his selfless service to the country motivated him to continue in the Senate after his wife died tragicly leaving him a single parent?

The answer is No it would never be asked of a man.
Was it asked of JFK when he was running for office?

BTW Who said Mr Palin is going to continue with his current job if his wife wins the office of VP?
I don't think they will need the extra income from his job. So is it not sexist to expect that Michell will pick up the slack as the childcare giver while expecting that Todd will not also set aside his job and pick up the slack?

- at the same time, there was something reminiscent of the ex Soviet Union in the whole affair. Probably because it was all scripted, with no spontaneity whatsoever.

Like the DNC and Barack's speech isn;t scripted?

Course they are: but at least, they're good actors, and they can move a crowd  . This show was stiff as a freshly embalmed corpse.

Again: these are my observations.

As to the speech, She proved she could be McCain's attack dog without a doubt.
She showed herself equal to Biden's ability to fill that role. (I watched both speeches)

This was a rally for the faithful followers, it was supposed to do a couple things
1. Toss the red meat out to the crowd (No doubt she delivered the barbs with excellent timing and a smile)
2. Show the republicans why she deserves the shot. ( I'd say she accomplished that as well)

Now the question of what part of the vast middle did she sway? She's not going to pull enough liberal women to shift anything.
She might with her very populist small town girl done well image have swayed some of the middle ground folks her way.

The speech did a good job of putting the Obama/ Biden in the elietist box.
It did a good job of shifting and keeping the comparison on experience between Obama and Palin. which at some point is going to be turned into If Obama has a tough time comparing to Palin how can he hope to compare to McCain. (mark the words and watch for that turn in tactic)

i agree with you TheHeretic!  there is nothing for Sarah & her family to be ashamed of!  i had my first child when i was 17 years old and now she is 29years old happily married, 3 children and a fulltime student in college.  i am proud of her and i like to take some of the credit for her being such a strong woman!

Yeah Chia the Hockey mom line was great, and in truth she did a great job delivering a great speech.

Why thank you for that mike, but really, having to load the family into the car and
back up a couple of miles to try and find that sign we all missed because it was
covered up by the prickly awaiting approval bush is nothing short of a drag.
Behave yourself, try to get along, take Mod 11 seriously and we'll at least tie
you to the bumper and bring you back to the village. Everyone back in the car,
and don't drip that ice cream on my seats. And Scooter, quit poking mike.

I thought Palin's speach certainly fired up the Republicans, but it was not really "her" speach since it was written by others and adapted to her after she was picked as McCain's VP.

And Joe Biden wrote his???

Exactly where did I say he did?

To be fair, you didn't.  But if Joe Biden didn't write his, if Obama didn't write his, the criticism falls flat for total lack of relevance.

Here is the difference:  Nancy Polosi's youngest child was a senior in high school before she decided to run for congress in 1987.  Sarah Palin's youngest is an infant with special needs.  The oldest is barely out of high school.  And her husband works at least part time on the North Slope and won't be available at least part of the time to help with them.

Sorry but you wont win this arguement. Say this and it is going to be percieved as sexist to the core.

See it how you want, but it is simple fact.  Check it out.  Exactly what is sexist about facts?

So, to summarize, Democrats believe a woman can run for elective office only after the kids are raised and the "mommy" job is done.

Interesting.

Given their emphasis on gender equality, do Democrats also say that men should run for elective office only  after the kids are raised and the "daddy" job is done?

When the Democrats have to go around pointedly reminding each other of this, you know they have to be nervous.

I thought it was an okay speech, though full of political rhetoric and nothing at all inspiring. I was still rather impressed with her as a public speaker. The former republican I live with, that is looking for a reason to stop being disgusted with the parties choices was not impressed AT ALL. I believe he likened them to a few comic book characters.

My favourite part was the blip that was not supposed to be seen. When Mike Murphy, Peggy Noonan (former Reagan speech writer) and Chuck Todd, were caught in a candid conversation about how screwed the republicans are. Saying "it's over." and what an insult Palin was, things like that.

I just love when you get past the canned crap and find out what they are really thinking.

That's not quite as good as the things that Biden and Hillary & Co. said publicly about Obama though. Things like, all he's got to his credit is two books and a speech, he's not ready to lead, etc.

I don't know, I don't give much credit at all to anyone when they are running against another person, as far as critisizing the opposing candidates. It was one of my biggest issues with Hillary and Co. As we have seen, even on here, people will say just about anything even if it is a warped truth at best, to discredit their opponent.

Let's face it, republican, democrat, independent or wacko party from outer space...........they are all ME oriented politicians first and foremost. Saying whatever suits their personal agenda at the time.

Everytime a politician falls back on attacking an opponent as a way of promoting themself, I begin to lose interest in them. So far, Obama himself (cannot say it for some of his buddies) has appeared to have tried to take the high road for the most part. That in and of itself says alot. Either he is very very savy and aware of feelings like mine, or he is just that good.

Time will tell.

The reality is, whomever ends up in office will struggle. Their ideology will crash up against reality. I am not worried, either way I will survive. How this country survives, will we end up like Rome? Is that our fate?

Governor Palin did a fine job to a packed house of Republicans...
She did show an ability to speak and did so better than I expected, good show but, like all of these speeches Democrat or Republican it's the easiest crowd they will face.
I was bored by Romney, Can't stand Rudy and unbelievably happy that McCain didn't choose Huckabee as V.P. Huckabee is just too hard to dislike and quite bright. I can't imagine why McCain didn't pick him as V.P. aside from the "splash" that Governor Palin makes. Huckabee has both the ability and likability that I would worry about as an Obama supporter. Strctly one Democrat's opinion.

While I liked the Obama digs, well deserved IMO, over all, it was long on rhetoric, short on actual policy. Other than energy dependance, she really didn't talk about what they plan to do.

Thank you rob!
Other than energy, and the Obama digs, I did not hear much talk about what

they plan to do, either.
Can you say, 4 more years of the same/similar shit we have now?

The VP doesn't make policy.

Firm

What does the VP do?

(by the way, this is what Palin said when questioned a few months ago whether she was interested in the job)

I thought it was 4 weeks ago when she was on CNBC with Larry Kudlow. lol

YAY. Hockey mom with no experience as leader of the free world! Go Team! buhahahaha

As for the speech, it was Romper Room. Rhetoric with little substance pandering to the lowest common denominator. Notice how it seemed to be mostly trying to take shots at Obama and very little about the real issues.
Obama covered and addressed the real issues in his speech.
